Well, it’s time to bring our Thrifty Treasures party to a close, once again. I’m so glad you all have enjoyed it and have learned to get out there and look for the bargains. I hope to be at it again one of these days and miss the thrill of the hunt.

Don’t forget yardsales are a great source for used books! Today is My Someday got hers 4 for $1! That’s a deal for vintage books like this.

I have an Italian reader, Worldwide Mom, who scored an awesome little chair at the Goodwill and made it over. I love chair makeovers so much, I had to share this one.

All About Vignettes found a steal of a deal on a Dorothy Draper-esque chest at a resale store for $19.80. Pretty!

Laura at B & B’s Nest shared her unbelievable trash pick curbside find of a buffet. It’s gorge and she is going to paint it white. Lucky girl!

Design Pardeux recovered this vintage chair in some fun fabric! Love this one.

Old ironstone from an estate sale in Charleston, found by Junkin 4 Joy! So pretty.

More Thrifty Treasures

Just a reminder that next week will be our LAST Thrifty Treasures party of the year! It’s been fun, but time to take a break.

It has been an exciting week, working on the HGTV pilot show behind the scenes with my friends, Layla and Keviin, with The Lettered Cottage. Wow, is it a lot of hard work to get a room camera-ready in about 4 days. There were plenty of volunteers who came out to sew, paint, strip wallpaper, and be handy women and men. It was a fun collaborative project and I was happy to be there. I’ll share more on that soon, although I will NOT be able to share the finished room with y’all! I know, bummer! But, that is TV for you.

Everyday Lovely found a pretty vintage green suitcase at the thriftstore. Now, this made me chuckle, as the 60′s and 70′s are becoming more and more vintage. I had an orange set of luggage from the 70′s that was very similar to this one, right down to the little mirror inside. It’s probably floating around a thriftstore somewhere and had 3 pieces to it.

Collect Jadite? Did you know there are fakes out there? Willow & Paisley gives the low-down on how to spot a fake.

Janet from The Empty Nest, found a jackpot of a deal on blue vintage Ball jars. These were $1 each, what a score that was!

Take a look at this $10 chair find from Rhonda. I’m a sucker for a cute chair!

My 1929 Charmer scored a $100 buffet from the 30′s at Salvation Army and decided to paint her white. I think that was a wise decision, don’t you?

Stacey from Embracing Change got the deal of a century with this probably1930′s set of dining room furniture off Freecyle for FREE! Did you hear that? A table and 4 chairs, buffet and china cabinet, all for free. You can’t beat that!

Find out how Penny for Penny painted a $20 estate sale chair with fabric paint. Instead of tackling reupholstery, she painted her chair! Did you know there is fabric medium that can be mixed with paint and you can paint fabric? Now you do! I love how this turned out.

I just love original artwork scored on the cheap. Houseography found a $2.95 beauty at Goodwill. Love it!

Project Queen found a beautiful table and 4 chairs for $150 thrifting and repainted in chalk paint in that beautiful turquoise shade. Lovely!

September 11: Thrifty Treasures Revisited

Today is a sad day in our country’s history. Where were you on September 11, 2001? I was working that day at a company here in Atlanta. I still remember the horror and sadness that we all felt that day as we watched online, helpless to do anything to stop the absolute unbelievable scenes we were watching. I couldn’t let today pass without mentioning this monumental day. Remembering the past.

Now, here are some highlights from last week’s party.

New blogger, Julia from Black Tag Diaries, and who is also a friend of my niece, Lauren, has gotten the thrifting bug and scored a $3 nightstand, which she promptly painted with Oops paint for $2.50. Bargains all around and a lovely transformation! Can I just say that I’m so proud of you younger girls who are decorating your homes using recycled items. That thrills me to pieces!

Salmagundi was out looking for rusty gold at the salvage yard and found this really cool piece for $5. What can you do with something like this? Hang it on the wall? Make a mirror out of it! Lots of possibilities.

A beautiful painted piece always grabs me! Cath Grace looked in a thriftstore to find an affordable dresser to paint for her daughter’s room. She had an inspiration piece in mind and pulled this one off for a fraction of the price.

