Catch, Clean, Cook, Consume

I still have more to share on my visit to Port St. Joe. Never been much for fishing, but it really was a treat this time to actually follow through the process of catching your own and eating it the same day! How’s that for fresh seafood?

Out on the boat, Spanish Mackerel was the catch of the day.  We caught enough for lunch for the 3 of us and man, was it good.

While out on the boat, we got to see a fun playful display of dolphins swimming about, enjoying their day.   We must have seen a dozen of them gliding through the water.  They are beautiful creatures.

Back at the marina, Vic’s hubby and one of his fisherman friends got busy cleaning  and filleting the fish.  It’s a bloody proposition, but the end results are worth it.

Beautiful fillets, ready to be deep fried.

Vicki and I enjoyed some down time, waiting on the fish to be cleaned, so we could gobble up our lunch.

Seagulls are always hanging out at the marina, hoping for a morsel themselves.   Seagulls are so cute!

Waiting for this was totally worth it!  Is there anything better than freshly fried seafood?  Not in my book, this has been a treat my whole life and I can tell you one thing, catching it fresh and eating it the same day is heavenly.  It was SO tasty!

Just to burn off a few calories after that delicious meal, we went off for a nice long bike ride.  That was heavenly too.

I hope you enjoyed coming along with me on my vacation as much as I did. I’ve got one more post from Port St. Joe, a private garden tour that we had the pleasure of visiting.  It will be up soon!

Have you ever caught your own fish and eaten it the same day?  First time for me, but I hope it’s not the last.

The very blessed winner of the Lisa Leonard $75 jewelry giveaway is #77: Melanie, who said this:

I love almost everything on her site- her stuff is stunning, it would be so hard to choose. I love, love the open circle necklace, the itty bitty heart necklace, and the molded heart necklace. I’d be happy with just one though. 😉 thank you!

Congrats, Melanie, I’ve emailed you already!

And the winner of the Seattle’s Best Coffee $100 giveaway #2 is:  Patricia Lightner, who I’ve emailed also!

I’ve never been to St. Joe, but I’m definitely going to add it to my list. I would love to catch my own lunch! We are off to Hilton Head in June, can’t wait!!

    Hi Rhoda
What a great trip you had. I love that you caught your fish and had it prepared and fresh for eating like that. Wonderful.
It looks like such a fun time, beautiful weather and beautiful scenery. Thank you for sharing!

Enjoyed your story and photos. Yes, I have caught, cleaned, cooked and eaten my own fish. Once, many years ago. It was such an exciting event that when I returned to school in September and my fourth grade teacher asked us to write about our summer, my essay title was something like your post’s title today.

    Thanks for the memory.

I love the beach, but I’m not interested in fishing. I don’t even want to eat any. I just love looking at the ocean and hearing the waves.
I’m so excited about winning. Thanks for giving me the opportunity.

What a wonderful day it looks like you had. You look wonderful by the way! Your lunch looks so good. I am hungry for fresh fish now. I may have to kick my hubby out of the house with his fishing gear really soon!

I have had that pleasure….back when the children were little we would catch pan fish to take home to clean and fry. Now that my children are adults they continue to fish and can clean them themselves so I really enjoy it.
ps. thanks for mentioning the bike ride-you motivated me to take mine out today!

    Rhoda,

I’ve been surf, deep sea and fresh water fishing. (I gave up on the last after casting my line in the trees across the river once too many times.) Good friends, good weather, good food = good time. Doesn’t get better than that!

    Your Friend,
    Deborah

Rhoda, I’m not happy with you right now! It’s just not nice showing that fresh fish and all the trimmings to a girl that lives in northern OK! I want some and have no way of getting anything close to it!

I’m seriously glad that you are enjoying the beach and your friends…ok, and even the fresh fish 😉

Have a great day and keep sending the great pics, MG
