After the Holidays Winter Decor

What do you do when the holidays are over and all the sparkle and glowy lights of Christmas are packed away? I tend to go with a more simple approach and less feels like more to me. So I keep a few things from Christmas that make me happy, like candlelight glow and add a few green touches in the form of dried or faux branches to combat the dismal month of January. January is typically my least favorite month, so after the house is cleared of all  of our high impact Christmas decor, it’s time get cozy with the simplicity of the season. Come along and I’ll show you what I did this year.

We also got snow this week, so I’ll share a few pics of that below. Mark was really hoping for a big snow and this one was pretty good, although not as much as we have had in past years. That was fine with me! I don’t mind it for a couple of days, it’s pretty to look at. I’m glad it came this weekend instead of next, as we are heading on a Caribbean cruise next weekend with some couples from our church. That’s more my speed!

The tree is down and the living room is back to its normal feel, so I just added a pretty blue and white vase with winter branches and faux red berries for some cozy winter cheer. That’s all that’s needed in my opinion.

The foyer table gets just a little bit of glow with my grouping of pretty mercury glass candle holders and simple candlesticks with a green topiary. I’m not usually a minimalist here, but this year is even more stark. Spring is coming though!

I’ve really loved these pretty candle holders and even remote controlled candles inside are easy to maintain. My set is sold out at Pottery Barn, but there’s a pretty red set that’s on clearance. This glass garland is also on sale and gorgeous! I’m a mercury glass fan for a long time. And one more, these plaid dishes are so pretty and tempting!

I left the plaid placemats from Christmas and really simplified the center with this square wooden tray I’ve had for so long. A brass bowl with faux boxwood inside gives the feel of spring is coming. Those thriftstore brass deer I found a few years ago pull double duty at Christmas and now.

The candle glow at night is so pretty and peaceful.

I added the dried magnolia branches to a blue and white vase.

A simple mantel is all I’m in the mood for and this will carry me to spring. Meanwhile, as many of you in the Southeast experienced, we got snow on Friday! Snow days are fun and we stayed in Friday and Saturday to enjoy this rare occasion in Georgia.

The streets were peaceful and mostly quiet with a few kids outside playing. It was a rather nasty snow with sleet/rain coming down most of the day.

No playing in the snow for me. I’d rather look from inside the house.

The woods sure were pretty though. We saw a herd of deer first thing Friday morning when we got up and opened the blinds to this. I’m sure they were looking for breakfast and we see them quite often in our woods.