See, another painted piece, only this one is going to be changed. House Pour found this one at the local Restore, but it needs a fresh coat of paint, even though this electric blue is quite the eye catcher.

Mimi in the Middle of Nowhere scored a pretty white tureen at the thriftstore for less than $4.99 after her discount. Love some white dishes!

What a beauty of a vintage globe that Whisperwood Cottage found at a yardsale. Lovely piece!

Homeschooling Mom, Amber June, found a totally cool kitchen shelving thingy on her free curbside pick up day. She repurposed in into a home schooling storage space. Very sweet!

Check out these retro (from the 70′s) brass owls for $2 at a yardsale that Castles and Carriages picked up. See how those trends pop up again?

Labor Day Weekend Thrifty Treasures

Happy Labor Day to all of you! I hope you are doing something fun with family and friends. I didn’t go anywhere this weekend, but did spend some time with friends. Went to a high school football game on Friday night. That’s a good all-American thing to do on the weekend, but it was still hot as blazes!

By the way, just a heads up that I’m going to continue the Thrifty Treasures party through the end of September for this year and then we’ll take a break. Time to get geared up for Fall, Thanksgiving and the whole Holiday season!

When we all met up for the I Love Thrifting party in July, we talked about meeting up and going to Scott Antiques market in September. Well, September is here, so if any of you who were with us still want to go or anyone else in the area, let’s plan an outing on Saturday, Sept. 10th. Janet, from The Empty Nest found a beautiful copper teapot out thrifting.

Glenda at Magnolia Bend Drive scored this fab mid-century modern dresser which she promptly passed on. For only $20, I’d say that is a bargain.

Hum, Now What scored a great deal on this antique Victorian bed, for only $99! That was a steal for this all wood beauty.

I love this cane bed that Nancy from Simply Chic Treasures found for a measly $1!! Yep, you read that right.

Who can resist jadite? Second Hand with Style has found some treasures again, with this beauty from the flea market.

Denise with Pink Postcard found an old chest of drawers that she repainted and totally updated. Got any ideas for those old pieces sitting around? These are all over the place!

Angela and Debbie rescued this old piece from the curb and gave her new life with a coat of paint and some French words. Ooo-la-la!

Check out this blue velvet beauty that Penny for Penny found for only $12! Wow, lots of possibilities for this one.

Urban Cottage Decor found this pretty old vintage suitcase at an estate sale. Love the color!

End of August Thrifty Treasures

I’m back from a fun weekend in the NC mountains and I will share all of that fun later, but here are some highlights from last week’s party.

Mid-century set of flatware from Tatter and Fray that was scored for $2! What a find that was.

Being Brook scored a $20 Goodwill desk that she painted blue for her son’s room. Cute!

I love Amanda’s genius idea of taking a HUGE thriftstore frame, ordering a family print to fit the old pic inside and using the old mat, now she has a BIG framed family print over her fireplace. For under $20! That’s my kind of bargain.

Parsimonia found these vintage Pyrex bowls out thrifting. These are SO pretty!

Debbie has a great collection of thrifted blue and white pieces. Love it!

More Thrifty Treasures August

Hi, ya’ll! Hope you are having a great Sunday. It’s still hot here. Yep, we’ve got a few weeks before the heat of summer starts to make an exit for the year and I am excited about that. The first chill of Fall in the air makes me giddy. I don’t mind a sweatshirt or long sleeves on my walk in the mornings, just give me some cooler weather.

Y’all are finding some wonderful treasures out there this summer. I pass yardsale signs all the time, but for the most part have resisted dropping by. I simply have too many things already and don’t need to find a place for one more thing.

Please remember that this party is for 2nd hand finds. Not great deals at stores! If you are sharing a Before and After on something you’ve done make sure it was done with a 2nd hand find. Otherwise it will probably get deleted.

Here are some of my faves from last week’s party!

I love a good dresser makeover and Pleased as Punch stole this one for $5! Yep, a measly $5. She had to do some repairs and painting, but wow, is it gorge now!

On the hunt for a banker’s chair, Don’t Disturb this Groove, was rewarded for her patience by scoring this vintage beauty for $20 at a thriftstore. Too cute!

