True story.
About six weeks ago, we had a hot spell and I turned on my AC for the first time. The AC that I had installed almost a year ago, along with a new furnace. The old one that came with the house was the 1979 original and was on it’s literal last leg. It definitely wasn’t working great, but I let it go for a couple of years until it gave up the ghost last year. I had a local company that was recommended to me put in a new furnace and AC unit and it worked well last summer, cooling off the house.
This year, however, when I turned it on, it wasn’t cooling at all. Warm air came out, so I called the company that put it in and he came out in a couple of days to check it out. He ended up replacing some lines that ran from my garage (where the furnace is located) out to the AC unit and he charged up the freon that appeared to be low. I’m hoping this takes care of any AC problems I might have, but if not I’ll be calling them back. It’s a one year old unit.
When he came out and took out the old filter from the furnace unit, it was filthy dirty and he scolded me for not changing the filter in the year since he had been out. He mentioned we needed a handy man around here.
Uh oh, I had completely forgotten to change that thing. I keep up with so many things like changing the oil in my car regularly and most everything else I can keep up with, but somehow the air filter in my furnace had managed to slip my mind for a whole year.
Not good! You know what happens to our air when we don’t change the filters, right? It definitely clogs up the furnace unit and then it doesn’t do such a good job of keeping allergens and dust particles out of the air. And the unit doesn’t run as efficiently with a dirty filter.
Dusting is one of those chores that we all hate, but dust gets in the house no matter what. If you change your filters regularly though, it should help with the dust accumulation in the house. And dusting is not one of my favorite things to do.
Most of us forget to change our filters regularly. Do you write it on your calendar when you change your filter, so you can remember to do it again in 3 months? One to 3 months. That’s the recommended timeframe for changing out filters. I’ve never written it on my calendar either.
Life get’s busy and we all forget to do some of those household chores that don’t happen all the time. Then when we do remember to change them we don’t remember the size when we’re at the store, so it gets put off once again. Those rectangles all start looking alike when you’re trying to find the right one.
Plus, in addition to knowing the size, you have to figure out which ones to get. Allergen levels and ratings, what??
My memory is not what it used to be…..
When I heard about a subscription filter service that delivers filters to your front door, I thought that was pretty innovative since I had just gone through this myself.
The forgetting to get a filter part….
They asked me to try it out, so I said why not?
- FilterEasy is a subscription air filter delivery service that ensures consistent clean air and easy breathing without the hassle associated with changing air filters.
- Once you sign up for FilterEasy, you only do it once and then you’re set for your filter order.
- You choose how many filters you have in your home, size of each (some homes have 2 or 3 sizes of filters). Mine only has one. Choose how often you want them changed and the level of allergen protection.
- Just like that, FilterEasy ships you exactly the number of filters you need, in the correct size, just when you need to change them. so you won’t forget again. They will arrive when you are ready!
- FilterEasy filters are competitive with the home improvement store filter prices.
- Clean air filters help your HVAC unit run more smoothly, repairs are lowered and you save energy when your filters are kept clean. Clean filters make for efficient air flow. Cleaning the air removes pet dander, dust, and allergens. We don’t want any of that floating around our homes.
Now, I’m set to receive filters every other month, so I don’t have any excuses for not changing my filter on time. I signed up for the size 14x25x1 MicroAllergen filters for my furnace and they will arrive every 3 months, alerting me that it’s time to change my filters.

What a nice filter service that you found. That will be very convenient. I have a tip that works really well for keeping the drip line cleaned out thus avoiding it getting clogged up and then the air conditioning going out. Our serviceman installed a pvc piece that has a removable top to it. Once a month, I remove the top and pour equal amounts of Clorox mixed with water into the pipe. It runs out through the drip line to the outside. Really works great & helps to keep gook from building up.

Thanks for the great give away! Glad your house is cool!

Your house always looks so clean. But your right no one enjoys dusting, so change those air filters.

What a great giveaway! I just signed up and received my first filter for free! I have actually researched this service for several weeks and was planning on signing up on June 1…so this was a no brainer for me! I also added this to my calendar so I can add it to my budget and not be surprised when I get charged for the next one.

Living in the country surrounded by fields creates lots of of dust…the filters sound great.

I’m surprised to hear you have a furnace.
We use an electrostatic filter which is great for allergens and dust. My husband changes them out regularly. Not sure how often, but he is pretty religious about things like that. He has a white board in the garage/workshop and just keeps a list of when things were changed, etc. and goes by that.
You have sooooo much stuff to dust around! I’d hate it too!! LOL
Rhoda says
Ha! I don’t think I have that much stuff. When I look at other bloggers’ homes, they have a lot on their tabletops too, so I don’t feel in the minority at all.

Filters are just one of those things one must deal with, whether heating or cooling…vital components of any forced air system. A subscription filter service is a great idea, though I just do it with every seasonal change – winter, spring, summer, fall…it always seemed an easy way to remember (along with changing smoke detector and CO2 detector batteries with the fall and spring time change).

My husband has always changed our on the 1st of every month. He’s done it for years. First day of each month is easy to remember.

Great idea to have the filters delivered in a timely matter. That’s one way to not forget to change them.
Great giveaway!! Thanks!

Thanks so much for the free filters. I am bad about remembering!!!

I always forget to change the filters until the AC unit isn’t cooling as I think it should. The filter is the first thing I check because I am always forgetting to change it out.

My husband takes care of changing the filters in our unit, he’s an HVAC technician. He said a lot of the problems he finds are related to the filters. His customers either have forgotten to change them or didn’t know they had to.

Our new heat pump has had two issues cooling this summer. They just don’t make them like they used to. They may be more efficient but not so reliable. We got a top of the line model so here’s hoping it keeps going. So frustrating!
Lauren says
When we replaced our AC unit the man told me that there was no need to buy the Allergen free filters, that the less inexpensive no frills ones were just as good. What matters is that it gets changed regularly! We have found this to be true.

I have my filter checked/changed/washed at least once a year and sometimes twice. My guy says I have the cleanest filter he has ever seen, but I have dust absolutely everywhere!! Something isn’t right. I would love to have a filter installed by someone trustworthy that would do me right. I’m sick to death of living in a rural area where honest work is hard to come by.
Dawn says
I have the not seen this before. A company that will send you filters so don’t forget to change them. That is a really great idea. I am going to have to go check Filtereasy.com out.
Tammy says
Our thermostat alerts us when it’s time to change the filter, otherwise, I’d never remember, even though we try and do it on the first of each month, too.
Thanks so much for this promotion!

Great idea! Our thermostat flashes when the filter needs changes…..the word filter will flash. Otherwise Johnny would forget, crazy how hard it is to remember all the little things. I try to remind him too as I hate to dust too!! 🙂
