A Game Day Condo

It’s Fall and football in Alabama is serious business. Just ask anyone in this state who they are pulling for and you will quickly hear which side they are on. It’s either Alabama or Auburn and there is not a lot of in-between. Alabamians love their football and I quickly found out how much when we moved over here almost 3 years ago. My hubby….he is a Tide fan through and through. There are many mixed marriages in Alabama, I’ve found out.

Meet my friend, Lynn, and her son, Barrett. Lynn is my friend who has the monogram business (and who did all my fabulous monograms!) and I helped her put together all the fabrics for their game-day condo at Auburn University. Their youngest son, Barrett, signed with Auburn as a quarterback and is a freshman this year. Needless to say, they will be spending lots of time at Auburn this football season, even though Barrett is red-shirted this year (which means he won’t be playing in the games), but will be doing plenty of practicing. They’re excited about their new space.
I had no idea what a game-day condo was until Lynn told me. I’ve been out of the loop on college football, so this was all new to me. Here are a few before pics so you can see how bland the space was.
This condo is really a studio and the first thing they did was take out this little wall which separated the space. Since it’s not going to be lived in full-time, they put in a daybed and opened the room up more. Lynn and I went fabric shopping and I helped her pull it all together. She had already picked out a cream sofa and a contemporary chair with a geometric pattern, so that was our starting point.
This is the BEFORE on the cabinets. They painted them all white. Lynn wanted to bring in orange (of course!) to the condo, but do it tastefully. I think she succeeded in doing just that.
AFTER: The condo got new flooring, paint on the walls, and all new furniture brought in. All the fabrics really pulled it together and I was so happy to see the pics of how it turned out. We found the rug at Homegoods and both lamps were on clearance from there too. Lynn made the drapes and pillows. We found a really neat contemporary oil painting at Homegoods that was mainly orange tones & it hangs over the sofa. Wish we had a photo of that.

The kitchen cabinets were painted white. See the cute little Aubie lamp she picked up? Their mascot is the tiger.
Just painting the cabinets made a big difference.
They put in recessed lighting too to really bring it up to date. This is the contemporary chair we worked the colors off of and that’s the daybed in the back under the windows.
A tiny space, but wow, does it look 100 times better.
Lynn even put some monogrammed towels in the bathroom, along with the shower curtain she made. I think it turned out fabulous. Hope you enjoyed going along to the game-day condo too!

You may see Barrett Trotter on TV one day throwing the winning touchdown for Auburn.

ATTN: Birmingham girls…I’m having a yardsale at my house on Saturday, October 11th, so if anyone wants to come, email me for directions. I’ll have some lamps, artwork, possibly bed linens, and misc. accessories, but no furniture. You’re welcome to stop by to see if I have any treasures you might want! It will start at 8 a.m.

Am I that dumb? You didn’t really say, so I’m going to assume a game-day condo is just that–a condo just for the game?? Regardless, it’s a fabulous before and after!! Amazing what a good decorating eye can do for such a place. It’s beautiful!

    Hi Rhoda

this is a great one, best of all, for me, is the makeover of the cupboards

the whole thing looks pretty amazing, it never ceases to amaze me what a makeover does, I think I could spend all day long looking at before and afters, I am addicted lol!

if only I could come to your yard sale, wouldn’t that be fun

Great use of the space (and painting the cabinets white was DEFINITELY her design touchdown ;-)!

Oh my…*I* want to go to your yard sale! Think NJ is too far? 😉
