If you’re coming by from Kelly’s Korner, welcome! Glad to have you here. Also, from Studio M’s Sign party, welcome to you too! The diningroom you’ll see peeking in from here has since been painted Antique White and you can see that in another post.
I’ve long admired those wall words that I’ve seen in other’s homes and across blogland, so when I was in Hobby Lobby recently and saw they had theirs on sale for 1/2 off, it was too good to resist ($15!), so I looked through all they had to offer and came up with this encouraging verse. I’ve always loved this and I thought it was the perfect sentiment for our home. Hubby loves it too!
After looking all around the livingroom, I placed it just over the big arched window coming in our front door and that seems to be the perfect spot for it.
The day was sunny and bright and it was a good time to just take some random shots of the foyer, living room, and into the kitchen, so I went snapping away. I don’t think I have a post with all of this main area in one place, so thought you all might enjoy seeing it all together. This is for all of you who love the details! Looking back towards the foyer, down the stairs which come in the front door of our split foyer home. In case anyone wants to know the wall color, it is Whole Wheat by Sherwin Williams and I have really enjoyed it. No plans to change it in the near future.
Lots of sunshine streams in through all the windows and I love it on days like this. I’ve tweaked my living room just a bit, so you might see a few changes. I had some dried florals on either side of the fireplace that I took down. I’m liking the sparer look (even though I’m far from a minimalist!).
The living room. This is a good picture that shows what floating your furniture looks like. If you have the space in a room, it looks so much better to bring all the furniture into a grouping around the fireplace like this and leave paths open behind for walking.
Fireplace mantel, with the cleaner look. I added back these glass sconces I’ve had for years, but still like. These are brass and I painted them to make them look old and worn and they have crackled glass. The 3 pears are one of my favorite things.
Looking from dining room out to the foyer. You will see a new color in here VERY soon. Work is already in progress this week in the dining room. And I think the new, lighter paint color has been decided.
Across the livingroom towards hubby’s office and another bedroom.
Back to the living room and sofa. See that black vase behind the sofa? It has real cotton in it! I stopped one day last fall out in the country and snipped off some cotton plants that were blooming, so you can see cotton is still grown in AL!
End table
Amaryllis blooming even larger now.
Looking back towards foyer.
My decorating books stacked on the end table and behind the chairs, there’s my $25 oil painting found at a yardsale (not the frame, just the painting). I find some pretty awesome things out there.
Peeking into the kitchen.
Towards dining room.
Another look at the dining room.
Linden Street console table and antique mirror. I’m thinking about painting these 2 chairs a fun color.
Antique mirror which I’ve had for over 20 years.
Top of mirror with some treasures.
Mom made this valance for me several years ago. The silk fabric came from a yardsale. I still love this and this one single window was a good place to put it.
There’s this little area behind the railing that needed something, so I added a column and finial that I painted that came from House Parts in Atlanta.
Mirror reflection of foyer and dining room.
The foyer table that gets changed around a lot.
Plants in the foyer.
Looking out the mirror in the diningroom. I like how all these spaces connect to each other.
Looking from dining room into kitchen.
We don’t have a huge kitchen, but it’s functional. I’m really excited, as I think I might finally be able to change out my countertops this year. We have tumbled marble tiles now with large grout lines that get dirty and I have not liked them at all. They are pretty, but not functional. I want to keep the backsplash, but change out the countertops and sink.
My antique French cupboard in the kitchen. I love this piece. Someone asked about the kitchen wall color. Should have included that too. It’s by Laura Ashley (from Lowes) and is Olive 4. I had it in my old kitchen and loved it so much, I brought it over here too.
And that rounds out our upstairs main living area. Hope you enjoyed the tour!
I’m ready for Blissdom 09 in Nashville. Leaving early on Friday morning and will be driving back on Sunday. See you soon with lots of fun details and you can be sure, many pics! I won’t be posting again until I return. Hope you all have a great weekend too!

Rhoda, your home is just incredible! I love the red curtains in your kitchen area. I have a similar wall color, I wonder how something like that would look at my home.
