Thrifty Treasures and a Yardsale

Hello all you fun people!

Hope your weekend’s been good. My little angels showed up on Saturday and we got most of the trim primed in the house, so I will share that next.

In the meantime, I stopped by my friend, Lynn’s yardsale and wow, did she and her buddies have some great stuff. I did not buy a thing, but I sure wanted to. I must wait until I get in my house before I start picking up more. Here are some of the things I saw and passed up. One of the ladies who came and painted with us (Phyllis) hit it too and scored big time.

Lynn thought it would be fun to take a pic of me taking pics at the sale. Lynn family’s house is located off the historic Marietta Square and I got to play docent in their house at last year’s Christmas tour of Elwood.

Elwood is beautiful and Lynn and her family have lived there going on 20 years.

Isn’t Elwood pretty? One of these days, I’ll do a tour of the inside for you.

Today, it was all about the yardsale happening outside. Lynn and a couple of her friends put on a big show with all their treasures. I stopped by as they were getting things set up and could have had my pick of the best things.

I looked at every table.

And they had some great stuff.

Like these 2 cute chairs.

And these two beauties just needed new fabric.

This little table was tempting at $15. I almost caved in and got it.

And this chair, at $10, almost got my attention too. But, then I kept remembering ALL those boxes I have packed away. I have no business bringing home more of anything until I get in the house.

But, you’ll have to agree, it was a GOOD sale! I know it had to be successful, with all of the great stuff there.

Across the street is this pretty Victorian and it’s for sale.

With this big beautiful blooming oakleaf hydrangea, it was picture perfect.

I will definitely be planting some oakleaf hydrangeas at my new house. I love them! Aren’t you glad I took you along on the yardsale? I hurried over to my house for the paint party after checking out the yardsale.

OK, back to thrifty treasures! From last week’s party, here are some highlights!

This adorable pink child’s rocker was found at Brimfeld by Thoroughly Modern Me. I’ve heard so many great things about Brimfield over the years, it has to be fun.

Debbie at Refresh Restyle gave this vanity new life with a pretty paint job.

Drop leaf tables are so versatile and Daisy Mae Belle’s $75 find is a nice one.

I love this bowl, mainly because my mother has one just like it. It’s a Fireking and jadite and holds a lot of memories in our family. Our bowl has held a lot of creamed corn through the years. Second Time Around scored this one.

Rita from This Sorta Old Life shares her story of lessons learned from a thriftstore rug that is very sweet.

As usual, Parsimonia found another treasure, a retro and vivid colored crewel art piece that is current again. Lovely!

These plant stands are just so cute and Mommy is CooCoo found these out thrifting. Love!

Look what Silly Pearl found at a local thriftstore! A chip and dip bowl becomes a succulent planter. How clever!

Town and Country Living scored 2 stools at different times at the flea market and made them her own. Too cute!

Thrifty Treasures Mother’s Day Edition 5-13

Happy Mother’s day to all of you!!

I am spending the day with my sweet mom and entire family on the porch at my sister’s house and we’ll be enjoying some delicious food and time together. My niece, Lauren is home for the weekend and we are so happy to see her.

While I’ve been busy renovating my house, you all have been out hunting down the treasures. One day, I’ll be out there joining you again, but in the meantime, take a look at these goodies, some highlights from last week.

How cheerful is this Pyrex Daisy covered bowl that A Living Space scored out thrifting?

Debra from Bungalow took a yardsale chair and remade it yet again. That’s the fun part about recyling, it can be changed up on a whim.

A $3 Goodwill breadbox gets a thrifty makeover from Finding Secret Treasure. Isn’t this so cute now?

Christina from The Frugal Homemaker almost let this one slip through her fingers. Only $3.03 from Value Village, she managed to go back and snag it before it was too late. Won’t this cutie be adorable with a makeover?

I just love ironstone and so does Keeping it Cozy, who nailed a great deal at a local shop on this beautiful ironstone pitcher from England, for around $16.

Suzan from My Little Nest scored big time on this honest to goodness ironstone, all for $5 from a community yardsale. Be still my jealous heart!

Tatter and Fray took advantage of the 50% off day at her local Goodwill and STOLE this cute creamer/sugar set for 98 cents total. Deal!

I’ve got white pottery on the brain this week. $4.99 deal from Budget Design Girl, yep, I would have picked this up too.

Marie scored these 2 beautiful pitchers for next to nothing at a community yardsale: 50 cents for the red and white one and $1 for the pretty aqua pitcher. Both great finds!

Thrifty Treasures 5-6

Time for another party this week! I saw tons of yardsale signs on Saturday, but I didn’t stop at any. My sister’s neighborhood had a big one and I didn’t even stop by. I know, can you believe that? But really, I’m focused on one thing and that is getting in my house, so yardsales will have to wait. I will thank myself when it comes time to unpack those many boxes that are stored away for me. I have plenty to decorate with!

