Thrifty Finds this week

Hi,friends!  I hope you’ll all make yourself comfortable at my new place. Take off your shoes and enjoy.  There will be some tweaking to do with this new blog (fixing some broken links, etc.), but I’ll be working on those as I find them.  If you see something that is off, feel free to email me about it, thanks!  A BIG thanks to my blog designer, Darcy, at Graphically Designing for making the switch for me and holding my hand.  And not making me feel like an idiot at trying to learn a new program.

I have over 3,800 subscribers to my Blogger blog, so please, please ALL of you take the time to re-subscribe to my new one.  That would be wonderful! I love knowing that all of you are still out there with me.

So, on to the Thrifty Party this week.  I got to a few sales, but really didn’t buy much at all.  And that’s OK, there’s always  next week, right?!

There are some fabulous views here in Birmingham and this was the sight from the back deck of a moving sale in Brook Highland.  Isn’t that WOW?!  It was so packed, I went through and looked as well as I could and grabbed only one thing.

This softly draping knit dress by Nina Leonard was $1!  Steal!  I  never found a size on it, but figured since it is a wrap-style dress it could work for me and it does just fine.  The sleeves were a little long (that hardly ever happens), so I’ll just push them up.  This isn’t a complete wrap dress, in that it’s not open all the way down, but only the middle section wraps  and I like it better that way.  I love that I can tighten it or loosen as needed.  You know, just in case I get fat or anything. 🙂

And with my $2 shoes from last week’s sale, a pretty thrifty outfit, all for $3.  The material is really comfortable too and you know I loved the print. Giraffe is it? Black and white is such a staple in my closet.  I looked online and found a link to QVC and they were selling the short sleeved version for $46, here.  But, it’s no longer available. I did get a deal! IMG_5985

Moving on, in my own neighborhood at a sale, I found this pretty lime green plastic pitcher for 50 cents. Always nice to have in the summer and it will coordinate with my other outdoor dish finds.

This pretty tiny little oil painting was 25 cents. I just love these little vintage paintings and at that price, wasn’t about to leave it.  It will look cute on an easel on a bookshelf.

IMG_5987We’ve added 2 hummingbird feeders in the backyard this year and have had a ball watching those cute little creatures, so when I spotted this iron hummingbird, I had to get it.  At $3, it was my splurge of the day.IMG_5983I stopped by one of the big thrift stores in Alabaster since I was over that way for an in-home consultation last week and found one thing to bring home. This green print skirt from Old Navy was more than I usually spend, but I love the style of these skirts, so for $5, wasn’t too bad.  It has some pretty ribbon trim too, a great summer skirt. IMG_5989This is not a yardsale piece, but you have to see what I won in a giveaway.  Lara Harris, a wonderful artist, had a giveaway and I was lucky enough to win it.  I sent her a pic of the photo of my iron urn (from a yardsale of course) on my header, so it seems only fitting to have this captured on canvas.  I love it, Lara!  I’ll have to find the right spot for this 5×7″ beauty. Check out Lara’s blog for all her beautiful paintings.  You can get one done too!

So, get ready to share your treasures too.  Remember our guidelines for Mr. Linky parties:

  1. Enter your permalink to your thrifty post and NOT just your blog url.  If you aren’t sure how to do that, please refer back to last week’s party. All links that do not go to your party post will be deleted.
  2. Please add a link back to THIS post, so that all your readers can find the party and join in or at least read about all the fun that everyone else had, or I’ll have to delete those too.

  3. I love your new blog. It looks really cool and I hope all your followers and subscribers get themselves all over here.

  4. I apologize for entering twice. The first time it looked like it wasn’t there. I am sometimes a cyber idiot.

  5. I love that painting with the acorns. So adorable!! thanks for another fun blog party!!

  6. Hi Rhoda,

Wow, what a pretty dress and skirt! Good deals! Congrats on the new website! Thanks for hosting this for us. It’s so much fun!

  7. Some of my favorite clothes and shoes were $1 and $2 from yard sales! Maybe that is why my closet is so full! hee hee.

    Happy Sunday, Rhoda!

  8. That outfit looks like a million dollars and surely not like three! Congratulations on your new home, it looks great!!!

  9. Love the new site! That dress you found is too darn cute – I would love to have one like that. I also love the pitcher … I thought it was glass before I read the description – the color is great! Hope you have a great week!!

