I
do believe that if I made my hubby a yummy dessert once a week, I could stay on his good side forever. Dessert…the way to a man’s heart. At least, that’s true at my house, how about yours?
So, I got out this recipe that has been sitting in my recipe files that I have no idea where I got it from. Looks like I might have cut it out of the newspaper at some point. I have to tell you, I love a cake that starts with a box mix, don’t you? And can be cooked in a Bundt pan, that’s extra points. Sandra Lee would approve of this one.
I hate making layer cakes.
It starts with a yellow cake box mix, but then after adding all those extra special ingredients, it tastes SO homemade. This one has all the things we love:
chocolate chips
coconut
pecans
vanilla pudding and even
sour cream.
How can you go wrong with those ingredients?

It’s definitely a keeper and will go in the permanent recipe file. Delish!! Perfect for the family or a special occasion.
Chocolate Chip Cake
1 Yellow cake mix (I used Dunkin Hines)
1 Small box instant vanilla pudding (I used French Vanilla)
4 eggs
1/2 cup cooking oil
1 (8 oz.) sour cream
1 cup chocolate chips
1 cup chopped pecans
1 cup flaked coconut
Beat cake mix, pudding mix, oil, sour cream and eggs together until well blended, about 3 minutes. Stir in chips, nuts and coconut by hand. Grease tube pan. Pour cake mixture into pan. Bake at 350* for 1 hour. Turn oven off, open door and let cake set in pan for 1 hour before removing to cake server.
Hope you’ll try it, I think you’ll love it too!

Looks yummy!

Ooh! That looks yummy! I want a piece. Thanks for sharing the recipe. I will have to try that.
My hubby was a dessert lover (especially chocolate chip cookies) until he changed his diet for heath reasons. Now I don’t bake quite as much because it’s usually for just my daughter and myself.

I love to bake from scratch… but you had me at Duncan Hines! This one is a definite-I also love using bundt pans-so pretty and no layers! It looks delish!

OH YUM!! My mouth is watering this morning. This would be wonderful for our Wednesday night bible study!! Thanks for sharing.
I would leave my diet for that cake……
Looks and sounds fantastic. I will certainly give it a try.
Debra
Looks yummy! That’s the way to get to a man’s heart around here too, haha.
Sounds really moist and one I’ll have to try. Thanks for sharing.
Oh my! That just looks heavenly – I think I’ll bake one for my MOMS bible study on Thursday morning. Thanks for sharing the recipe!
Tina, yeah, I wish it was that easy.
He calls me the food police as it is, so if I don’t make a homemade treat occasionally, he’ll just get Hershey bars at the grocery store. Darned if I do & darned if I don’t! Needless to say, the diet isn’t going well, but i do try to help.
Chocolate coconut and pecans, all ingredients of my favorite candy bar, almond joy. When we go to Brusters for ice cream if they have it thats what I get chocolate almond, coconut. Will have to try this recipe soon.
Looks yummy!
Oh Rhoda I am on a diet….Goodness this cake looks so yummy with all of my favorites. I’ll bet this one is a winner for sure. Sigh…:)
You are my very first blog to now suscribe by feedburner! Yay!
I had clicked on your new follower box that’s on your “blog roll” page and I didn’t get any new feeds on my dashboard from it. I’m sure this way will work great. I appreciate you telling me how it works!
~Have a blessed day. ~Melissa
very similar to my recipe….though I use chocolate pudding and add 4 oz grated German (sweet) chocolate….I don’t use the coconut either, but that sounds yummy…..oh and I make a fudge frosting too…..sooooo good!
Rhoda…this looks terrific! Love to see those Bundt pans getting a workout
Blessings!
Gail
looks so tasty! i will have to test this recipe out! thanks rhoda!
Morning Rhodie!
What a yummy dessert this must be! Thank you for sharing – will definitely print the recipe out and try.
That is AFTER I undo the damage that I did this past weekend!
You would have loved the Southern Lady Celebration – can you believe the ladies that we met knew nothing about decorating blogs???
Love you,
Kim
Yum … I make the one from the lemon cake mix, with lemon pudding and then a lemon drizzle on top, and it is a family staple. I’ll definitely try yours.
That is going to be a hit here….thank you !!!
Kathy
THAT LOOKS AMAZING
Yummy; I agree you didn’t go wrong.
In my case, it’s me that stays happy when I have something sweet!! But, with a recent diabetes diagnosis (BOO!) I am having to say no…and it’s not easy. I think I would have to sneak a bite of your yummy cake.
Rhonda
Hey girl,
I don’t know, but would love to see you too! Rhonda is actually going to be here also. Will you be at NS Sunday?
I believe she’s going to 9:30 service and then flies out later that day.
It’s now in my recipe box for hubby!!
xoxo

