{Giveaway is Closed}
I feel so very blessed to be a blogger and have all these great products at my fingertips to try out. Chalk paint is one of those products that I’ve had on my wish list for a few months. Since I don’t have a lot of furniture that I’m painting at the moment (why put one more thing in storage!?), I haven’t had the chance with all my moving this year to try it out. But, oh how I’ve loved seeing the chalk paint craze that has swept across the blogosphere.
Everyone’s talking about it! Have you heard the news about chalk paint?
Apparently, it is a very fun paint product direct from Annie Sloan paint factory in England. That’s where it started and now there are stockists of chalk paint all over the U.S. One of them is Kelly with Stylish Patina and she asked me to try out the paint and do a giveaway for her, so of course I said a big fat YES to that! I have been dying to get my hands on a quart of chalk paint.
Now, mind you it is not cheap. At $35 a quart, it is quite pricey, but from what I have heard it is totally worth it and now I do believe I can concur with that. You do not have to use a primer with this paint. It distresses and waxes like a charm and leaves a beautiful chalky finish with a patina of old wood once it is waxed properly.
So, with that in mind, after my 2 quarts of chalk paint arrived, I had to try out the Old White on my sister’s gold curtain rods in her bedroom makeover. We decided to let some of the gold shine through, but wanted to make the rods more neutral for the new colors in her bedroom. The Old White was perfect for that!
With their house in disarray from the wood floors being finished, this is the makeshift kitchen island we worked on for our project. Thankfully, the house is almost back together now!
These are nice reeded wood curtain rods with pretty finials. The gold is fine and actually did you know gold and brass are making a huge comeback again? Yep, they are! I still have plenty of gold toned accessories left in my collection and the rooms I’m seeing done with gold accents are very elegant. Never say never in decorating! I still don’t love shiny brass light fixtures though. 🙂
OK, so onward with the chalk paint.
Old White is a pretty creamy white, perfect when you just want a white that is not too white. I used the chip brushes that were sent with my products and it worked just great. The thing with this product is it doesn’t have to be precise. A little paint covers a lot. We just slapped it on and worked it into the rods, leaving some of the gold to shine through.
This looks like it is covered heavily. I had to remind my sis not to cover all the grooves. It was an easy and fast project to do and we were done in about an hour.
In progress.
Here they are all finished. We made sure to paint the brackets too, as well as the new rings that she bought. They were white-white and needed to be toned down, so Annie Sloan chalk paint was brushed on those as well.
See the weathered look they have just from one coat of this chalk paint. Not perfect, but it doesn’t need to be. Distressed is what we were going for. I didn’t use the wax on these, since they will just be hanging up high and not seen up close.
Here they are hanging with the new linen drapes. Oh, I can’t wait to show you how this room is looking now!! We are making huge progress and I hope it will be finished in a couple of weeks.
Annie Sloan chalk paint was so fun to work with and I would highly recommend it for furniture projects. You can see plenty of bloggers all over blogland using this paint to update old pieces of furniture. I also got a quart of Duck Egg Blue and can’t wait to try it out.
So, here’s the fun part for YOU!
Kelly from Stylish Patina is my go-to girl now for chalk paint. She sent me 2 quarts, as well as wax and brushes to try out and I am set now for some Annie Sloan chalk paint projects.
Kelly is offering ONE of my readers a $75 gift certificate to her shop, Stylish Patina, where you can try out whatever products your little heart desires.
How exciting is that??? I know, I would be jumping up and down too!
Here’s how to win:
- Click over to Kelly’s shop, Stylish Patina and tell me your fave Annie Sloan chalk paint color? Be forewarned, there are some beautiful colors. I’ve got several more in mind that I’d love to try out.
- Tweet about the giveaway and come back here and leave another comment with the Twitter url.
That’s it!! I’ll choose a random winner in a few days.
{Note: I did not receive monetary compensation for this giveaway. I received 2 quarts of paint, brushes and wax to try out the products for myself.}
