Since the Atlanta Decorative Arts Center opened its doors to the public a couple of years ago, they are now offering many more events, like design panels, book signings, and lots more. I still don’t know my way around down there, but one of these days I’m going down to explore all the design shops that call ADAC home. It’s so inspiring to go there and look in the store windows to see all the new things coming out in the world of design. From furniture, to fabrics, there is eye candy everywhere for design lovers like me. Only designers can purchase at ADAC, but anyone can go and look.
Last week was one of their design weeks and they had some famous designers in, speaking on panels about various topics. I caught the one by Darryl Carter, who is very talented and well known in the design industry and lives in the DC area. I loved hearing him speak and seeing his work up on the screen.
And once again, ADAC had their Behind the Windows series, sponsored by Traditional Home magazine for their 25th anniversary celebration. I also sat on a session with Editor in Chief, Ann Maine at Traditional Home, along with some other notable designers, talking about trends and the future of design. That was interesting too.
I took some pics and thought you all might like to see the ADAC’s Behind the Windows series this time around.
These rooms were literally behind glass windows, so keep that in mind too, they are not the best photos I’ve taken.
I tried to keep these in order and note which designer was which, but I may have a few out of order. Barbara Westbrook, who was on the Traditional Home panel.
Harmonious Living by Tish Mills
I think this goes with Tish Mills designs.
And this one too.
Not sure about this one. It’s hard to keep things organized when you’re snapping pics fast and furious.
Amanda Nisbet Designs
Allison Paladino Interior Design. Loved seeing the splash of blue in this space with all the neutrals out there now.
Very sophisticated.
Not sure who did this room, either I missed the sign or it wasn’t up there. I’m missing one of the designers listed, Michelle Workman, so this might be her space.
Phoebe Howard
Robert Brown Interior Design
Gary McBournie, Inc. This is a fun space!
Hope you enjoyed this peek behind the windows at ADAC! It’s open to the public now so you can sign up for their classes if you are here in the Atlanta area.
I’m still working with Ebay and have another style guide over there, so would love for you to take a look, all about decorating and DIYing botanicals, a fave of mine.  Just click the pic!
I certainly see more color and hope that replaces all the gray that I find depressing but Rhoda, I would take your new decorated den over any of these rooms. YOu certainly get to go to lots of fun decor functions. What do you think will become a popular new trend from what you heard and saw?
Hey, Mary, they touched on trends and mentioned classic rooms from the 40s and 50’s that would still look current today. They really didn’t forecast too much for the future, but I am sure trying to stay classic with my choices these days.
I would be so sad to have to live in some of those drab, gray rooms. I also prefer your style which is bright with light and has pops of cheerful color!!
I thought the same thing as the ladies above. With the exception of the orange room & the beachy room, these rooms were depressing. I hope these aren’t the next “trends!” Your den is lovely, btw!!!
Hmm… would take your space any day. These ‘high fashion/high dollar’ designers are kind of out there in these room designs. Though I totally get these are sets to display design talents, optinons and tastes and most likely not real rooms (at least I hope not). 🙂
Definitely some funky tchotchkes!
Your decorating and my decorating are much more appealing than what I see here. Thanks for letting us know what’s new but I prefer the classics with a touch of the unexpected mixed in. Beige and tan might be nice for a board room office or a home where the maid comes in everyday and touches up any messes or spills but I prefer oriental rugs, furniture with Queen Anne legs and maybe a mirrored chest piece for a surprise. Your posts are so nice it makes me want to move to Georgia, of course, I might be a little infuenced since my son is at Ft. Stewart! Thanks again for your uplifting posts.
May I just insert here: “Ditto”
Love ADAC. I actually was able to frequent there pretty often while in an assistant position with a local designer. Every time I visited, I was in awe of what was available. I still used the map every time. The great thing about design is trends do go and come but truly expressive design takes what is trendy that you really like and leaves the rest. Making trendy lovely by putting your own spin on it.
My, my, my, as my Grandmother would say. I really hope that these rooms are NOT the rooms of the future!
Love your den, especially the coral chair.
geez…waddaya know…not a CHEVRON in sight…………………………