Oh my word…I love the twist with the pecans and coconut. Very cool! This is a must-try.
Looks yummy! Will definitely try this one.
Thanks for stopping by yesterday. I have been following you for several months and I did know that collected bunnies:) Now that I have one, I am seeing them everywhere…..could it be the start of a collection??
Tamera@doubledelight
ooh you had me at chocolate chip…..but, lost me at coconut and pecans….sorry, not a fan of either….gotta say though that I could just replace the coconut with butterscotch chips and the pecans with peanut butter chips and maybe have a scoop of vanilla ice cream to cut the “sweetness” just a little…LOL! B:)
This looks yummy! Can’t wait to try it!
Yummy! I am definitely going to try this recipe soon. Thanks for sharing!
I am 51 years old and have never made a layer cake! Gotta love the bundt pan and your recipe is a keeper.
Gina
Oh,my gosh…YUMMMMMY! My husband is definitely a dessert guy, and loves it when I make something just for him. Neither of us needs the extra calories, but it really is so enjoyable to indulge once in a while, and this is the perfect recipe to use for just such an indulgence! Thanks so much for sharing it…now to get to the store!
God bless,
Mary
I have made the same cake many times and it is delicious! I might make one later this evening.
Yum, Rhoda – I LOVE those kind of recipes. Definitely “homemade.” I mean, we made it in our home, didn’t we? Thanks for linking up (even though my photobucket exceeded bandwidth and I was gone with it like that ALL DAY!) Just got it upgraded.
Thanks for sharing, I’m always game for a new yummy recipe!
This time of year I can get more excited about baking and cooking in general, now that the weather outside is putting a halt to gardening and other activities! Have a great day!
Rhoda, that looks insanely good!
This has been one our favorites for many years. I like to make
it especially in the summer time since it doesn’t have frosting
which can tend to slide off in heat of the deep south!
Looks yummy, I will have to try this one!
OK, this is all well and good but how do you resist? If I make it I eat it! Then I am mad because my clothes don’t fit! Viscious cycle! Let me know when you find the secret!
That sure looks good!! I am sure it is fat free with no calories of course.
Looks delicious! What’s not to love about a recipe with “chocolate chip” and “cake” in the title?
Oh, I gotta try this one! and I already have all the stuff….a BIG woohoo for keeping my pantry stocked with bargains! LOL
Yummo!! I just bought mini choc chips this past weekend to make a version of this sour cream pound/bundt cake but your recipe looks even simpler – lovely! Can’t wait to make the house smell yummy! thanks
Yum! I make a very similar cake that starts with a chocolate cake mix. I’ll have to try this variety next time!
Ohhhh I was doing really well this week-eating wise. My husband is coming home tonight…I am sure he would love this! I guess I’ll HAVE to make it! {wink wink}
Hi Rhoda! I have this recipe, except we use devils food cake, chocolate pudding, and chocolate chips with an almond-chocolate glaze. It is divine! Richella from Imparting Grace posted this recipe too except she uses cream cheese instead of the sour cream, so it’s obviously a very versatile cake
I’m going to have to try your version next…yum.
