Being in Atlanta, there have been numerous opportunities to work on charity projects around the city and last week, a group of Atlanta bloggers got together for just that purpose. Dwell with Dignity is a non-profit out of Dallas, started by Lisa Robison and Kim Turner, both interior designers who had their own successful businesses before teaming together for Dwell With Dignity. I love their mission statement:
Our Goal is to bring good design to those less fortunate, inspiring them to maintain a standard of living they can be proud of and thrive in.
Lisa and Kim, who started Dwell with Dignity. They have completed 18 projects in Dallas, where they live and have just branched out to other cities. This was the very first project they have done in Atlanta, but I know it won’t be the last.
I have enjoyed working with other non-profits in Atlanta for just this purpose and helping out those who are less fortunate is such a rewarding thing. I have been blessed beyond measure and giving back in a small way is something that I can definitely do. We have a great group of Atlanta bloggers here in the city and Erin from DIY on the Cheap spearheaded this effort, bringing the whole group together to help create and deliver several DIY projects for the home, as well as scheduled a painting day where we all showed up in shifts, getting this grungy apartment ready for the interior designers to come in and install all the beautiful furniture and accessories for this mom and her two boys.
We all gave of our time. I played a very small part in this project, but I did help paint the green room and part of the orange kitchen. We all pitched in and it got done!
This is a quick snap I took as the green walls were painted in the living room. It’s bright, but wait until you see the after shot of this space! It really turned out gorgeous. This is a really old apartment building off Moores Mill Rd. here in Atlanta and just painting it and getting new carpet created a whole new feel to the space.
I just got the link to the reveal for the mother and 2 sons, so take a look at that here! I’ll definitely post before and after photos too when I get access to them. I love how it turned out for this little family!
There was a fun wrap party the day of the reveal to the homeowner and we all gathered at Peacock Alley studios in Buckhead.
This is Kerry Howard, a fabulous designer here in Atlanta. Kerry was one of the 2 designers who headed up this project and I can’t wait to show you the finals when the pics are ready. Kerry and I met about 5 years ago and he is such a fun guy with lots of talent! He was on Bravo’s Top Design years ago and I loved watching he and Eddie Ross compete on that show. The reveal to the mom and boys was just this past Sunday and they are going to share the reveal pics with all of us soon. It really turned out so great!
I was so excited to meet Brian Patrick Flynn, from HGTV fame who I’ve heard so much about over the last couple of years. He’s a super talented designer and producer, funny, and fresh. He’s the one who completed the green living room and we had fun talking to him about that. And he’s really, really tall with great hair!
The Design Blogger’s conference was going on in Atlanta earlier this week and many of those folks came to the wrap party. I got to meet this sweet gal, Cheryl from Dwell by Cheryl. She told me her sister loves my blog! Hi sis!
I borrowed some pics from Atlanta blogger, Kim and this is me, Julie, Kristin (our Haven events planner), and one of the girls from Peacock Alley.
Checking out the new Peacock Alley showroom was fun. I really want to get down to ADAC and check out all the stores. ADAC is Atlanta Decorative Arts Center and is opened to the Trade.
More pretty bedding.
More pretty throws.
Pretty floral arrangements sitting around. Hello spring!
Fabric samples.
Here’s a quick snapshot of some of the Atlanta bloggers who helped on this project:  me, Erin, Melanie (back row), Kelley, Kim (in zebra). I sure have enjoyed getting to know so many other bloggers in the Atlanta area and how generous of heart they all are. Pulling together on a project like this can accomplish a lot of good things!
I’ll be back as soon as we get pics to this project and I’ll share before and after shots. It is pretty amazing!
Great job and for a great cause.
Do you know where the rose bedding came from ?
Have a great day – I love your blog !
HI, Karin, that new shop we were in is Peacock Alley, so that’s the bedding. Check it online.
Hi Rhoda,
I checked out the Dwell With Dignity website to check out volunteer information and was sad to see they are located in Dallas. How were you able to help with a project here in ATL?
HI, Barbara, this project was their very first one in Atlanta, but they are going to be doing more. If there is a contact form on the website, get in touch with them and let them know you’d like to volunteer in Atlanta. I can put the word out too when the next one comes up.
Tears of happiness for Tommy & her boys. What a wonderful to be a part of, however small. It all makes a huge difference for this mom and her family!
I loved this,Rhoda! Absolutely loved this! What a cool space for a precious family. This made my day. Kudos to you and everyone who helped with this project. My hat a blessingM

Wow. This is fabulous! You have given me something to think about for the Louisville area. Thanks for sharing.
Rhoda, I can’t wait to see the reveal. I tried the video but got an error message. This sounds like a great way to give back. You get to work on so many wonderful and interesting projects and you truly care about giving back to your community.
Great post, Rhoda! I agree with you and love Dwell with Dignity’s mission! It has been so fun getting to know you and the other Atlanta Bloggers. I can’t wait until our big thrifting trip, and our next DWD project:) You are a fun gal!!
What a great recap Rhoda, it was so much fun I can’t wait for the next one!
