Very pretty & finely stitched needlepoint picture, $1.00
All these linens were $10.00. There’s actually 7 pieces, but this collage repeated 2 of them. There’s a sampler, a yellow rose, and some other pretty vintage things. I don’t really collect these, but they were too pretty to pass up, so I’ll probably resell some of these items.
I’m seriously thinking about starting some sort of resale business, where I buy yardsale items, fix them up & resell them. I find so many great things, but simply cannot house them all at my home! I’m running out of space!!
I checked at a local antique mall for prices on their booth spaces. The smallest booth they had was $160 a month. I know several of my fellow bloggers have an internet business, Ebay business or an antique booth. I’d love to hear some feedback from all of you who do have businesses & let me know how you got started, what you do to sell things & how it’s working for you. I’m just mulling over some ideas, but would love some down-to-earth feedback from any of you who are doing this. I have sold some things on Ebay, but the shipping & packaging on larger, heavier items is really prohibitive on trying to sell small furniture items this way or items that are very fragile. So, I’d really like to do something….just not sure how to get it off the ground. I’m doing a small amount of decorating consulting & that’s just getting off the ground too & I’d love to do more of that, but it takes awhile to build a business & get your name out there. I would love to combine my decorating abilities with reselling yardsale items & make a go of that. Any ideas for me? I’d love any feedback from all of you fine women out there who are so creative & talented!

Lucky you, that cup is gorgeous! Hydrangeas are my favorite flowering shrub. Great yeardale finds as usual – the painting is my favorite.
Don’t have any advice on starting a business, since I don’t have one. But I think it’s a great idea and I can see you being very successful at it. You probably won’t be able to do this where you live, but I’ve always liked the idea of being open just one day or weekend a month and selling from an outbuilding on my property (shed/garage etc). It makes the whole thing an event for people to go to. Or how about at a place like the Classy Flea, where you have your space but you don’t actually have to be there every day?
Can’t wait to hear what people come up with. This is so exciting!

ummm…you definitely have the style and talent. Online is fine but mostly for smalls. I wish I had a place where I could have a booth. Would shut down my shop in a second 🙂 .
Could you have a sale at your house every so often? There are a number of ladies who do that and have built up a good customer base. If I were closer I would probably be your BEST customer LOL
I just subscribed to your blog so I can keep up with your wonderful posts. Amazing! I just came to the very same conclusion and will be starting to sell on eBay, as Magnolia Cottage, very soon. My son and DIL are going to teach me the ropes. All I’ve done on eBay so far, is buy. Now it’s time to start selling. Like you, I simply have too much for my own home and keep finding more and more treasures. xoxo

I think an online shop is a great idea. It’s obvious you have a good eye, and you’ve picked up some wonderful from yard sales.

Rhoda, your gift is just beautiful, and painted with one of my favorite patterns, too! Very, very pretty. I love your finds, too…especially the needlework sampler, and that acorn plate. Neat shape on that one.
That is funny that you mentioned having an antique booth, etc. My house is kind of full, too, but I love finding things at sales. M and I just priced booth space at a really nice mall with heavy traffic near us, but they’re full right now (one of the best ones in our MidTown area closed).
We have a friend in PA who uses eBay to sell rare collectibles and “smalls”, because you can hit a specific market that way, and uses a booth for larger and more common items. He has a lot of fun with it, and has done really well, too.
It’s too bad we don’t live closer to each other…we could share a booth (and costs) and have a lot of fun, too!
Rhoda, Funny you mentioned starting a small resale business. I stopped at an antiques barn that gets lots of traffic but they were closed. It’s an upscale kind of place, since it’s in Hershey. I think if you have a booth there you have to also work a couple days a month.
I will be retired soon and have been considering doing this too.
Please let us know what you decide……it sounds like fun and gives us a great excuse to yardsale when our houses are too full already! 😉
I think it would be a great idea to have a booth at an antique market. That is something I have considered doing, too. With such a great eye to beautiful things, I am sure you would do well. I would drive up to visit your booth.

I have a website where I sell fabric and linens. I works great for the non-breakable items.
For the furniture and heavier things, I looked into a booth at an antique mall, but didn’t want the large (175.00) monthly expense.
For me, the answer was a spot at an antique-only flea market.
Its a well known, first Sunday of the month, high traffic market and for only 60-70 dollars, I can set up for the day when I have accumulated enough stuff.
