When Eddie Ross came to Atlanta, during our blogger’s dinner, he gave us all the scoop about his next big project coming up:  namely he was chosen by Margaret Russell with Elle Decor to represent them in the Big Window Challenge at Bloomingdale’s in NY between Bloomingdale’s, Apartment Therapy and Elle Decor. The window is completed and now the voting begins!

Take a look at what Eddie came up with for this challenge and I think you’ll enjoy it as much as I did.  That would certainly get your attention as you were walking or driving by.  Eddie has fabulous ideas and executes them perfectly.  His room was designed around “The Modern Woman, a media mogul, wife and mother.

Eddie’s abbreviated description of the room:

The signature space shimmers with a mix of classic and modern, new and old, together with a balance of bold patterns and vibrant colors. A spatter-paint print, like stars in an endless sky, reflects the owner’s love of travel to wide-open spaces, and her passion for sparkling evenings at home entertaining friends and family.

It’s quite colorful and very fun to look at.  Love it, Eddie!  I can just imagine everyone pressing their noses up to the windows and taking it all in at Bloomingdale’s. Shelves

Eddie really goes into detail about The Modern Woman inspiration over at his blog, so take a look there if you’d like to read the whole story. Eddie can spin a story much better than I can. BarDetail

Eddie’s talent with styling flat surfaces just amazes me.  He’s tops at that!  Those are vintage Italian brass flowers in the silver vase to the left. Bust

Lots of details to take in in this room. Chair1

Another vintage chair with a beautiful pop of color against the blue spattered walls. Magazines

Our Modern Woman has kicked off her shoes for the day and relaxing for an evening of flipping through the latest magazines that were waiting for her at home.  Now, that I can relate to! MirroredTable

Even if you can’t see yourself living in a room like this, I think it’s a very fun room to take in and enjoy all the colorful elements that make it up. Sofa

Click here to see all 3 Big Window challenges.  And be sure to check out the grasscloth and funky wallpaper of the other 2 rooms.  Timely with our wallpaper discussion recently.

I would love to see Eddie win this competition, so if you’re an Eddie fan and would love to help him win, then please go over to Apartment Therapy and cast your vote for Eddie.  Click here for the voting page! You do have to register at Apartment Therapy to vote, but it’s quick and easy.

The rules are that you can vote twice a day, either online at the above link or you can text 1 to 89800.

Please vote for Eddie!  I’ll be supporting his hard work.

I absolutely adore Eddie Ross. He’s amazing! And I truly find this vintage/modern style very chic and fresh. I’m constantly struggling between the two but now after seeing his amazing flare I can see I can decorate with both. Thanks for a great post. I love the silver pieces and blue and white porcelian. Have a fantastic weekend!

I think it is hideous too! Rhoda, you could do better than this with your eyes closed and one hand tied behind your back.

Sorry but Eddie’s room is hideous. Really. That is the first word that comes to mind, and I didn’t get it from the other comments either. I think Eddie has gone overboard & needs to simplify a little. Strike that. A Lot.

Ahhh, thanks for this. I’m a girl who likes to mix traditional with modern and wonder sometimes if my house looks funny because of it. This makes me feel better. Would love to find an article on how to make it all go together better (in my house, not in Eddie’s display – he’s got it down pat!)

….Sorry Rhoda, but I’m not feeling it…I like a lot of “stuff”, but this just doesn’t come together for me. Your taste is just so much more classy, I guess I’m just not “design-savvy” to understand this decor.

    Hi Rhoda,
I agree with you, this room is Amazing!! The detail is second to none and the color combinations are extraordinary. I would never think of putting orange, blue, pink and red together as Eddie did with the pillows on the couch. I’ve been struggling with a bookshelf for awhile now but one look at Eddie’s gives me tons of ideas. TFS! Sheila

Isn’t it exciting to see it all come together after seeing the conception drawing in Atlanta?! I love the mix of color, which is saying a lot because I am normally afraid of color. lol A combination of classic and modern elements just speak to me.

    Have a fabulous weekend!

Hey! I know this is not everyone’s taste. It is over the top, very colorful, and busy, BUT this is a window display, meant to draw attention and grab the passerby. So, in that respect, I don’t think I would judge this by a normal room. He’s also representing Elle Decor, which is very modern and edgy and not particularly my style either. I totally understand the comments & this might be a room that you either love or hate. I like many of the elements that Eddie put in here. Would it be a room I would love to live in?? Nope, but that’s not the point!

    Thanks ya’ll for stopping by!

Hi Rhoda, I love Eddie and I love his design aesthetic and how inspiring he is. I think you have to keep in mind who and what he was designing this space for. Elle Decor and a Modern career woman on the move, onward and upward. This is not how he designs his own home, but a good designer will do what is suitable for his client and Eddie has more than done that here, Modern, Elle Decor, well traveled, Edgy. Bravo for doing what was called for, Eddie,

Sorry ~ not feeling the room as a window display or a room to live in. My first reaction – who shopped at Goodwill to decorate? Just too much stuff, too much clutter for me.

I love that he thought to put the “modern woman’s” shoes on the floor and the magazines scattered like she’s just trying to relax at the end of a busy day. 🙂 That’s a nice detail! The room is over the top, but that’s what he needed to do to grab the attention of the people on the sidewalk.