  10. What a great outfit for 3 dollars!! The skirt is cute, too. I’ve got to start yard saleing so I can get some real super duper deals like you gals get! :0) Love the green pitcher. Right now some margaritas or sangria mixed up in it would be real good!

  11. Rhoda, you ALWAYS find such nice things – even on a bad day! I promise, I think your car has bargain radar! Love the black & white dress – wow! Linda

  12. That wrap dress is adorable and I absolutely LOVE the iron hummingbird. Those are my favorite little birds and I definitely would have HAD to have that!

  13. Check you out! Looking great in that wrap dress (my fave dress style and best for curvy/hour glass-like girlies like me). Also loving that precious oil painting. I can’t seem to come across nice ones. Yours has softly faded earthy blues and greens, love it 🙂

  14. Oh my goodness, you always find the best clothes. One dollar for a gorgeous dress…lucky you. Best wishes with your new blog home. I am happily re-subscribed.

  15. Love the wrap dress! What a find.

I’m off to subscribe to your new site. Best wishes.

  16. You always find the cutest clothes, Rhoda! And I love seeing your little painted toes… tee hee The miniature picture WILL adorable on an easel in a bookcase. I, too, thought it was glass! You get to keep your tiara….. *grin*

You look just fabulous in your new dress and skirt! What great thrifty finds, that dress looks like it was made for you! I love joining on to this blog party! Hugs, Cindy

  29. Rhoda, I had to do this twice, due to my short term memory loss. I think it all came back eventually. I look forward to your thrifty party and as usual you found some beauties to bring home. The outfit is beautiful, you really do well with fiding cute clothes, not so easy for me. Also love both of the paintings you got. I think I wil be using the painting technique you used on your chairs to redo the Pottery Barn console, what do you think? My son and my husband say leave it alone, it looks fine, but I probably won’t be trusting their opinion. He He. Like the new blog by the way, congratualtions I had no idea you had that many followers. Mind blogging I mean bogiling!! Marla

  30. I absolutely love the hummingbird! They haven’t been visiting our feeder as much this summer for some reason. I need something like that to lure them back, hehe! Thanks for sharing and for hosting this fun linky party!

  31. Great finds, love the dress on you!

  32. Hi Rhoda,
I love your wrap dress and skirt! I was on the hunt this weekend for some cute clothes for me. I scored on a denim jacket…but that was it! But I found lots of other treasures!

Also love the painting and her work…I will have to check out her blog for more awesomeness…will you please forgive me for not getting to see you this time around? I was all excited and then BAM! my schedule was rearranged suddenly (found out I was leaving a day earlier than I thought-guess I should read a little more closely). Anyhow, I hate that I missed you but I WILL be back with MORE time next time so I will let you know and we will just have to set a time, place and date…love you lady!

  38. Hi Rhoda,

I don’t think I will get to join in on the fun this week. I have things to show but my mom-in-law is in town and we spend our time together doing traditional scrapbooking. Maybe I will blog on my 2 layouts so far today.

Love the stuff you found, esspecially the Old Navy skirt. ..

    Have a great week.

  39. Great finds Rhoda! Love that dress and shoes! It totally made my day to have you visit this newbie blogger 🙂

  44. Hi Rhoda,
The Nina Leonard dress looks great on you! Nobody would ever believe it only cost you $1 (well, no one other than your loyal fans!). Can’t believe the little painting was only 25 cents. Glad it found a good home with someone who appreciates it!

Thanks as always for hosting the party! It’s great fun to participate. Thought I was never going to get my post done … technical difficulties (that part was NOT fun!)!

Congrats on your fun thrifty finds, on winning the painting, and on moving to your brand new site.

Here’s wishing you all the very best!

  45. You look fabulous in your black and white dress!!! I’m not participating this week as the only thing we found was a pink bag for my daughter to use for overnight trips. And I’m too lazy to take a pic! 🙂

  46. musingegret says:

I loved your old site and your new one even more; it doesn’t freeze if I open more than one link now! Is there a way that the links will change color after I’ve opened them to read them? I’m so pleased that more folks are participating each week; it makes my Sunday nights such a pleasure.

  47. Love your finds! Love that dress, it looks great! Love that green pitcher and that print is awesome! Thanks for hosting, So fun as always!

