August Thrifty Treasures

By the time you will be reading this post, I’ll have landed back in Georgia from my whirlwind trip to CA.  I’m sure I’ll be exhausted for a couple of days, but while I’m getting my body back on Georgia time, I have to scream the news!

I WON THE KNORR 4 COOK-OFF!!

Woooo to the Hooooo, this girl is so excited about the opportunity to represent Knorr in this very fun contest.  Myself and 3 others were chosen in the final round to be ambassadors for Knorr, so you will be seeing and hearing more about their products around here in the coming months.

One of the judges and celebrity world-renowned Chef, Marco Pierre White from England told me that he loved my dish and what a good choice it was for me to present.  Talk about excited.  I was!  🙂  The first thing I did was call my mom to tell her that HER recipe won.  She was so excited too, so this is a family victory.

I have SO much to share and as soon as I can do that, i certainly will!

In the meantime, let’s look at some of the fab finds from last week’s par-tay!

Talk about a steal!  Kiwi in Texas scored big time on this Bernhardt sofa from Craigslist for $80.  I love the lines.  Bernhardt is a great brand, I have one myself.

For just $10, Cleverly Inspired scored this cute little side table.  It had seen better days, so she opted to paint it and it really turned out nice.

I’ve always had a thing for chairs and I see that Lovely, Etc. does too.  She picked up these 3 strays at the thriftstore and aren’t they cute?

Wow, does this old Royal bring back some memories!  We had one of these growing up in my family, just like this.  House of Hawthornes found this one at an estate sale and it was made in 1925.   Raise your hand if you learned to type on a manual typewriter.  My hand is high in the air!!

You’ll have to click over to 4 The Love of Wood to see how this dresser got a facelift with repurposed legs.  Talk about reinventing, this piece got the treatment.

Our Lake Life searched on Ebay for the perfect treasure to spray paint this glorious shade of blue.  Loving that pop of color!

For a mere $35, A Big Story, picked up this beautiful set of silverplate serving pieces.  Beautiful on a sideboard.

There are a TON of parties out there to highlight all your projects, so please let’s keep this one about thrifty finds that were bought 2nd hand! Not a great sale from the store, or a recipe, or just a plain project, but 2nd Hand finds only!

And please DO NOT go back in your archives to OLD posts and link up. Let’s keep this party fresh and current! If you have already shared your find in a previous party, DON’T share it again! Please, girls, I don’t want to have to delete links.

  1. Add your permalink to the link list, which is the actual post that you did for this party, NOT your general blog url. To get the actual post, after you publish the post, just click on the title and THAT will be your party post url. PLEASE try to get the correct url in the first time! :)
  2. Please add my button to your post or blog OR at least link back to this post in your post. That’s all I ask. It’s common courtesy to link back to the person having the party, so that all of your readers can find it too.
  3. Please do NOT link to an Etsy shop or something similar (even if you think it’s a fabulous deal) or I will delete the link. This party is for sharing thrifty finds from yardsales, thriftstores, or something along those lines. If I see that your post is not really on track with this theme AND you don’t link back, I’ll delete your link. Sorry, but I’d like to keep the party consistent! IF YOU SEE THAT YOUR LINK HAS BEEN DELETED, IT IS PROBABLY BECAUSE IT IS NOT IN LINE WITH THIS PARTY THEME.

Thank you for featuring my great silver service I bought! I just love it! And how exciting for you to win the cook-off. I had no doubt when I read you were doing chicken and dumplings that you would be the winner. Really, who can resist that comfort food? And, you have made me a believer in Knorr. I have not used the broth (although I have used other of their products.) As soon as the weather here is not 111 degrees (!!!!) I will make my dumplins’ and try out the product. Again, congrats to you, and thanks for the feature. Lori L

Oh heck, I just whirled myself on by all those thirfty things or whatever they were? in this post cause I just had to get to the comments section as fast as I could to tell you I bout tinkled my undergarments when I read the news. Yes, YeS, YES!!! Ya know Rhoda, I really thought you would win. After checking out some of the other entries, I just felt like if you rolled those dumplins out thin enough the judges would be swayed our SOUTHERN way. But then again, stranger things have happened. Take for instance the Casey Anthony case. LOL!

My dumplins ain’t half bad…on a good day. But I do look forward to trying them your way…or I guess I should say your momma’s winning way……with that Knorr spin put on them.

    Congratulations Rhoda and IRIS!!!

YEAH!! I am SO excited for you. What a wonderful ambassador you will be for Knorr. Like everyone I know, I use their dried soup mix to make spinach dip. My “secret” is to use the dry leek soup instead of vegetable soup mix. I look forward to learning other uses for their products.

Rhoda, Congratulations to you and your Mom!! I’m so happy you won and it was your Mom’s recipe that recieved the honor. Knorr makes a great product so you will be a great promoter for them. Looking forward to seeing more posts about your trip. Mary

Woo to the Hoo! Congratulations and I know you will be the BEST ambassador.

Hand in air – not only did we have a manual at home, one of my first typewriters at a sales job (typing up a ton of invoices daily) in the 80s was an ANTIQUE manual typewriter.
What I wouldn’t give to have it today, but back then, including reinking ribbons… no wonder my typing speed never increased.

    Had trouble linking up today.
