A Rainy Yardsale

Rain was falling softly at first, then increased to a pretty steady pace, but I didn’t let that stop me from venturing out at 7 a.m. on Saturday morning to the Mt. Laurel yardsale. I look forward to this one every Spring and Fall and it doesn’t disappoint. There are always new sellers with lots of various things for sale and you never know what you’ll find.

I showed you a bit of Mt. Laurel last year. It’s a master planned community with Craftsmen-style bungalows, brick sidewalks, native landscaping, and stacked rock walls all around. It blends right into the countryside and that’s the whole idea for this community tucked away into the woods, off the beaten path. They have their own main street and little town square area and it’s a quaint, pretty place.
These pics aren’t the best, since the rain, she was a-fallin’, but you get the idea. I took my camera along again to show you what was out there. I’ll show you what I didn’t get, but thought was some pretty good buys.
This chair an ottoman was $25. Now, I sat in it & the cushion was a little squishy, I think it needed some spring work, but if you were in the market to overhaul something like this, it was a bargain. The fabric looked decent from a distance, but was quite a bit faded up close. Still, a good buy.
This pair of children’s beds were very cute. I didn’t get the price on them.

I think this chair was marked at $100. Pink and green anyone? You would have to have a special room for this one, but good lines on the chair.
Newly painted black mirror, with the tape still on was $15. Quite large too.
Set of French inspired prints were $7 each.
This 5×8′ antique Oriental rug was $100. It was in pretty good condition.
This girl had some nice things. This old sewing machine base with wood top was $20.

And this headboard was really cute for $20.
Lots of Fitz & Floyd collectibles too.
And a Pottery Barn kids bookshelf was $15 (I think).
Pretty little rocking chair was $15 or 20, can’t really remember. So, that’s what you missed.
Here’s what I bought:

Told you I would be collecting things to go with the black/white damask bedding from yardsales. This cute little black/white pillow (reversible, with lime green on one side was $2. See how nice it goes? I had already thought I might throw some lime green in that room for a little accent with the aqua blue.

This plate and napkin holder pair was $5. Perfect for outdoor entertaining.
I need another purse like a hole in the head, but I brought another one home…it’s leather by Harold’s and was $4. With fuschia lining, no less.
Two cute little T’s by Chico were $3 for both. Great casual shirts for fall.
Books were $1 each. I already have the Decorating one, so I’ll probably have a giveaway and one of my lucky readers will get it. Later! The Garden Style book is a nice hardcover.
Cute little monogram tray for $1, that will go to my niece, Lauren. I think this has to be from The Royal Standard, where I got my paper mache trashcan with the monogram. Those 2 chunky candlesticks were 50 cents each.
And last, a new pair of Ralph Lauren sandals for $4, chocolate brown with a small heel and very cute. I need another pair of shoes like I need a hole in the head too. Did I let that stop me?! NOPE. One of the things I need to do this Fall is clean out my closet…it’s on the list!

Did you enjoy the yardsale? I wish you all could have been with me…rain and all! Really, the rain chased away a lot of customers, but it didn’t stop me from the bargains.

I worked with my design friend, Mary, on another project last Friday. It was a lot of fun! Sorry I can’t share them with all of you too, but wanted to let you know what I’ve been up to. Thanks so much for all the wonderful comments on MY redesign. It is so much fun to be doing what I love to do!

Why didn’t they take the tape off the mirror? Strange. Anyway, great bargains. When the weather gets cooler here I plan to start garage sale shopping. I’m in the market for a new bench. I just know I NEED one for the foyer. I want to sit a Santa on it during the holidays. 🙂

Hi Rhoda, you found a lot of goodies. I would have loved to have that rocker and the sandals although I’m sure they weren’t a size 9. Deb

Sounds like a great yard sale. I have been even more inspired after reading your blog among many others to go out this weekend and look for some bargains, wish me luck. Please come take a look at my home tour and give me some suggestions. I really want to incorporate some agua and brown in my kitchen and would love your opinions.

Love the French prints, Monogram tray and chunky candlesticks! I need some of those!

Our garage sale season is winding down and for some reason there are no antique malls or flea markets or anything like that by my house…ergh! There used to be 2 antique stores in town, and then once a month an outdoor flea market on their property, but our twp bought the land and now it has been vacant for 4 years, so dumb!