But, y’all found some fun treasures last week! Let’s take a look at some highlights that caught my eye.

A recycled chandy from Habitat Restore found a new home with At Home by the Bay. Look how good she looks now!

Not sure how much these were, but Circadee, picked up these mod tulip chairs, a set of 4. Groovy throwback to the 70’s, my era.

Courtney reminds us how cheap cute baskets can be at a yardsale. These were 75 cents, what a deal!

A $4.99 desk from Goodwill got a new paint job from Bluebird 1959 and look at her now!

Love these newly painted white bamboo etageres. Spray paint gave them a new lease on life from Junkin Junky. Now they are stylin’ and pretty!

Who can resist a blue Ball canning jar for $7? Not me and not Keeping it Cozy either.

Kelly with Eclectically Vintage scored a whole bunch of treasures for only $20. These are just a few of them!

Kim shows how blue and white is always a classic with this antique mall plate for $12.99. Score!

Marlee found these plastic Adirondack chairs abandoned on the side of the road. Who cares if they are plastic? Again, vivid blue spray paint brought them back to life again.

One More Time found this pretty pottery piece at the thriftstore for only $8. I’ve always been a lover of handmade pottery and this is by a sorta famous artist, she found out. Love that!

Thrifty Treasures 4-29

Back with another Thrifty Treasures feature and y’all found some really cool things out there. I hope to be back on my game again in the Fall, when I might actually need something and can get out to the yardsales again. Until I get in my house, I’m not at all sure I need a whole lot to fill in since I’ve got boxes and boxes all packed up waiting for the move to the new house.

For some reason, dishes and furniture made my list this week, as well as a few other eclectic finds. You just never know what you will find out there in thrifting!

Budget Design Girl found these adorable French style white ceramic farm animals at her local Goodwill for 99 cents each! How cool will these be in her kitchen?

A side table for $6?! Yes, indeed, Kelly scored this one at a sale. It will be the perfect accent piece for a special spot in her house.

A gallery wall of blank frames is a fun way to fill up that empty space. Add a pop of color and it really comes to life. Megan found these at the Goodwill.

Live Love DIY helped her friend makeover this old rocking chair that she already owned. With a modern fabric and fresh paint job, this chair has a lot of life left in it. I love this piece!

Vintage pyrex is always a great find and these old pieces are so nice to have around for leftovers. Sheila from Note Songs scored these pink beauties at her local thriftshop for $2.50 for all. Deal!

Yardsales are the best place to find deals like this. Darlene from Our Creative Life scored 2 of these for $7.50 each. They will be gorgeous when they are remade. I can see a modern fabric on them with no tufting on the back. Hello gorgeous!

Italy, I love Italy! And so does Barb at Grits and Glamour. She was out thrifting and found a whole set of Italian dishes for $135 and later found out that each plate sells for $65. Her bloggy friends enabled her and talked her into going back and buying this set, after she originally passed it up because she didn’t need more dishes. That never stops a blogger, right?! And that’s what friends are for.

She spotted these on a cart at Goodwill and Parsimonia is back with some frugal finds in these Firestone jadite mugs. Always a winner!

A $30 Craigslist vanity gets an Annie Sloan paint wash along with a little golden glimmer from Grandma glam painter, Salvage Collection. Lovely piece!

Thrifty Treasures 4-22

Back again with another Thrifty Treasures for this month! Thank you all who linked up last week with the kick-off of thrifting season this year. It was fun to see what all you found. I’m heading back home today from the SNAP conference in Utah and I’m probably on a plane (exhausted) when this is posted.

There were some great finds last week and these were the ones that jumped out at me!

My friend, Roeshel, scored this $9.99 chandy from the thriftstore and what a neat piece this is. I would have totally picked this up too.

Corbels are so neat to play with and this set is gorgeous. These could be added as an architectural feature in a room. Love them! For the Love of It snagged these for $5 each!

Linda with It All Started with Paint has got a thing for Goodwill shopping and found some great scores for a little bit of money.

A $9 chair from Kirb Appeal gets a fun makeover.

Mel at Junkin Junky stole this cutie-pie hippo planter for $3.03. These animal motif planters are SO hot right now and this one is adorable.

All About Vignettes loves bamboo light fixtures and managed to find more than one that she painted in a fun color. Orange pops!

Horse motifs are so hot right now and this horse bookend from Tatter and Fray is beautiful.

Diane with In My Own Style, picked up a $5.90 side table that she made over. Cute and functional too!

Thrifty Treasures Begins for 2012

Hey, all you thrifty shoppers!

We’re about to start a brand new edition of the Thrifty Treasures party for this year, so if you’ve been chomping at the bit to show off some great finds, now is your chance.

I only have two things to start the party with, but I love this find that I stumbled across down in Destin at the big Goodwill. It was hopping in there the day we stopped by and I spotted 2 of these burlap shades. With the senior discount (oh yeah, I will take that anytime I can get it, now that I’m 55!), it came out at $7.50. It’s a huge shade and I have plans to install it in a hallway or one of the rooms of my new fixer-upper house.

