My friend, Debbie and I go back many years, maybe close to 15 years now. She’s a dear friend of mine, a former school teacher, who retired from teaching and started her own business at home, Miss Lucy’s Monograms. That business has grown so much that her hubby and other staff members work hard to keep up with all the orders. It’s a total family business now. I’m so proud of her for finding another fun way to make a living and following her creative dreams. She’s been such a cheerleader for me and my blog and I treasure her friendship.
I was over there recently catching up, it’s been a busy year for both of us and we hadn’t caught up in awhile. We sat and chatted for over an hour and then I went into her small powder room that I’ve been in dozens of times over the years. It was done in pink and gold for a long time and a very cute space, but Debbie recently updated it with her beloved blue and white pottery pieces that she has collected over the years. She has one of the biggest blue and white collections I’ve seen ever and it shines in her house. She loves yellow too and keeps her yellow, blue and white scheme going no matter the trends that come along and it suits her house so well.
So, I gasped when I walked in this small powder room and saw the changes. I said to Debbie, I have to blog about this!! You traditional girls are going to love this. It’s a tiny jewel box of a room and it is just beautiful with the new look.
Debbie used beadboard wallpaper and she took it up really high on the walls, adding a pretty molding around the top. You’ll notice this space has a nice chunky crown molding at the ceiling line too and she left the gold ceiling that she had done in here originally, which fits right in with the gold accents she added. Debbie buys her wallpaper at Lowes, but you can also get the Graham Brown beadboard wallpaper that I love at my online shop. Debbie said she got this blue and white print from an Etsy shop. Love it!
On the wall over the toilet, she added 3 chunky shelves from Ballard Designs. These are the same ones I have in my office. Love them! Notice she took the wallpaper all the way to the ceiling and crown molding and then painted the surrounding walls navy blue.  That really pops against all the white.
The gold metallic ceiling is a really nice detail as well, bringing out the gleam of the other gold objects on the shelves. She has a great collection of blue and whites.
Each shelf holds some special pieces and it all looks great together.
Basket on this shelf adds some texture to the space.
Opposite the shelves is the small vanity and mirror. The mirror was framed out in a chunky molding with an extra top piece for detail. Sticks in a large blue and white canister adds lots of visual and textural appeal too.
That large blue and white framed print is in the center of the wall when you open the door and draws you right in.
Those brass sconces are just the right touch in here too, she’s had them up here for a long time, but might have changed the shades.
Here you can see the chunky detail molding at the top of the mirror. She uses several sconces on the walls to hold special pieces on display, along with several blue and white plates.
A simple navy trellis rug anchors the floor. This is a tiny space, but is packed with lots of inspiration.
One more look at the ceiling and molding above the mirror. All of that adds such a punch to the room.
Don’t you just love this blue and white powder room that Debbie put together? I absolutely loved it and wanted to share it with all of you too. My friend, Debbie, is very talented and we have so much fun being creative together.
Wow, I love that! I’m always puzzled with finding pieces that are “appropriate” for the bathroom, and her bathroom is so inspiring!
So pretty!! LOVE the way she styled her shelves!!
I would have never thought of using pottery in a bathroom, but Debbie made it work BEAUTIFULLY! I could LIVE in that powder room–it’s so gorgeous! Such clever use of space and details. Thanks so much for sharing!
I LOVE THIS! I have a powder room just this size. Years ago, I wallpapered the walls and when I tried to remove the paper a few years ago, some of the drywall came with it. Right now, I have a textured paint on the walls and I hate it. I thought about beadboard, but most rooms I see, the beadboard only goes halfway up the wall. I need to cover more of the wall and this is perfect!! I love everything about this room. Thanks for posting this. My problem is solved!
Classic and classy. I love it!
Debbie is so so so talented. Love the new powder room!
I love curly willow in vases…..so pretty!
So beautifully and classically done…I love blue and white!….thanks for sharing her beautiful powder room!…I love Miss Lucy’s Monograms! Merry Christmas Rhoda!!!
Beautiful, just beautiful!!! You can never go wrong with blue and white…
Wow, wow, wow! This is just a delightful room to view. You picked a winner in showing this one and thanks so much for an inspirational room. Great ideas!!!
Great ideas & a beautiful powder room. Love the sconces & blue & white plates. Rhoda, I just put up beaded wallpaper on the lower walls of my two bathrooms. My husband added the crown molding & both rooms just look great! The paper was easy to install & I painted over it the next day after it was good & dry. Before applying the beaded wallpaper I had to remove some other wallpaper from both bathrooms which was easy because I had they were vinyl, strippable, prepasted wallpaper that I purchased years ago (the only kind to buy imo.) It left some of the backing after stripping off the vinyl but all I did was take a wet sponge, wet down the area & use a scraper. The paper came right off & in most instances all I did was peel it away from the wall. I did have to wipe down the walls several times to remove the paste but my walls were left smooth & took paint & the beaded wallpaper very well. Thanks for the great ideas. I just love your blog.
Tricia, I’m so glad to hear your wonderful experience with beadboard wallpaper. It’s the best trick!
Love it!!
Such a pretty little powder! Great use of blue and white!

Beautiful room. Love the blue and white…..Thanks for sharing.
That is SO beautiful and my favourite combo. You described it perfectly… a jewel of a room. You just helped me decide how to decorate my newly painted latticed solarium. Concerning the ceiling exhaust fan… I have often painted the covers to match the ceiling. That way they blend in instead of being a focal point. It’s so easy to do. I do the same with HVAC outlet grates.
So classic and beautiful! I love it! Thank you for sharing and Merry Christmas, Rhoda!
So pretty! I was lucky last month to find 2 gallons of Benjamin Moore paint that had been custom matched to SW’s Naval, the prettiest navy blue around. Snapped those up for $5 each and painted a wall in my boy’s room — but there is so much paint left over that I want to use it in the kids’ bathroom and our entry hall as well. Love these ideas. (Although with a 5YO boy in the mix I am not sure that I could use so much pretty china wherever he is — I’d have to hot glue it to anything it sat on or leaned against. 🙂
How beautiful! Thanks so much for sharing! I love all the detail!
