Checking out Southern Accents

I’ve  never been to Southern Accents in Cullman, AL, but sure have heard a lot about it from some of my blog friends.  I’m about to remedy that with a drive up there to check it out myself….today, in fact!  I’m meeting up with a new blog friend, Myra, who lives up that way and we are going to see it for ourselves.

I mentioned a shelf project that I’ve got up my sleeve for above my sideboard in the dining room, to hopefully give me more storage space.  To get that accomplished, I need to find some cool corbels or iron pieces and maybe some reclaimed wood for shelving.  Southern Accents just might be the place to find it all.  They even have a Facebook page.

These are pretty neat too.  I hope to find what I need to get this project rolling.  Of course, I’ll keep you all posted about it too.

Have any of you been to Southern Accents in Cullman?

What did you think?!

Don’t forget to vote today!  And come back later this afternoon for new pics of my kitchen updates.

We went there last fall on our trip to Cullman and Decatur…I think I have some pics on my blog of that place. It’s pretty overwhelming but I thought very pricey! You might luck up and find what you’re looking for though. The town of Cullman is really very pretty so be sure to drive around looking at some of the homes if you get a chance. I think we’re going back that way in two weeks for another get away.

I love this store! They have some wonderful things in it…the down side is they are VERY proud of their stuff & apparently want to hang onto it because their prices are HIGH! They have a few things that are okay priced…they are just few & far between. Like the previous poster said, it is overwhelming! I don’t want to burst your bubble, just wanted to say prepare yourself. However there is one guy in there (one of the sons I believe), that is some great eye candy & helped me look!
I love walking around in the old shops in downtown Cullman, they have some wonderful stores. Better than Before is a great consignment shop & there is a coffee house (I think right down from Southern Accents or maybe it was next to a childrens boutique…ask someone it is the only coffee house there) that has the best coffee…Milky Way (I think that was the name) was to die for!

I live too far away to visit the store, but I am hoping you bring back some photos and I hope you find what you are looking for.

I love wandering through Southern Accents. They are high on their prices for some things but you can find a bargain if you look long enough. My mother got some pretty wood accent pieces that she has over her door in the entry and I have several as well hanging in my house. I got some neat multi-paine glass cabinet doors to use as the tops for side tables there and those were a great price. Hope you find something you love for your project!

I loved it! We stopped on our way home from Nashville last year and wandered around for a while. I was so inspired by what all I saw when I walked through, but like the others I didn’t buy anything. I am dead set on DIYing something like this for my house, though! http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3360/4607593281_2a496d3161_z.jpg I think my husband could make something like this very easily and I could paint it/ distress it. It’s on my neverending to-do list. LOL That alone was worth the trip!

Have you checked out ebay? I found some really nice ones for a steal on there. They weren’t antique but painted to look it and at a great price.

I LOVE this place!! I just love to wander through all the rooms drooling on all the great pieces they have. My boys both enjoy cool old stuff like this too, so it’s great when we can take a day and just enjoy!

I absolutely love Southern Accents! I live in Birmingham and go up there almost once a month. The guys that work there….yes, “eye-candy”, are so knowledgeable and helpful. I usually can do a little negotiating with them and get a better deal. I guess it depends on what I’m looking for and how bad I “need” it! (wink)