I love it!

You can see how big it is, since it is sitting on this loveseat and takes up half of it. Not sure how I can get it up on a ceiling yet, but I’ll figure that out later.

It was WAY too cool to pass up and the price was right, so home it came with me.

Last Friday, I stopped by a big yardsale on the side of the road and out of all the ~~treasures~~ junk there, I came away with this 50 cent white pottery planter. I love adding plants in these old pottery pieces to sit around on a table. It will get put to good use.

I just love the imperfect finish on these old pottery pieces.

Thrifty Treasures is Coming Back!

Well, it’s time to bring our Thrifty Treasures party to a close, once again. I’m so glad you all have enjoyed it and have learned to get out there and look for the bargains. I hope to be at it again one of these days and miss the thrill of the hunt.

Laura at B & B’s Nest shared her unbelievable trash pick curbside find of a buffet. It’s gorge and she is going to paint it white. Lucky girl!

Design Pardeux recovered this vintage chair in some fun fabric! Love this one.

More Thrifty Treasures

Just a reminder that next week will be our LAST Thrifty Treasures party of the year! It’s been fun, but time to take a break.

It has been an exciting week, working on the HGTV pilot show behind the scenes with my friends, Layla and Keviin, with The Lettered Cottage. Wow, is it a lot of hard work to get a room camera-ready in about 4 days. There were plenty of volunteers who came out to sew, paint, strip wallpaper, and be handy women and men. It was a fun collaborative project and I was happy to be there. I’ll share more on that soon, although I will NOT be able to share the finished room with y’all! I know, bummer! But, that is TV for you.

Everyday Lovely found a pretty vintage green suitcase at the thriftstore. Now, this made me chuckle, as the 60′s and 70′s are becoming more and more vintage. I had an orange set of luggage from the 70′s that was very similar to this one, right down to the little mirror inside. It’s probably floating around a thriftstore somewhere and had 3 pieces to it.

Collect Jadite? Did you know there are fakes out there? Willow & Paisley gives the low-down on how to spot a fake.

Janet from The Empty Nest, found a jackpot of a deal on blue vintage Ball jars. These were $1 each, what a score that was!

Take a look at this $10 chair find from Rhonda. I’m a sucker for a cute chair!

My 1929 Charmer scored a $100 buffet from the 30′s at Salvation Army and decided to paint her white. I think that was a wise decision, don’t you?

Stacey from Embracing Change got the deal of a century with this probably1930′s set of dining room furniture off Freecyle for FREE! Did you hear that? A table and 4 chairs, buffet and china cabinet, all for free. You can’t beat that!

Find out how Penny for Penny painted a $20 estate sale chair with fabric paint. Instead of tackling reupholstery, she painted her chair! Did you know there is fabric medium that can be mixed with paint and you can paint fabric? Now you do! I love how this turned out.

I just love original artwork scored on the cheap. Houseography found a $2.95 beauty at Goodwill. Love it!

Project Queen found a beautiful table and 4 chairs for $150 thrifting and repainted in chalk paint in that beautiful turquoise shade. Lovely!

September 11: Thrifty Treasures Revisited

Today is a sad day in our country’s history. Where were you on September 11, 2001? I was working that day at a company here in Atlanta. I still remember the horror and sadness that we all felt that day as we watched online, helpless to do anything to stop the absolute unbelievable scenes we were watching. I couldn’t let today pass without mentioning this monumental day. Remembering the past.

Now, here are some highlights from last week’s party.

New blogger, Julia from Black Tag Diaries, and who is also a friend of my niece, Lauren, has gotten the thrifting bug and scored a $3 nightstand, which she promptly painted with Oops paint for $2.50. Bargains all around and a lovely transformation! Can I just say that I’m so proud of you younger girls who are decorating your homes using recycled items. That thrills me to pieces!

Salmagundi was out looking for rusty gold at the salvage yard and found this really cool piece for $5. What can you do with something like this? Hang it on the wall? Make a mirror out of it! Lots of possibilities.

A beautiful painted piece always grabs me! Cath Grace looked in a thriftstore to find an affordable dresser to paint for her daughter’s room. She had an inspiration piece in mind and pulled this one off for a fraction of the price.

See, another painted piece, only this one is going to be changed. House Pour found this one at the local Restore, but it needs a fresh coat of paint, even though this electric blue is quite the eye catcher.

Mimi in the Middle of Nowhere scored a pretty white tureen at the thriftstore for less than $4.99 after her discount. Love some white dishes!

What a beauty of a vintage globe that Whisperwood Cottage found at a yardsale. Lovely piece!

Homeschooling Mom, Amber June, found a totally cool kitchen shelving thingy on her free curbside pick up day. She repurposed in into a home schooling storage space. Very sweet!
