You Atlanta girls need to pay BIG attention to this post!

You’re gonna love me for sharing this crazy fun huge shopping spot and I have my friend, Debbie (Miss Lucy’s Monograms)to thank for turning me on to Cash Hotel Furniture Liquidation down south of Atlanta in Forsyth, GA. I grew up going to church camp as a youngster at Indian Springs, GA, so Forsyth is near and dear to my heart. Debbie has a knack for sniffing out bargains just like I do and she found this place. It’s an hour and 1/2 from where we live, but Debbie, our friend, Jen and I headed down there recently early one morning. I had to convince Debbie that it was my duty to share the goods with my readers. She wasn’t so sure we needed to get the word out.

This place is amazing! It’s huge, it’s full of hotel liquidation things, all pieces that you would imagine from a hotel chain. Only we’re not talking Motel 6. No, no, no, we’re talking Caesar’s Palace Atlantic City and the Ritz Carlton Amelia Island. Nice places! Expensive stuff, they don’t do junk at those hotels.

Yeah, not too shabby, huh?

You are going to DIE from excitement when I show you what is in here! Nope, I am not kidding.

You bargain hunters are going to get as excited as I did when I walked in here and took it all in. My excitement could hardly be contained! Bargains, bargains, everywhere bargains.

I tried to take notes on the prices, so a lot of them I captured the pricetags. These were really cute rattan dinette sets, I think they were $99 for the set.

A few things were over $200, but not many. These chairs came from Caesars Palace Atlantic City and if I remember right, were $299 each. Everything else goes DOWN from here in price.

Large round mirror $29. I know, can you stand it? You could paint this any color you want. It’s large too, not small.

I can’t read this pricetag, but I think it was under $100 for this pretty cabinet.

You can see this leather chair was $159 and the pillow $10. I was walking around with my mouth gaped open. Even if you don’t like the fabrics, it might be worth recovering. Hotels freshen up their rooms and lobbies and this place buys them out and recycles them. I love the concept!!

$199 for this pretty wingchair. A lot of the upholstery is still in decent shape if you find a fabric you like. Some needed a bit of cleaning. Debbie has bought a few chairs and lots of other things here already.

Check out these brass lamps with the plugs in the base. Now that could come in handy for plugging in electronics on a side table.

Desk and chair, I think both were about $100 something total. Really good prices.

Ritz Carlton Amelia Island drapes, $19 each. Now, I know these colors are NOT the height of fashion, but you just might find something for the price.

They are hanging and stacked in the back of the store. My mouth was still hanging open even after an hour of walking around snapping pics.

These cornice boards were $5 each! You could easily recover the boards, love that thick cording.

Debbie bought one of these when she went earlier, $79 for this gorgeous black and gold side table. I love these! They would be great as nightstands in a bedroom.

Tons of lamp bases for $1 and $5. What are the possibilities on this table?

$10 for these ceramic bases. Oh how fun would these be too. You could always spray paint them, don’t forget that.

Wall sconces, $1. One measly dollar!!! I can’t stand it.

Pretty French style sconce, $10. You can bet I’ll be heading back here when I get a house. OH yeah!

Cute Jen bought one of those white and turquoise side tables, $19. There were 2 different feet to choose from. She got the turned feet, Debbie got the bun feet.

This pretty piece was $199. Biedermier anyone?!

So after 2 hours of wandering around, it was time to get that stuff to the SUV. Jen’s SUV. I did not think they would get all of it in there, but those loading guys surprised me.

Here’s part of it.

The guys worked diligently on packing that SUV like a puzzle and got every single thing in there. I was shocked!

2 chairs, ottoman, 3 side tables, 4 lamps, and misc. stuff. It was crazy and exhilarating.

There was just enough room for Debbie to sit here.

Packed to the gills, but we made it. I totally did not think they would get it all packed in the SUV, but everything made it home with those girls. And no, I didn’t buy a thing, but had a ball looking at all those goodies. You can bet your grocery money that I’ll be heading back down there.

It’s a treasure trove and the guy that runs the place told me that many designers come in here. Yeah, I can see why!!

I know all you Atlanta girls are going to be heading down to check it out. It’s right off I-75, you can see it from the interstate, exit in Forsyth, GA. Forsyth is between Atlanta and Macon. Debbie had been telling me all about it and I am so glad I got to see it in person. It’s fantastic and as you can see, the prices ROCK!!

Tobacco Barn and Oddfellows

This is my last post from our girl’s weekend in Asheville, but wanted to share more fun shopping spots in that area.

We took a quick stroll through the Tobacco Barn in Asheville once again and it is still a fun place to hang out and browse.

It’s a big warehouse crammed full of STUFF.

