Ilove it when a publisher contacts me about doing a review on a decorating book.  I was recently given the opportunity to receive a copy of the book, Speed Decorating, by pro-stager Jill Vegas and the chance to give away a copy to one of my readers.

So, of course I said a BIG FAT….YES!

It’s full of glossy color pics that I think you’ll really enjoy and Jill focuses on a Speed Decorating Questionnaire evualating the following questions:

  • What are the primary functions of the space?
  • How does the room look?
  • Is everything working?
  • Does the room feel comfy and inviting:

She suggests getting started by answering these questions and gives a lot of practical tips for arriving at a room of your dreams.  I think the book is concise with some well thought out advice that all decorators could take advantage of, even if you don’t have natural skills and talents in this area.

Jill covers all of the following areas in detail with lots of pics:

Entry

Living Room

Kitchen

Dining Room

Bedroom

Bath

Curb Appeal

So, if you’d live to win a copy of this book, just leave a comment here and tell us which room you’d focus on if you were going to do some speed decorating?

Giveaway ends on Friday evening at 6 pm Central time.

Stumped on my open concept living room. Would love some ideas!!!

2 renee March 11, 2010 at 11:15 pm

I would probably focus on my kitchen. I’m considering painting my cabinets black, but I haven’t gotten up the courage to yet.

3 Natalie March 11, 2010 at 11:17 pm

Great giveaway! I’d definitely focus on our living room. It’s alright, but feels a little bland right now. Would love some ideas on how to spice it up! :)

Getting ready to move into a new home and I can use all the help I can get; this book sounds very interesting…

5 Bev March 11, 2010 at 11:29 pm

I sure could use some of this help. The room I would focus on first would be my living room as that is the first room you see when you walk in. I would love to win this.
Love your designs.

I would focus on my living room filled with outdated and worn out furniture, or maybe curb appeal. Our front yard is so bland. I sure could use some help! I love your ideas too.

We moved into our first home last year and our living room could really use some help. Would love to win this book!

10 joanne March 12, 2010 at 12:26 am

my living/dining room combo…need help desperately.

11 Sue Adams March 12, 2010 at 12:28 am

I would focus on the kitchen because of it being open concept it needs to coordinate with the great room

12 zsera March 12, 2010 at 1:02 am

I would focus on my living room

13 Mary March 12, 2010 at 1:03 am

I think it would be our living room – The other rooms need lots more to get them up to snuff!

14 Molly @ thecreativemaven March 12, 2010 at 1:09 am

My living room is in dire, dire need of some TLC!

15 Susan F March 12, 2010 at 1:46 am

I guess I would have to say the bedroom because that is the area of my home that I am currently remodeling so it is the room that is on my mind the most at this point. My second choice would have to be curb appeal since spring is rapidly approaching!

16 Jessica Schlener March 12, 2010 at 2:01 am

sounds like a GREAT book! I’d focus on my living room and kitchen…I want them to be more inviting!

17 Becca Ross March 12, 2010 at 3:09 am

The entry. It’s the first thing people see and it’s so boring.

18 Heather Overton March 12, 2010 at 4:57 am

We just found out that we’re expecting our first little one, and as I look around, I realize that our living room is anything but kiddo-friendly.

19 nanci March 12, 2010 at 7:03 am

My husbands man-cave and my sitting room are the main places that need help. Thanks for the give away!!

20 Kacey @ Shes.No.Martha March 12, 2010 at 7:08 am

This book looks GREAT. I would do my guest bedroom. My 17-yr old niece is coming to live with us while she goes to school so I would love to create a functional & comfortable room for her to enjoy!

21 Gena B. March 12, 2010 at 7:21 am

I need some tips and tricks!

22 Tracy March 12, 2010 at 8:34 am

I would have to say my kitchen. I recently had some interior painting done but I am just not satisfied with the results in my kitchen.

23 Sherry March 12, 2010 at 8:42 am

My living room could use the most decorating help! I have been indecisive with which direction to take this room.

24 JULIE ADAMS March 12, 2010 at 9:09 am

Just built a new house and would love ideas for all rooms of my house!

25 Heidi March 12, 2010 at 9:21 am

Where to start?? I have a beautiful blue on my living room walls and lots of brown accents to contrast, but for the last 3 years that it has been painted, it just didn’t feel right to me. I would LOVE some tips! Thanks for the giveaway opportunity!

26 karen March 12, 2010 at 9:29 am

I would focus on our living room. We moved in with my mom and she is so set on leaving everything where it was and it doesnt work for a family of 5 so I could use the book as a guide (and an excuse) for changing things around to actually function properly. Plus I would enjoy the book! karen…

27 Kathy Hamff March 12, 2010 at 9:41 am

I would focus on my master bedroom. It needs new linens and to be painted. I love how your friend’s room turned out. She did an awesome job!

