Yardsales this Week

in Today's Thrifty Treasures,Yardsales and Thrifting

The dog days of summer are heating up and this is when I start to lose my enthusiasm for getting up early on Saturday and heading out.  I did hit a few this week, but the neighborhood sales are long gone.  Now it’s house to house to see what is out there.  I really didn’t get much and some of them weren’t even worth taking pics, but here’s one to share.

These cute little green Christmas serving pieces were only 10 cents each and that’s really the only reason I got them. The green color is a pretty pear green.   So, I figured for 60 cents, I can use them for the Holidays this year.

So, this week wasn’t much to write home about. I did buy an extra caulk gun for 50 cents, a Calphalon non-stick pan for $2, and a square box hose reel for $1.  See, not too exciting.  But, that’s OK.  Every week can’t be a huge score.

Susan, from Love Where You Live, did a little feature today on me and my new porch space, so go on over and say hello to her.  She’s a fun gal with a fun job. She scouts out homes for magazine shoots, wouldn’t you love that job?!

EDITED to ADD:  And last, but not least, the winner of the Scentsy giveaway is:  Renae, who I’ve already contacted by email.  Thanks to all of you for signing up for that.  If you didn’t win, I have a new sponsor with a Scentsy shop, so I hope you’ll check her out too, button to the right.

Now it’s YOUR turn!  What have YOU found lately? Add your link to the Linky list and remember our guidelines for the party:

  1. Add your permalink to the link list, which is the actual post that you did for this party, NOT your general blog url. To get the actual post, after you publish the post, just click on the title and THAT will be your party post url.  PLEASE try to get the correct url in the first time! :)
  2. Please add my button to your post or blog OR at least link back to this post in your post. That’s all I ask. It’s common courtesy to link back to the person having the party, so that all of your readers can find it too.
  3. Please do NOT link to an Etsy shop or something similar (even if you think it’s a fabulous deal) or I will delete the link. This party is for sharing thrifty finds from yardsales, thriftstores, or something along those lines. If I see that your post is not really on track with this theme AND you don’t link back, I’ll delete your link. Sorry, but I’d like to keep the party consistent! IF YOU SEE THAT YOUR LINK HAS BEEN DELETED, IT IS PROBABLY BECAUSE IT IS NOT IN LINE WITH THIS PARTY THEME.

Hi Rhoda, I hear ya! It’s been very hot here, too and the yard sales, what’s left of them haven’t had many good items…I can’t wait until the cooler weather comes in the early fall and all the good junk comes out again! I love the little dishes! Have a great evening! xoxo Beth

I tend to agree with you Rhoda. Steph and I didn’t find much for garage sales so we hit the thrift stores too. But we still had fun. We certainly don’t experience hot weather like you must….it’s almost down right chilly here in Canada today.

Hi Rhoda! Love the little Christmas plates! It is miserably hot and humid here, too! And it doesn’t look like any relief is in sight! :-( Have a wonderful week!…hugs…Debbie

Hi Rhoda!
I haven’t been by for a while…I saw your feature on Love Where You Live and thought I would pop over! I love your porch featured on her website.

Those plates are great!

I link up to this post with something I found at an antigue mall/flea market.
Hugs,
Penny

I really believe all this heat and humidity has put a ” damper” on yard sales. There aren’t that many advertised. I think people will wait til early fall to have them again. Who wants to sit out in a hot garage all day? Give me early spring or fall to enjoy cooler weather and all those yard sales. :-) Sue

Hey, Rhoda! :) I love the plates. It’s been slim pickin’s around here with yard sales as well as thrift stores. Maybe everyone (but me) is at the beach. Thank you for hosting this party. :)

I’m not much of a fan of regular ol’ yard sales. There’s not really much to look at! I went to 2 estate sales and saw so much! They have more variety with furniture and antiques!

Hello Rhoda!
Those plates are quite the bargain at 10 cents each! It can be too hot for garage sales for sure…
We are cooling down again here in the Pacific Northwest!
Have a great week

Some days are diamonds; some days are stones. And not every week can be a great thrifty treasures week, huh? But you’re a great sport for still hosting this fun party.

I saw that you were the winner at CSI this past week. I think it’s wonderful for you to join parties like that–a great way to support a new blog. You are often the one to set a great example in the blogging world, Rhoda! I appreciate you.

Whoo – it is getting a little too hot for the yard sales. I ended up hitting two that were slim and then heading to Goodwill! Thanks for hosting!

Thanks so much for hosting! I love having little plates like that around, then you can send home treats with guests, and not worry about getting the plate back.
I’m off to check out the post on your porch! Loved it by the way :-)

Rhoda,
Yep, it’s just too hot to enjoy the outdoors here right now, especially mid-day! I am looking forward to fall already! That’s when I love to get out and about.

The sales around here are really slowing down too. The plates are super cute and you can’t beat the price you got. The hose reel sounds good too, I’d like to find one of those myself.

It was horrible here with humidity this weekend, too, Rhoda! I stayed in most of the weekend watching movies/tv. I see from some of the thumbnails that others ventured out and got some deals. Once I catch up on my regular blog roll I’ll be back to check them out!

Hi Rhoda,
I hope “my” yard sale find qualifies. I had houseguests over July 4. One of them found this rare snowshoe chair; one of which is currently on 1stdibs for $1,800!! My three girlfriends pooled together their $80 and bought this chair for me! And it was at a yard sale!! I say brake for every tag sale you come across. We may not find rare items, but it’s fun looking!

There will be neighborhood or villagewide sales again come late summer, just before school starts again.
However people are still clearing out. Thrift stores around me are overflowing. Sadly, I was unable to make it to “Crazy Days” this Saturday where an entire store was half off! Maybe it was for the best. After all, it is the thrill of the hunt, right? I would have been tempted by cheap.
I do appreciate your 10 cent dishes. Not just for Chrsitmas.

Helloooo Miss Rhoda! I’ve missed you. I can’t believe your time at the ranch with PW. What an amazing opportunity~you deserve it. :) I have been in a yard sale rut this summer. I still don’t know the area that well and don’t have a yard sale buddy yet and I miss it. I’ve found myself more at the Goodwill and the prices there just aren’t as good as yard sales. Thanks for hosting~
Hugs,
Melissa

Melissa, I’ve been in a similar rut. We moved to a new area a few months ago, and I still don’t know it well enough to feel comfortable going to many yard sales. There are two Goodwill stores around here with OK prices, but yard sales are infinitely better and there’s an opportunity to negotiate with the seller. I feel your pain :)

I love your Christmas pieces. They are perfect to use for individual hors d’oeuvres plates. My find of the week was three Ball canning jars filled with beach glass from the shores of Lake Michigan at an estate sale… $2 each.
