Craft Room Update and $100 Lowes Giveaway

{Giveaway is Closed}

The Winner is:  #208  Lorene Halfmann

January is an excellent time to be thinking about organization and it happens every year after Christmas.  We all start thinking of ways to declutter and get everything in the house in tip-top shape.

You saw the pretty stencil yesterday and today, I’m going to show you the mostly finished room. The wall really does add a soft and subtle backdrop to the furniture in the space.  My sister has been shopping on Craigslist, Home Decorators Collection, and with my new collaboration with Lowes, I was able to spend $100 Lowes card on helping her get this space organized.

Oh, what fun!  Just for reference, the wall color is the same SW Comfort Gray that we used in her master bath.

Craft room in basement

Come along and I’ll show you where we are.  We were hoping to get this table and chairs painted, but we didn’t get that finished yet.  The table and chairs are a Craigslist find for $100.   We are planning to paint it a fun Barcelona Orange color in Annie Sloan Chalkpaint.   Won’t that be happy down here?

Crafting room with storage

You can see how big the space is in their basement.  Really a nice room to use for this.  That’s my black bookcase and chair to the right.

Table and chairs craftroom

Rug was ordered online.

Craft room organized

That’s my brown leather sofa too that she is keeping safe for me. Those mirrored closet doors hold all her stacked Christmas bins neatly away.  She has so much great storage at her house.

chevron rug craft room

And she’s keeping my island for me too.  Lauren painted that cute fleur-de-lis painting.

crafting area

Here are the really fun organizing pieces she added.  The Martha Stewart piece on the left came from Home Decorator’s Collection and she is going to enjoy using that for her wrapping paper and ribbon.   The cute cube storage is what we found at Lowes.  It came in a box and we put it all together ourselves.  It was a bit like Lucy and Ethel do Tool Time, but we made it through.  Those fabric storage drawers are great for hiding the clutter and they came from Lowes as well.

baskets under cabinet

We also found these pretty rattan baskets at Lowes and they are another great option for hiding the clutter.  Pretty and functional, you gotta love that!  Check out Lowes Creative Ideas website for lots of great ideas.

Martha Stewart crafting station

She’s going to really have fun with all this organization at her fingertips.

white bookcase craftroom

She also found that pretty bookcase on Craigslist for $75.  That’s a deal, I love it.

So, are you doing some organization yourself this month?  Did you feel the unmistakable pull of de-cluttering like everyone does this month?  It seems that the first of the year is the optimal time to start the year off right and start putting “stuff” in its place.

If you are ready to organize and declutter, now’s a great time for YOU to get in on the fun too. Lowes is offering a $100 giftcard for one of you to spend at your local Lowes store.  You can grab whatever your heart desires!

Follow Lowes on their Facebook page too!

All you have to do is leave a comment and tell me what you “think” you might buy if you are the fortunate winner of this $100 giftcard?

  1. Leave one comment for an entry.
  2. Tweet about the giveaway and come back and leave another comment with your Tweet url for a 2nd entry.

I’ll choose a winner in a few days!

{I am partnered with Lowes Creative Ideas blog team to do DIY projects and share them on my blog.  I was given a $100 giftcard to purchase products from Lowes.}

I would buy paint for my kitchen/dining room and with money left over maybe a wooden dryrack for all those clothes that get slung over the dining room chair 🙂

  3. Hmmmm, what would I buy at Lowe’s??? LIGHTING! I need something to replace the flourescent light in my kitchen. Love your blog! ~ Pam

  4. I recently signed up for ‘My Lowes’ and am liking that. $100 for me would go toward paint and plants for the yard. Thanks for the opportunity and I love the craft/wrapping area for your sister.

  5. I would buy some pretty plants for the yard this spring or some supplies for my hubby to build a entryway mudroom.

  6. Well, thanks for asking what I would do, since today, a contractor is coming to give me an estimate on replacing a leaky tub in my only, tiny bathroom. That gift card would get spent in a New York minute! Hope I win, every little bit will help.
Love the basement, by the way.

  7. elizabeth normandin says:

  12. Dear Rhoda:
I LOVE your blog! If I were fortunate enough to win a $100.00 Lowe’s gift card, I would definitely put it towards a cube storage unit. I have wanted one of these for quite some time. My four children are older now, and their little ponies/hot wheels cars have been replaced by ipods, keys, work badges, mail, etc. which find their way onto the kitchen table. I’d love a cubby storage unit to give each of them a drawer for their suff. Thanks!!

  13. I would buy lighting.

  19. Wow, she has a big, beautiful room!

It’s not fancy, but I’d spend the $100 on oil based primer and paint — I’ve got some panelling that really would be happier white. 🙂

    Thanks for the chance!

  20. Love the wrapping paper organizer! What would I buy……either lighting or paint or ceiling fan. There are many projects around this place that $100 would be useful for. Great job on the room Rhoda!

  146. I’m not going to lie. I’d probably save it and use it when we get a house of our own! I’m hoping that it’ll be this year! And, I know we’ll have to fix up a few things. 😀

Thank you for a chance to win!

  147. Patti Sanders says:

I would get some paint for my guest bath. I work at school and love to use my snow days to paint. I haven’t had one this year but I like to be prepared. Then I would save some for spring planting. I love Lowe’s! Thanks, Rhoda!

  148. I need to repaint my living room!

  149. Great giveaway! I would definitely put it towards hardwood floors for our living room 🙂

  150. I would use it to help us buy a new front door. We live in an older home and the door is definitely not energy efficient. We have been putting money aside and received some Lowes gift cards for Christmas.

  151. I love to cook (and have a cake business on the side) and have a kitchen with no counter top space. It is depressing. Renovating the kitchen is not in the budget, but I have almost saved up enough to start building my own kitchen island that I have designed. The $100 would go towards paying for the counter top, the last hurdle! That would be very exciting, since sadly Birthday/Christmas for me are both in Dec and a long way away.

  152. Beautiful craft room! I’d use the gift card for plywood and trim needed to complete my own craft room : ) Thanks for the giveaway!!

  153. Tweet! Here’s hoping!

Thanks for the chance to win some great help!

  156. Plants – it’s not organizational but they do soothe my soul.

  157. I am going to buy a lamp . 🙂

  158. I am in the process of redoing the master closet. Most of the supplies for shelving, shoe racks, poles, paint, etc. have already been purchased. It looks so pretty already, but $100 at Lowes would replace a good portion of the hangers with the nice wooden ones. That would make the closet!

  159. Andrea Southworth says:

What a great opportunity! Thank you!

I do need new light fixtures for both mine and my husbands vanity area. Love your blog, and you are such an inspiration. Thanks for including me in your drawing.

  200. Oh, I don’t know anyone who wouldn’t love $100 to spend to help get organized. I know I sure would.

  218. I too have been on an organizing kick – I’ve already tackled my closet and pantry. Up this weekend is my laundry room. But with a$100 Lowe’s card I’d purchase a mirror I’ve been eyeing for over a year to put up in my spare bathroom. Currently it has a huge wall mirror that just doesn’t look right to me. To remove that mirror, we recently had a contractor tell us to put down a drop cloth and have fun with a hammer, since it was secured with basically black tar! The mirror has annoyed me since day one!

  219. Love how the room is coming together. Houses in Arizona don’t have basements, I sure wish they did! I do have an extra bedroom that needs de-cluttered and re-organized for my scrapbook/sewing/exercise room. I’d probably buy some sort of organizing furniture piece at Lowe’s if I won. but then again I could use some more painter’s cloth, paint and so many other things.
