ince having that recipe party a few weeks ago, I have tried out some new recipes that I found from it and this is one of them. You’ll have to go over to my new friend, Beth’s blog, Stories of A to Z to get this fabulous recipe for Chicken Alouette. She promised me I would love it and she was right!
She’s got all the details listed and it really is a great dish and very easy to put together. Now, I emailed Beth and confessed this to her. Instead of picking up puff pastry dough like I was supposed to, I opted for the Phyllo pastry sheets, thinking they were pretty close (and they were cheaper).
Wrongo!
The last time I used Phyllo sheets, I swore I would never do it again and it’s probably been about 15 years since I tried it. Luckily, they have improved the stuff and it wasn’t bad to work with, just looked funky.:) If you get Phyllo sheets, you will swear it’s real paper when you first take them out of the package. They are some strange things, for sure. But, with chicken and cream cheese spread inside, they turn out pretty wonderful. Go and look at Beth’s pics, her’s are much prettier than mine.
So, these lumps above are not all that attractive, but they really did taste good, so I guess that’s all that matters. These are SO easy to put together. The biggest expense is buying that Alouette spread, which is a little pricey, but other than that, it’s a great dish for company or to put on the regular meal rotation.
My hubby loved it and we had extra left over for later, which we devoured. If you’re looking for something new to do with chicken, try this one! This reminded me of something I would get at La Madeleine restaurant, a little French.
Added to Jen’s Tasty Tuesday.
That looks good !
It does look good! Everyone of those Alouette Cheese cups is delicious! They have a flavor called “Berries and Cream” that they bring out for the holidays and it is just starting to show up in the stores around here. Now I wouldn’t put it in this recipe but it is divine on a bagel!!
Thanks for trying it Rhoda (and for the shout-out :). If you don’t want the expense of Alouette, herbed cream cheese works equally as well. And I’m now inspired to try this recipe with phyllo dough!
I think it still looks good, Rhoda! I had printed this recipe out too, when Beth posted it. I just sounds so good! I think this will be a good one to try out this weekend.
Well, Rhoda, I think it looks delicious! {I’m southern girl that just yesterday mixed her leftover beans and greens in the same bowl…I’m all about the taste, hehe!} Wish I could have some of your lovely dish right now!
My mouth is watering for these at 7am. 🙂
Thanks for sharing the recipe – it sounds wonderful!!
It looks delish! I havent’ used phyllo in so long. I think I was traumatized that last time I used it! I’ll have to check out that recipe.
