Thrifty Finds this week

by Rhoda on July 26, 2009

Hi,friends!  I hope you’ll all make yourself comfortable at my new place. Take off your shoes and enjoy.  There will be some tweaking to do with this new blog (fixing some broken links, etc.), but I’ll be working on those as I find them.  If you see something that is off, feel free to email me about it, thanks!  A BIG thanks to my blog designer, Darcy, at Graphically Designing for making the switch for me and holding my hand.  And not making me feel like an idiot at trying to learn a new program.

I have over 3,800 subscribers to my Blogger blog, so please, please ALL of you take the time to re-subscribe to my new one.  That would be wonderful! I love knowing that all of you are still out there with me.

So, on to the Thrifty Party this week.  I got to a few sales, but really didn’t buy much at all.  And that’s OK, there’s always  next week, right?!

IMG_5975

There are some fabulous views here in Birmingham and this was the sight from the back deck of a moving sale in Brook Highland.  Isn’t that WOW?!  It was so packed, I went through and looked as well as I could and grabbed only one thing.

IMG_5977

This softly draping knit dress by Nina Leonard was $1!  Steal!  I  never found a size on it, but figured since it is a wrap-style dress it could work for me and it does just fine.  The sleeves were a little long (that hardly ever happens), so I’ll just push them up.  This isn’t a complete wrap dress, in that it’s not open all the way down, but only the middle section wraps  and I like it better that way.  I love that I can tighten it or loosen as needed.  You know, just in case I get fat or anything. :)

IMG_5980

And with my $2 shoes from last week’s sale, a pretty thrifty outfit, all for $3.  The material is really comfortable too and you know I loved the print. Giraffe is it? Black and white is such a staple in my closet.  I looked online and found a link to QVC and they were selling the short sleeved version for $46, here.  But, it’s no longer available. I did get a deal! IMG_5985

Moving on, in my own neighborhood at a sale, I found this pretty lime green plastic pitcher for 50 cents. Always nice to have in the summer and it will coordinate with my other outdoor dish finds.

IMG_5984

This pretty tiny little oil painting was 25 cents. I just love these little vintage paintings and at that price, wasn’t about to leave it.  It will look cute on an easel on a bookshelf.

IMG_5987We’ve added 2 hummingbird feeders in the backyard this year and have had a ball watching those cute little creatures, so when I spotted this iron hummingbird, I had to get it.  At $3, it was my splurge of the day.IMG_5983I stopped by one of the big thrift stores in Alabaster since I was over that way for an in-home consultation last week and found one thing to bring home. This green print skirt from Old Navy was more than I usually spend, but I love the style of these skirts, so for $5, wasn’t too bad.  It has some pretty ribbon trim too, a great summer skirt. IMG_5989This is not a yardsale piece, but you have to see what I won in a giveaway.  Lara Harris, a wonderful artist, had a giveaway and I was lucky enough to win it.  I sent her a pic of the photo of my iron urn (from a yardsale of course) on my header, so it seems only fitting to have this captured on canvas.  I love it, Lara!  I’ll have to find the right spot for this 5×7″ beauty. Check out Lara’s blog for all her beautiful paintings.  You can get one done too!

So, get ready to share your treasures too.  Remember our guidelines for Mr. Linky parties:

  1. Enter your permalink to your thrifty post and NOT just your blog url.  If you aren’t sure how to do that, please refer back to last week’s party. All links that do not go to your party post will be deleted.
  2. Please add a link back to THIS post, so that all your readers can find the party and join in or at least read about all the fun that everyone else had, or I’ll have to delete those too.

Hi Rhoda!
This is my first time to leave a comment and my first time to join in the monday thrifting! I’ve been checking out your blog for quite sometime, but have been a little lazy on the commenting! Your new blog is lovely! Love all your finds especially that great dress!

I found some versatile woven cotton blankets for $3.99 each. With a bit of embellishment they will be wonderful heirlooms!

::whistle::
Love the dress. It looks fantastic on you! Truly a bargain!!!!

Congratulations on your “home,” Rhoda! Isn’t Darcy the best? Your new place looks terrific.

I love the way you didn’t really do that much yard-saling this weekend, yet you managed to come up with several wonderful things. I love that wrap dress–$!?? Are you kidding? But my favorite is the hummingbird. Now that’s adorable. Definitely the right splurge.

Take care! Hope your move to the new address goes smoothly. I’m sure your readers will follow you wherever you go. I know I would have hunted you down!!

Hi Rhoda,
Luv your black & white dress. No one would ever guess you paid a $1 for it and I also noticed those shoes you were wearing! I’m amazed at what your entire outfit cost you compared to what it would have cost retail. Simply amazing and very eye opening for me. TFS! Sheila

Can I just say that I’m a bit envious that you can find so many wonderful outfits at such bargain prices. I have the hardest time finding thrifty clothes that I like.
Great finds, as always!

Hey Rhoda!!
I’m almost positive I saw you at the Alabaster thrift store! I was there Friday and saw a woman that looked liked you, but didn’t want to embarrass myself by saying hello to the wrong person. I like that thrift store and usually find a few things, but it always seems picked over and a little pricier than other thrift stores…
thanks for sharing your finds…I love that skirt!

Christina July 27, 2009 at 7:22 pm

Love your finds. The dress is fabulous—and a steal at only a buck. Looks great w/the shoes too. I also love the Old Navy skirt.

oma’goodness I just adore that little painting. It is something that just draws my eye right into the canvas…Tis love I tell you. That metal hummingbird made me do a double take– my father makes the very same thing. I’ve got an identical one in my backyard.

Everything is looking great-just like home. I hope everything is going smooth on your end. I linked to this and did my first post-I believe to your Thrifty Monday, even though I am late getting over here (yeah — it’s Tuesday). I got 8 lampshades for $5 at a local thrift shop and have been doing make overs on them. I have 2 that I redid this weekend.
