HI! LOVE LOVE all your ideas.. I have a question for you on the banister project. My banisters are all white painted. What do you suggest I do about redoing the tops since they are also white?? Not sure if the stain will work by itself?

Hi, Misty, you are right, the Polyshades wouldn’t work well over white painted wood. I would suggest you paint the railings black. My sister did that and it looks fantastic with stained wood floors.

Can you tell me the name of the color of the Glidden black paint you used on the bookshelf you redone? I can tell from the pic that you used a satin finish but can’t make out the color name.

BTW, I am really loving your blog. I found it last night looking for some DIY projects for black distressed furniture. Stayed up way too late last night reading it and have not wanted to put it down. You have really got my head spinning with ideas, since I am a DIY’fer my self. We moved in an older home a year ago this month. Just finished glazing the kitchen cabinets and tiling the back splash.

Also, way back in my mind thinking about the blogging idea.

    Thanks for your inspiration!

Hi, Julie, missed your comment earlier. Sorry but I don’t have the black paint color for that bookshelf, but any dark black paint would work. Just take a look at the stores & ask them what their most popular black is.

Hi Rhoda, your personal story was so inspiring ! Praising the Lord with you that he has and will continue to be with you through this journey called life . I am wanting to redo my dining room. Have my typical cherry “matchy” dining room set , my walls are salmon , treatments are pretty green silk hung with fennels. Did recover chairs with green animal print a few years ago to give a little pop !! Tired of matchy, want a table maybe bottom and chairs sort of deep yellow destressed, top stay a mohogany, maybe end chairs upholstered, mohogany buffet on legs , any suggestions ??? Thought about going to Scott’s market, what do you think and should I go Thurs. or Fri. ?? Tks., Blessings to you , Connie

Hi Rhoda! I stumbled across your blog because of Pinterest. I knew Pinterest was great for something other than an addiction! My coffee table just broke, and I loved the idea I saw on Pinterest of a window/door for a coffee table. Is that elsewhere on your blog? I didn’t see it! Thanks! Marti B.

I love your website! Before and afters are so helpful. Have you do done any work with prettying up old gray concrete patio slabs? Mine is in pretty good shape, just ugly. I’d rather not break it up and haul it.
    Thanks!

Hi there I love your website and your ideas. I’m so impressed your dad did a lot of jobs. I’m a fan of him, especially you guys just finished your screen porch. I love it. What kind of sheen did you use for the screen porch ceiling? Flat or semi- gloss?
    Thanks!
