Rose’s Office Space

One of my readers, Rose, recently hired me to do a consultation, including an Inspiration Board for her home office.  Since she works at home and is in this space all the time, she was tired of not loving it and wanted to move in a new direction.  She liked the wall color OK, but was definitely open for a change.   She did have a great looking Pottery Barn white desk and chair, as well as some functional and neutral white bookcases, so the room is basically a blank slate. And this is the corner to the left of her desk, which I thought needed better utilizing. DSC_0121

And she has plenty of storage space with these 3 bookcases.

I got to work and came up with some ideas, after Rose told me she loves blues and greens.  She was also open for some pretty seating in this space and that corner above to the left of the window would be the perfect spot for that.  I gave her a detailed plan on paper and also a pretty Inspiration board and I think Rose is ready to rock n’ roll in this room now.  She said she’s already scheduled the painters.

For additional wall storage, I suggested she get some Ballard Designs shelves (pictured on the board), since they are great for adding storage on the wall.

Here’s the board I came up with, pretty shades of aqua blue, a little green thrown in and red as the accent. Click on the board to see all the details of each item at Polyvore:

Rose didn’t love the red chair OR the drapery panels from Ikea (she’s a little more understated), but she did mention that she loves black and white zebra print and would like to bring that in on a chair, so I told her YES, do that and just bring in simple creamy white panels for the windows.   She’s well on her way to having a fun and inspiring office space.
If you’d like to get a consultation for one of your rooms, click here for all the details.  I’d love to help you with some fresh new ideas for your space and help you pull it all together.

Also, if any of you have emailed me in the last couple of days, my computer is having some issues and I can’t get into my Outlook to review those emails.  Hope to get it restored in a couple of days and I’ll be checking my emails online, but those old ones are lost to me right now since they are sitting in my Outlook.  As soon as I can, I’ll get back to those.

Rhoda, that space you created is lovely ! I am smitten with your color choices, ALL of them. That blue is so serene, and I’m just crazy about the chair and pillow. I know you will get plenty of stylish people looking for your input, because you have impeccable taste !

It is too bad Rose does not like the splashes of color I think it looks amazing and fun and would be the perfect spot to work in. Love it!! Kathysue

Love it, Rhoda! I love the way the white shelves, desk and bookcases will pop off the blue you chose for the walls.

I’ve been thrilled to help my e-consultation clients and sometimes they might not like something I’ve chosen either. My last one didn’t care for a patterned drape either, but asked for an alternative in a solid. She is just about done with the one room we did and has told me she is looking for my help on a sun porch next.

Hi Rhoda,
I love the inspiration board choices–so fresh and stylish. I can just see that red chair in plush (100 % mohair) mmm…mmm…mmm!

This plan seems so versatile for Rose and I can see how easy it would be to change out the window panels or chair from time to time to get a different vibe. Great job Rhoda!

Love those IKEA panels! Question: how do you find house decor items on Polyvore? I only ever seem to be able to find clothes, shoes, etc. :/