I love it when you all think outside the box! DIY Newlyweds found this vintage coastal inspired fabric for 25 cents at a yardsale and turned it into a pillow. Now, THAT I love!

Campaign furniture is all the rage and Wildwod Creek found this lovely piece on that list that Craig does! Great place to score. She showed before and after pics and painted it a beautiful shade of blue. So pretty!

Look at this Empire table that Fab Rehab Creations found at the Goodwill for $6.00! $6 people!! This is such a classic style. My dining room table is an Empire reproduction and I adore the base on this style. She did paint it black and it turned out really pretty. What a find! I would have grabbed it too.

House of Hawthornes was on the hunt for a vintage croquet set and finally found one! Love this one. We had a similar set growing up and loved playing croquet in the backyard. Did you do that too?

Shopping thriftstores and estate sales, Tatter and Fray, couldn’t pass up these 2 lamp beauties. Mid-century lovelies at their finest! I can see some grand drum shades on these. I’m a lamp girl myself and can hardly pass up a pretty one!

Look a the redo on this old $10 telephone table! Really cute, A Turtle’s Life! Mod podged paper, paint and fabric totally transformed this one.

Another Thrifty Treasures

Hope you are all having a good week! I’m still recovering from my travels but did fit in a visit to Scott’s Antiques market this week, which I’ll share later. I know you all love to see what is out there.

Here’s what caught my eye from last week’s party! You are all finding some great things, you will love all of these today.

Check out the thriftstore coffee table that Amanda found! She repainted it and now it looks like a million bucks. She paid $60, more than she wanted to, but I think it was well worth it. Way to go, Amanda!

Being Brook took a plain little $3 stool and houndstoothed it all up! Cute, cute, it could be a Bama football fan now.

CircaDee scored this beautiful vintage industrial turquoise office chair at a church sale. How cool is that? I’ve had good luck at those church sales too.

Taryn from Design, Dining and Diapers found the most amazing deal at the Goodwill. Both chairs for $1.30, now THAT is a steal! With a little sprucing up, these will have a lot of life left in them.

DIY Home Staging Tips grabbed this steal of a deal set of lamps at Salvation army for $2.89 each and gives a wonderful tutorial on how she painted them. Marble bases, great looking classic lamps. This is the before, you can see the Afters at her blog. I have my own marble base lamp that I redid too and still love!

Look at the score on this silverplate that Everyday Lovely found at a yardsale. $9 for all of this. I would have grabbed it too!

If I ever found glass fishing floats at a yardsale or estate sale, I would snap them up too. B3 Home Designs scored these at an estate sale. Love them!

Home is Where Her Shoes are found this beautiful buffet on Craigslist for $30 and gave it a complete makeover. You can see the Before and Afters on her blog. Gorgeous!

What’s cuter than a vintage red step stool? Parsimonia didn’t pass this one up!

These old vintage Thermos bottles are so heart-warming. Do you remember this plaid like I do? A Daily Cup of Mrs. Olson found these for $3.99 at the thriftstore. So cute!

August Thrifty Treasures

By the time you will be reading this post, I’ll have landed back in Georgia from my whirlwind trip to CA. I’m sure I’ll be exhausted for a couple of days, but while I’m getting my body back on Georgia time, I have to scream the news!

I WON THE KNORR 4 COOK-OFF!!

Woooo to the Hooooo, this girl is so excited about the opportunity to represent Knorr in this very fun contest. Myself and 3 others were chosen in the final round to be ambassadors for Knorr, so you will be seeing and hearing more about their products around here in the coming months.

One of the judges and celebrity world-renowned Chef, Marco Pierre White from England told me that he loved my dish and what a good choice it was for me to present. Talk about excited. I was! The first thing I did was call my mom to tell her that HER recipe won. She was so excited too, so this is a family victory.

I have SO much to share and as soon as I can do that, i certainly will!

In the meantime, let’s look at some of the fab finds from last week’s par-tay!

Talk about a steal! Kiwi in Texas scored big time on this Bernhardt sofa from Craigslist for $80. I love the lines. Bernhardt is a great brand, I have one myself.

For just $10, Cleverly Inspired scored this cute little side table. It had seen better days, so she opted to paint it and it really turned out nice.