This corner white cabinet was a nice find.

This is a quirky way to use an old door, along with some vintage metal chairs.

Plenty of old hardware.

Loved this sweet ottoman. I think it was about $200.

If you are in the market for sets of chairs, you can find plenty here. Those needlepoint beauties were about $600 for the set, I think.

This booth had the best deals, we thought, with everything $99 or less. Spot any you’d like to take home?

Loved this old blue and white cabinet. Wouldn’t this look cute in a kitchen? I didn’t catch the price.

Just down the road from Tobacco Barn, is another antiques row, with several stores.

We enjoyed browsing Oddfellows too.

If you grew up in the 70’s, you just might recognize things in this room. Oh, how 70’s it is! I’m not quite ready to revisit the 70’s, myself. Too many hideous memories for me.

Like these! So, this color is right back in style again, with Pantone’s color of the year, Tangerine Tango. Like I said, I’m not a huge fan of orange, but the old orange of the 70’s would be right back on trend right now. {Me, screaming and covering my eyes!} My sister and I are painting her craft table/chairs orange, but hopefully it won’t scream 70′s and in her space it will be lively.

Now, these seltzer bottles, I could learn to love.

How about an old ship’s head, she is pretty cool.

Raise your hand if you grew up with an old record player console like this? Yep, we did too. My parents had one of these in our living room, with old albums stacked to one side. I still have fond memories of listening to an old album of Andy Griffith, telling stories. We should have kept that album. It was priceless! One of the best stories, What it Was Was Football. Anyone remember that album??

Another blast from the past, 70’s. Did anyone else’s mom have these? Acrylic grapes on the coffee table. My mom had these and a lady in our church used to make them. I spotted a few of them in Oddfellows. Anyone care to bring these back? Nah, me neither!

How about a concrete horses head? I actually loved him, but he was $125.

This chaise lounge was pretty covered in a sea-inspired fabric. In fact, I spotted fabrics like this at one of our local fabric stores. That’s another post!

Kristin fell in love with this vintage French sofa and at only $20 would have been another steal. Yet another reason we needed a truck.

We didn’t bring home any large treasures, but we sure had fun on our girl’s weekend, shopping, eating and browsing.

The Screen Door: Thrifting in Asheville, NC

Back to Asheville, it was a great time to revisit The Screen Door and Tobacco Barn, as well as a few other thrifty stops along the way. We hit some thriftstores and those were where we found some super slamming deals. But, how to get them home?! My friends, Kristin and Tracey, had to give them up, when they just couldn’t find an affordable and easy way to transport them back to Atlanta.

That’s when you gotta wish you had a truck! I have wished that a few times myself. I do have a Dad with a truck, so that helps too if I find something close to home.

I took you all to the Screen Door last August, when a group of bloggers went to the Cottage with Angela and we all went out shopping. It’s a great place to browse for goodies.

Old doors and plenty of vintage things are found at the Screen door.

While browsing in Screen Door, I met up with a reader who stopped and introduced herself. I love when that happens! If you ever see me out somewhere, please come and say hello! It was great to meet Diane with Cottages Wishes.

This was a pretty shabby chic booth and it looks like they might be using chalk paint on these pieces.

Tracey bought this big glass float for $28, not a bad price for a large one. After I showed her my post about ripping the carpet off stairs, she went home and ripped her’s all off in a couple of days. I took before pics and when she gets them all painted up, I’ll show you. She had perfect stair treads underneath for painting. She is so excited to get that done. I’ll do a little photoshoot on her pretty house in Woodstock and show you what she did with the glass float.

Just down from the Screen Door was a thriftstore and I can’t remember the name, but if you are there, you will find it. Here’s where we found the deal of the century. We walked by this beautiful huge chest of drawers. I opened the top drawer and lo and behold, it is stamped Ernest Hemingway by Thomasville. OH MY Goodness! The top is marble (or a marble composite). Check out those pretty lion’s paw silver feet and the hardware. Sticker price: $40. Tracey was really, really interested in getting it, so we went up to the counter and then about fell over when the lady told us it had come from an estate sale and she had to get it out.

All furniture that day was 1/2 price!!

$20!!!

What a sinking feeling to know that it’s going to be almost impossible to get it home. And although we tried to brainstorm all sorts of options, we just couldn’t come up with a viable one that would justify the bargain it was. So, we left it for someone else to take home.

I know!! The one that got away. It was a little beat up, but could have probably been touched up with stain or would have looked great painted with chalk paint too.

Kristin spotted this retro bamboo table and chairs that she dearly wanted to haul home. It would have been $32 that day! She wanted to paint it a poppy bright color.

