Decorating a Mantel

I have to start off by saying this.  TODAY IS MY BIRTHDAY!!  I had the best birthday of touring the Marietta Home Pilgrimage Christmas tour of homes today with my friend, Beth, and it couldn’t have been better.  A beautiful sunshine birthday!

I shared my mantel in last week’s post of my living room and white tree, but today, I’m going to break it down a little more and share how I put it all together.  I have decorated my mantel with garland many times over the years, so using that method is easy and tried and true.  You don’t need a lot of additional decorations when you have a pretty lighted garland and wreath, especially this Tree Classics Classic Fraser Fir Festive wreath with mixed textures and foliage and pine cones and berries.

It looks so festive and pretty, just like its name!

Here’s where I started. Right out of the box, the garland is flattened and needs help with fluffing and making it full.  Pulling the branches up and out makes it nice and lush and ready to hang.

005

The wreath is the same way, all smashed and flattened in the box.

006

But once fluffed, it’s ready to go.

004

Prepping takes longer than hanging does, but both steps are necessary.

There’s a battery box at the end of each garland and it’s easy to bend the garland into place.

I got all my garland fluffed and full and ready to install and enjoy.

I hung my wreath on the mirror with a clear suction cup wreath hanger. You can find those at most home stores and they have always worked well for me.  Adding a wreath on a mirror is perfect for the Holiday season.  I hadn’t quite taken Fall down here, but I couldn’t wait to see the wreath  up.

I stretched 2 garlands across my mantel and didn’t even have to secure them. They do have looped wires at each end in case you do and when I hung them on my porch, I did use the loops. I simply bent and twisted them where I wanted them to go and they stayed just fine on their own.  The battery boxes are in the middle below the mirror.

Then I simply added in my blue and white ginger jars and blue and white candlesticks to finish it off.

One more touch in the middle to hide the battery boxes, I added this pretty wooden cross art piece that is golden tones.  I draped a sparkly pinecone garland along the green garland for a little more sparkle.

And that’s how I decorated my mantel this year using lighted garland and a wreath from Tree Classics.  They do have beautiful things, so check them out for your Holiday needs.  This is their 40th anniversary year too, so they’ve been around for a long time.

Merry Christmas and happy decorating!

Best birthday wishes for a happy year. Are the garland and wreath artificial? They look too good to be anything but real but you mentioned fluffing and wires?

I put a few tiny red Christmas balls and some white mesh through my garland yesterday It turned out really pretty. I forgot where I ordered my garland (a couple of yrs ago) but it looks real. Yours is lovely!
