Coffee Table Revamp & Kilz Primer Giveaway

{Giveaway is Closed}

I’ve been helping my friend, Vicki, with a few updates around her house and first up is that coffee table that we found down in Port St. Joe for the sweet price of $22.  I noted that it was a solid wood table and would look great painted creamy white, so Vicki bought it and hauled it home.

It was a perfect candidate for a makeover.  That blah wood was begging for a revamp and Vicki wanted to go in a creamy white cottage direction with this table with potential.

We used the same Kilz Clean Start that I used on the porch walls and gave this table a fresh coat, getting it ready for 2 coats of creamy white. The fine folks at Kilz contacted me awhile ago and offered to send me a gallon of their Clean Start primer, so I of course, said YES!

We got a sample quart of Sherwin Williams Antique White to use as the main color.

After a coat of primer and 1 coat of Antique White, she looks like a new table already.painting and distressing a coffee table

After 2 coats, we were ready to start sanding back the edges for a distressed look. painting and distressing a coffee table

I didn’t have my electric sander with me and we ran out of sandpaper, but managed to get some of it done.  painting and distressing a coffee table

It’s a really cute table now and will be perfect for her family room.  I’ll show you more in there as we get moving along on it.  Not bad for $22 and some paint!

Here’s some fun news too for ONE of you!  Kilz offered to give away to one of my readers, a gallon of Kilz Clean Start of your very own to try out.  What can you do with a gallon of Kilz?  This stuff is great for walls or furniture, so the sky’s the limit.

All you have to do is leave a comment here on this post, telling me just what project you’d like to try out with Kilz Clean Start?

I’ll choose a winner in a few days and you will receive your very own gallon of primer.  You gotta love that!  Thanks, Kilz!

I would use the Kilz on my Guest Room walls and furniture. I didn’t mean to have so many green rooms in my house ( it just happened) and the Guest Room seems like the best place to put in a different color. The furniture in there has already been painted once but I plan to paint it again so I’m sure the Kilz would be really helpful for that project.

Rhoda thank you so much for sharing your project using the Kilz Clean Start. I certainly would love to win a gallon! I have been wanting to paint an old cherry finish table and chairs and even if I dont win I will sure give the Kilz Clean Start a try. I had no idea it would be this simple to do. I kept putting it off because I didnt want to have to do so much sanding.

I do have a question though. Would you need to apply wax or a sealer after painting the final 2 coats?

I’d use it to update a horridly disgusting desk I found stashed in the basement storage room so I can use it as a family command center!

I found an antique bedside table at Goodwill the other day for $8 – a GREAT find! I can’t wait to paint it to go along with my antique bedroom furniture for my guest bed.

I have three projects on the back burner that I would LOVE to have some free fresh start KILZ primer for…. a $15 coffee table find, turning the current coffee table into a chalkboard sign (after detaching the legs), and an unfinished pine sewing table that needs to be painted so I have no excuses to not get out my sewing machine! Thanks 🙂

I would love to win this! I have several projects that I could use it on-my kitchen table and chairs, a rocking chair badly in need of paint and a bookcase! I hope to get all three projects completed this summer, but even one would be great. 🙂 thanks for the chance to win.

I so have a coffee table I need to paint. It has had drinks spilled on it. It’s awful. I’m embarrassed to even let people see it. That table looks great. I needed this idea!

I would love to have this primer and how wonderful for you to be helping your friend with her improvement projects. Do we sand before or after the primer or not at all?

I have a kitchen table that could use some ravamping and this primer would be perfect! The table you re-did looks great with the sanding you were able to do before you ran out of paper!

I would love to paint not two, but THREE chairs I have waiting on a fresh coat of paint!! I love Kilz and have been thinking long a hard about using it as a tinted top coat instead of latex because of it’s texture! Especially after the great debate over at Centsational Girl recently!

What would I use the Kilz primer on well, let me see…I am in the process of painting the trim throughout my home (and 1/2 way through my current can of primer)…up next I have a hutch, side board, kitchen table and 6 chairs…so I think I could put that Kilz to very good use!