We stopped for lunch at Tupelo Honey Cafe and it was out of this world. Tracey had heard about it and I’m so glad we looked it up. There is one downtown and one about 5 miles out, so we drove by both and after seeing the long line at the downtown cafe, we chose the other one.

They bring out homemade biscuits and blackberry jam for the appetizer. Oh my gosh, was it good!

I ordered a delish chicken breast sandwich with sweet potato fries and it was lip-smacking good.

That was part of our thrifting time and I’ve got more to share too! I know you all love these adventures as much as we do.

Last weekend, Mr. Goodwill Hunting, Rashon, was in town for a thrifting event at B & R Thriftstore in Sandy Springs. I stopped by for awhile to check it out and see Rashon again. He has recently announced the 2012 I Love Thrifting event for next year, which I plan to be a part of again. We had a lot of fun at this year’s I Love Thrifting event, so you will want to get it on it next year. Put July 7th on your calendar!

So, while I was there, I had to look around to see some thrifty possibilities. This pair of blue and white lamps are pretty sweet.

Here’s another lamp all set for the coastal look, filled with shells.

Three more possibilities, all of these could easily be changed up with color.

One shopper was looking at comforters and I pointed out this Ralph Lauren king for a mere $12.50. It was in great shape with a small tear on one corner that could easily be fixed. She snapped it up!

I also spotted these 2 like-new down pillows for $8 something each. She snapped those up too.

In the furniture section, these small wingbacks just need some new fabric to be brought back to life. Can you envision it?

Take off this dowdy skirt and they would be very modern with the right fabric.

This pink pair also has a nice shape and recovering them would work as well. I don’t remember how much they all were, but I think less than $40 each.

A fresh coat of paint on this TV cabinet would definitely spruce it up.

I found one thing for myself, this pretty yellow/green LL Bean sweater for $3.50. Snap!

Rashon held a fashion show that day, using only thriftstore clothes and they were having a blast.

A makeshift runway in the store brought out all the models.

Rashon has new I Love Thrifting T-shirts available in all new colors this year.

I met up again with Dayka and Erika, the two ladies behind Room Service Atlanta. They are great girls to know!

Erika brought along her 3 adorable children.

Fun time and great to see Mr. Goodwill Hunting again. He’s been all over the Nate Berkus show this year and I’m very happy for his success.

Sadly, I just read today that the Nate Berkus show has been cancelled and the last shows will air next May. I’m so sorry to hear this, as I have really enjoyed Nate’s show so much and he has given more blogger love than anyone on TV these days.

Here’s to 2012 and lots more thrifting!

Shopping Asheville, NC: The Screen Door & Tobacco Barn

Back in August, I headed up to NC for an awesome weekend with some fun blogger girlfriends to Angela’s beautiful cottage. We went shopping one day in Asheville and I never got around to sharing these pics. They are too fun NOT to share, so better late than never. We hit The Screen Door first and oh, my was it a fun place to browse. All sorts of fun and inspiring old stuff in there, so I hope you enjoy tagging along with us on this shopping excursion.

Petaluma Antiques Faire

On the weekend of my visit with Kate in Petaluma, CA, it happened to be the time of year for their annual streetside antiques fair. Even though we did get a little bit of rain that morning, we decided to head on out for a day of browsing the vendors. The rain stopped and it ended up being a really nice day.

Petaluma is a beautiful little town and seems to be such a great family place to live. Kate and her hubby speak highly of it and I imagine it is small town living at it’s best, being only 45 minutes from San Francisco, one of the prettiest cities in our country.

Fall was definitely in the air and the leaves were turning that September weekend.

So, off to the antiques fair we went, browsing and taking pics of our fave things. Wouldn’t this iron piece make a great coffee table?

Design TV at Queen of Hearts Antique Mall

I’m circling back around to a couple of weeks ago when I did the antique shopping trip with Kevin and Layla, for their HGTV pilot show! It was an exciting time. I tagged along, with some other bloggers and readers and we scoured the antique mall in search of a few things for the makeover.

Their producer, Patrick, was there telling us all what we were going to do. We broke up into groups and took off down the aisles.

Some of the bloggers and readers who showed up for the shopping trip. It was fun to see them all too. The production staff was there too.

Kevin, Shaunna, and I took off to one side of the store and the other group went the other way with Layla. Here’s a little video I did of the 3 of us!

I spied some fun things to take a pic of, like this old typewriter. My family used to have one very similar to this one.

We looked at one possible candidate for a side table, but this one wasn’t it.

Here’s the side table that ultimately went home for the makeover and I think it was $65, not bad.

I spied this cute old vintage slide box and that is what they decided on for the anniversary gift. It looked great in the room as a memory box.