  48. Hey Rhoda,
Congrats on your move. I am SURE everyone will move right with ya. I saw your post this weekend but didn’t have time to do everything right then so here I am. It is so funny to me that you are moving. I have been checking into buying my blog name and moving as well. I’ve been reading up on some blogging stuff and I think now would be a good time to do it, before I get big, if that is what God has for my blog.
I am still working on some things but need to send you another e-mail as soon as I am done with a project.

Thanks for all you do and congrats-everything looks great.

  49. Best wishes with your new website

  52. Hi Rhoda!
This is my first time to leave a comment and my first time to join in the monday thrifting! I’ve been checking out your blog for quite sometime, but have been a little lazy on the commenting! Your new blog is lovely! Love all your finds especially that great dress!

  53. I found some versatile woven cotton blankets for $3.99 each. With a bit of embellishment they will be wonderful heirlooms!

Love the dress. It looks fantastic on you! Truly a bargain!!!!

  54. Congratulations on your “home,” Rhoda! Isn’t Darcy the best? Your new place looks terrific.

I love the way you didn’t really do that much yard-saling this weekend, yet you managed to come up with several wonderful things. I love that wrap dress–$!?? Are you kidding? But my favorite is the hummingbird. Now that’s adorable. Definitely the right splurge.

Take care! Hope your move to the new address goes smoothly. I’m sure your readers will follow you wherever you go. I know I would have hunted you down!!

  55. I love the dress, it looks so pretty on you, but I’m so afraid you’re going to fall down those steps! lol
Btw, thanks for hosting this every week, it’s so much fun!

  56. What a fabulous dress and it looks perfect on you! Love that hummingbird, too. Your new “place” looks great!

  57. I am new at garage saling/ thrifting and I am IN LOVE with it, LOVE seeing all the finds here!

  58. Hi Rhoda,
Luv your black & white dress. No one would ever guess you paid a $1 for it and I also noticed those shoes you were wearing! I’m amazed at what your entire outfit cost you compared to what it would have cost retail. Simply amazing and very eye opening for me. TFS! Sheila

  59. Can I just say that I’m a bit envious that you can find so many wonderful outfits at such bargain prices. I have the hardest time finding thrifty clothes that I like.
    Great finds, as always!

  60. I worry about you taking pictures of yourself at the top of the stairs! Be careful! Love the Old Navy skirt!

  61. Great finds as usual! Love the dress, the skirt,(I never find clothes and I NEED some more!) and both the paintings. Can’t wait to see where they’ll end up. Welcome to your new address.

  62. It’s looking great over here at your new site. I changed my links. 😉

And, all of your new goodies are fabulous.

  70. Hello Rhoda – thank you for hosting another fun party! I’m about to head on over to take a look at the participant’s treasures. And thank you for joining me on Friday for my Heirloom Party!

  71. Hey Rhoda!!
I’m almost positive I saw you at the Alabaster thrift store! I was there Friday and saw a woman that looked liked you, but didn’t want to embarrass myself by saying hello to the wrong person. I like that thrift store and usually find a few things, but it always seems picked over and a little pricier than other thrift stores…
thanks for sharing your finds…I love that skirt!

  72. Love your finds. The dress is fabulous—and a steal at only a buck. Looks great w/the shoes too. I also love the Old Navy skirt.

  73. Great dress!

  74. oma’goodness I just adore that little painting. It is something that just draws my eye right into the canvas…Tis love I tell you. That metal hummingbird made me do a double take– my father makes the very same thing. I’ve got an identical one in my backyard.

  75. Love…that…dress!!! smiles~

  76. I love that dress, when your done, send it my way.. You look wonderful.

  77. Better late than never! I love coming over and visiting. I haven’t been so good at getting around lately…been so busy but hope to get back in the scene. Love your outfit!

  78. Just stumbled on your blog… great stuff! I’ll be back for sure!

  79. Everything is looking great-just like home. I hope everything is going smooth on your end. I linked to this and did my first post-I believe to your Thrifty Monday, even though I am late getting over here (yeah — it’s Tuesday). I got 8 lampshades for $5 at a local thrift shop and have been doing make overs on them. I have 2 that I redid this weekend.
    Its So Very Cheri

  80. better late than never I always say! Erin
