There are so many products out there these days that can enhance and add so much appeal to the average home and today I’m sharing one of those products. I haven’t used this one yet, but you can bet I’d consider it if I had a good spot for these. So many homes like mine have absolutely zero extra in millwork and moldings, but there are things in the marketplace now that can really help with style and adding those architectural details that might be missing.
Dark wood beams have been around for centuries for a reason and they really do add a dramatic look to a room.

There’s nothing prettier than rustic beams mixed with white woods, like this kitchen above. All the warm tones of the floor and the beams on the ceiling add another texture to this kitchen.
And this kitchen, by Amy Morris, here in Atlanta is another great example of incorporating this architectural detail into a kitchen design. Those beams and that big clock just make the kitchen.

I love how they add some warmth with wood in the above pic, with all whites and a little color. The ceiling just oozes warmth from those beams.
And this kitchen makeover is just so dramatic. Click over to see the dated 60’s kitchen that this was before they renovated, it’s really amazing. Those warm and rustic floors in addition to the wood beams on the white planked ceiling just makes this room pop. Such a beautiful renovation!
My friend, Traci at Beneath My Heart, used an exciting new product, from Arizona Faux Beams, to correct a problem in her master bathroom. They had that ugly pipe sticking down and didn’t want to lower the whole ceiling. So, what do you do to solve a problem like that?
Add faux beams! I really love how her project turned out and I would do it too if I had a great spot for them.
They also offer hardware (beam straps) that can be used with the beams, like the pic above. I love that look!
Here’s are the particulars:
- They are made of polyurethane.
- They are made from the molds of actual wood beams.
- They do not split, crack, or dry out like real wood.
- They are super lightweight making them easy to ship and install.
- They are termite resistant.
- They can be painted or stained.
- They look exactly like real wood!
- They come in a variety of finishes, sizes, and styles.
Installation videos are available at the website, so check out how easy they are to install.
If you have an area that needs something special, you might be interested in these faux wood beams. They really make a statement on the ceiling, don’t they?

We put faux beams in our dining room and library and love them! They add so much charm and warmth to our rooms and really make a statement. I’m even considering adding beams to the living room after we finish off our fireplace with the stone.

Rhoda: every time I open your blog in Internet Explorer there is a big advertisement that blocks the left side of the page. Any suggestions for making it disappear?
Rhoda says
Becky, I have no idea! So sorry, those are supposed to not open unless clicked on. Can you try another browser?

I’ve always wondered about these. I live in a home that has/had no millwork or moldings. Thank you, Rhoda, for sharing the info. Great use in these interiors! So cool and beautiful!

I love the faux wood beams. I was a home builder for many years, and although I never used faux wood beams I do think they are an incredible product and wouldn’t hesitate to use them. One wonderful thing is that they are lighter in weight, making them easier to install and no weight issues on your ceilings. Love them. Thanks, Patty

I love beams and hope to incorporate them when I build. I really love the style of the first kitchen. I am not sure if we can buy faux beams in New Zealand or not, I will have to look into it.

I love how these beams give a cottage-feel to the home. I am always in love with giving the home an ancient feel and these beams just pass my taste. I have a question though. Aside from being aesthetically cool, are faux beams best in quality? Are they not prone to termite attacks? I’m just asking to be sure because I am planning on using them for my kitchen.
Rhoda says
HI, Maria, check out their website, but my guess is that they are termite proof, they are not real wood.

These faux beams look amazing. I was lucky enough to already have wood beams installed in my home and it is a feature I would like to have in any future home. The biggest question to consider is the difference in cost between the faux and real wood.