These are 2 of my favorite people and I’m so happy that we all got to meet in blogland. I wish them GREAT success with the show and I have a feeling it will be on the air and we’ll all be cheering them on!

They got to drive around in this vintage ’72 Chevy Blazer during the shoot, rented for the week from another blogger (Charity) and it was so perfect for them.

Last Thrifty Treasures this Year!

Well, it’s time to bring our Thrifty Treasures party to a close, once again. I’m so glad you all have enjoyed it and have learned to get out there and look for the bargains. I hope to be at it again one of these days and miss the thrill of the hunt.

I have an Italian reader, Worldwide Mom, who scored an awesome little chair at the Goodwill and made it over. I love chair makeovers so much, I had to share this one.

All About Vignettes found a steal of a deal on a Dorothy Draper-esque chest at a resale store for $19.80. Pretty!

Laura at B & B’s Nest shared her unbelievable trash pick curbside find of a buffet. It’s gorge and she is going to paint it white. Lucky girl!

Design Pardeux recovered this vintage chair in some fun fabric! Love this one.

Old ironstone from an estate sale in Charleston, found by Junkin 4 Joy! So pretty.

More Thrifty Treasures

Just a reminder that next week will be our LAST Thrifty Treasures party of the year! It’s been fun, but time to take a break.

It has been an exciting week, working on the HGTV pilot show behind the scenes with my friends, Layla and Keviin, with The Lettered Cottage. Wow, is it a lot of hard work to get a room camera-ready in about 4 days. There were plenty of volunteers who came out to sew, paint, strip wallpaper, and be handy women and men. It was a fun collaborative project and I was happy to be there. I’ll share more on that soon, although I will NOT be able to share the finished room with y’all! I know, bummer! But, that is TV for you.

Everyday Lovely found a pretty vintage green suitcase at the thriftstore. Now, this made me chuckle, as the 60′s and 70′s are becoming more and more vintage. I had an orange set of luggage from the 70′s that was very similar to this one, right down to the little mirror inside. It’s probably floating around a thriftstore somewhere and had 3 pieces to it.

My 1929 Charmer scored a $100 buffet from the 30′s at Salvation Army and decided to paint her white. I think that was a wise decision, don’t you?

Stacey from Embracing Change got the deal of a century with this probably1930′s set of dining room furniture off Freecyle for FREE! Did you hear that? A table and 4 chairs, buffet and china cabinet, all for free. You can’t beat that!

Find out how Penny for Penny painted a $20 estate sale chair with fabric paint. Instead of tackling reupholstery, she painted her chair! Did you know there is fabric medium that can be mixed with paint and you can paint fabric? Now you do! I love how this turned out.

I just love original artwork scored on the cheap. Houseography found a $2.95 beauty at Goodwill. Love it!

Project Queen found a beautiful table and 4 chairs for $150 thrifting and repainted in chalk paint in that beautiful turquoise shade. Lovely!

September 11: Thrifty Treasures Revisited

Today is a sad day in our country’s history. Where were you on September 11, 2001? I was working that day at a company here in Atlanta. I still remember the horror and sadness that we all felt that day as we watched online, helpless to do anything to stop the absolute unbelievable scenes we were watching. I couldn’t let today pass without mentioning this monumental day. Remembering the past.

Now, here are some highlights from last week’s party.

New blogger, Julia from Black Tag Diaries, and who is also a friend of my niece, Lauren, has gotten the thrifting bug and scored a $3 nightstand, which she promptly painted with Oops paint for $2.50. Bargains all around and a lovely transformation! Can I just say that I’m so proud of you younger girls who are decorating your homes using recycled items. That thrills me to pieces!

Salmagundi was out looking for rusty gold at the salvage yard and found this really cool piece for $5. What can you do with something like this? Hang it on the wall? Make a mirror out of it! Lots of possibilities.

A beautiful painted piece always grabs me! Cath Grace looked in a thriftstore to find an affordable dresser to paint for her daughter’s room. She had an inspiration piece in mind and pulled this one off for a fraction of the price.

See, another painted piece, only this one is going to be changed. House Pour found this one at the local Restore, but it needs a fresh coat of paint, even though this electric blue is quite the eye catcher.

Mimi in the Middle of Nowhere scored a pretty white tureen at the thriftstore for less than $4.99 after her discount. Love some white dishes!

What a beauty of a vintage globe that Whisperwood Cottage found at a yardsale. Lovely piece!

Homeschooling Mom, Amber June, found a totally cool kitchen shelving thingy on her free curbside pick up day. She repurposed in into a home schooling storage space. Very sweet!

Check out these retro (from the 70′s) brass owls for $2 at a yardsale that Castles and Carriages picked up. See how those trends pop up again?