I’ve always had a thing for chairs and I see that Lovely, Etc. does too. She picked up these 3 strays at the thriftstore and aren’t they cute?

Wow, does this old Royal bring back some memories! We had one of these growing up in my family, just like this. House of Hawthornes found this one at an estate sale and it was made in 1925. Raise your hand if you learned to type on a manual typewriter. My hand is high in the air!!

You’ll have to click over to 4 The Love of Wood to see how this dresser got a facelift with repurposed legs. Talk about reinventing, this piece got the treatment.

Our Lake Life searched on Ebay for the perfect treasure to spray paint this glorious shade of blue. Loving that pop of color!

For a mere $35, A Big Story, picked up this beautiful set of silverplate serving pieces. Beautiful on a sideboard.

Summer Treasures Party

It’s another week of thrifty treasures and here are a few of the highlights from last week.

Please girls, if you have already shared a link at a previous party, do not share it again! I see links/pics come through that make me go hummmm, didn’t I already see this pic? If I think it’s already been shared then that compels me to go back to an old party 2 or 3 weeks back and see. Sure enough, if it has been shared, I will delete it. Don’t make me have to do all that work!

Nostalgia and cookie jars! Nothin’ better. The Blest Nest was cleaning out her mom’s house and found this pretty old jar. I don’t blame her for keeping it either.

The Hill Hangout scored this nifty old dresser from the thriftstore for $75 and really personalized it with some bright orange paint. Talk about giving it new life, this will do it. I’m loving the new trend of painting old wood with a pop of bright color to infuse some energy into a room. These old 70′s pieces are great candidates for that look!

Now here’s an amazing find from Made by Meg! This Maitland-Smith desk (very high-end furniture manufacturer) was found for $300 at a resale shop. What a fine looking desk this is and there is no telling how much it cost retail when it was new.

Mary, the Retired Nester, found this chair sitting on the side of the road. Hello! What a beauty she is now with a fresh coat of paint and new fabric. I love these old Empire style chairs.

Look what Betsy from Coastal Colors did with that oh-so-cute stool we found thrifting at the I Love Thrifting party a few weeks ago. I love it! She stenciled on the top and painted the legs creamy white. I’m so glad she found a way to keep the top, it really had a nice patina.

Now, it is beautiful!

Check out what Taking a Sunday Drive found at a yardsale for $2! It was plain brown wood, not very appealing, but after painting it a coat of creamy white paint and adding that bright coral fabric, how perfect is it against the teal walls now? Yes, perfection.

Selep Imaging collects pretty colorful bottles and this pic just made me smile! Love old bottles and all the colors they come in.

For a mere $15, Stacey from Embracing Change scored this beautiful blue dresser in need of a makeover. I’m sure she has big plans for it!

Happy Sunday!

Summer’s heating up and before long I’ll be wishing for cooler weather. OK, so I already do. As much as I love the summer months, the heat wilts me by August and I can’t wait for some crisp Fall weather.

Here are a few thrifty finds last week that caught my eye.

A Bit of Beck scored this nice large desk at a yardsale for $50 and already snazzed it up with a new coat of paint. There are plenty of treasures to be had out there!

Beth from Alabama, found 2 pretty Steubenville vintage leaf plates for $3.00 each. I love these, so nice to have around.

Brand new blogger, Butet from A Charming Home, shared her VERY FIRST post with a thrifty find in this rocking chair she scored and refurbished for $15 from the Salvation Army. Cute and funky too! Welcome to blogging I hope you have fun with it!

Elz from House Pour, found this vintage oak table for $25 and after a lot of sweat equity, turned it into a fab new table to eat on. Love how this turned out. You can see how she did it over at her blog.

Allison at Fab Rehab picked up this sweet vintage sewing machine table for just $5 at a yardsale and turned it into a little show-stopper. Love the pop of pink inside.

Sweet bloggy friend, Lana, who is still living it up in Italy this year, found this GORGE soup tureen for $5 at a church sale. You know I would have bought this too!

Kiwi in Texas scored a $25 Goodwill desk and chair for a fab redo!

Last, but not least, Tracy scored this set of 4 vintage soda crates off Craigslist for $20. What a fun find these are! You never know what you’ll find on Craigslist.