28 kate s. March 12, 2010 at 10:11 am

i have already read the book from cover to cover (a` la my local library) and it is so great! would love to win it for my own collection. i’d probably do my bedroom because i spend so much time in there…sadly, it seems like a catch-all for all the clutter of the house. NOT a peaceful environment for sleeping if you ask me. this southern belle thinks your blog rocks!

29 Connie @ Sogni e Sorrisi March 12, 2010 at 10:12 am

Cool giveaway!

I would focus on our bedroom, its been kind of neglected.

30 Sharla March 12, 2010 at 10:14 am

I would focus on our kitchen (need to paint cabinets) or our master bedroom. Looks like a great book!

31 ursula March 12, 2010 at 10:18 am

wonderful giveaway! hmmmm…..so many choices…..I think that I would pick the family room ……it really is the most utilized room in our house, and we need to give it love!!

32 Christy, The ShoppinJunkie March 12, 2010 at 10:21 am

Sounds like a great book I’d LOVE to have! We’ve been at our new house for 18 months and I still have two problems areas – our front yard and our Master Bedroom.

Thanks for this great giveaway Rhoda – you always come through for us! :-)

33 Barbara March 12, 2010 at 10:26 am

Our guest/sewing/craft room! Good heavens, it needs help!

Thanks for this opportunity – and for your fantastic blog!

34 Chrystine March 12, 2010 at 10:40 am

The laundry room and family room. The laundry room doesn’t function well and the family room is full of yard sale stuff I love, but there isn’t any cohesiveness about it in comparison to the rest of the house.

35 Megan March 12, 2010 at 10:52 am

i would focua on the dining room seeing how I haven’t really decorated it since we moved in!

~Megan

36 Heather Woosley March 12, 2010 at 11:09 am

I guess I’d work on the main bathroom. It’s the last of the rooms in this house to be redone.

37 June March 12, 2010 at 11:32 am

I would love to win this book, my bedroom needs a lot of help!!!

38 Karla Meachem March 12, 2010 at 11:34 am

Living room…been wanting to make it into a quiet sitting area/library.

Now that we have all the electronics moved downstairs; it’s a great possibility! I can start dreaming & putting ideas together. :)

Thanks for the entry!!!

39 Sara Ingold March 12, 2010 at 11:36 am

I would choose the living room because I think it would make my roomies in NYC so happy to come home to an inviting space :) Our walls and floors may be crooked, but that doesn’t mean it can’t be cute!

40 Elise March 12, 2010 at 12:21 pm

My foucs is on my home “office.” I am currently stuffed into a corner of our teeny den (aka spare bedroom.) Books, papers and office supplies are scattered everywhere – face it – it’s a total mess.

41 Sharon March 12, 2010 at 12:51 pm

Speed decorating …. perfect. I would do my living room, it needs a couple changes!

42 Amy Erpelding March 12, 2010 at 1:22 pm

I would probably focus on my kitchen. It is comfortable now, but needs a lot of work. I know what I want but just need a little direction for what to do next. What a great book this looks like!

43 Oonafey @ Little Pink Houses March 12, 2010 at 1:23 pm

I need advice on speed decorating my entire house! I would probably focus on the dining room first, though.

44 Helen Maddox March 12, 2010 at 1:26 pm

Well – I am 50 years old – and have a mix of furniture, furnishings, and a limited budget. I would like to update the look of my house in all my rooms – but probably would focus on my den/dining room combo (since they open up to each other). I would love to try some paint – find some deals (I am a avid thrifter) – and see where it all lands! I know this book would probably be a help – getting started and staying focused can be a challenge for me. Doing something quickly with a nice turnout – how could you ask for more!

45 Heidi Lambeth March 12, 2010 at 1:55 pm

The living room. I like mine just dont LOVE it. I want to love it!

46 Brenna March 12, 2010 at 2:06 pm

LIving room

47 Whitney March 12, 2010 at 2:16 pm

I would focus on my living room. It is so boring!

48 Gretchen T March 12, 2010 at 2:17 pm

Honestly, I would focus on ALL of my rooms since I just bought my first house, but if I had to pick one it would be my kitchen because it’s huge. I’ve never had a kitchen that’s big enough for me to think about decorating it!

49 Jerri March 12, 2010 at 3:25 pm

Speed decorating seems like a concept I would enjoy reading about. I think my bedroom needs help, so that is where I’d concentrate first.

50 DanaMc March 12, 2010 at 4:33 pm

Oh, I would surely choose the office/dining room/media center area. I’m overwhelmed!

51 Patricia March 12, 2010 at 5:47 pm

It would have to be my living room/dining room/office space. Unfortunately, my dining area shares space with a desk with 2 computers and a computer desk with a third. I’d love to learn what to do.
