Exterior Summer Plans: POLYWOOD Furniture

Since the inside of my house is now finished for the most part, I’m concentrating on the exterior of my house and looking forward to many updates out there this year.  We all have dreams of beautiful gardens and pretty landscaping with seating areas and flowers to enjoy and that’s been on my mind since I bought my house 2 years ago.  Inside work was first and now it’s time for the outside.  One of the first things I’m doing this spring is getting my house painted.  In fact, it’s happening this week and I couldn’t be happier to see this change come about.

Ya’ll, I’m squealing like a little girl over this!

So, I thought I’d show you the before pics of my house, so we can really appreciate the after shots when it’s all finished.  I’ve envisioned painting my house a truer gray and that’s what I’ve chosen.

With that new portico all finished, it’s time to paint and then the landscaping of the front yard will start in May.  Y’all, I can’t wait!

It’s going to be so fun to see this yard start to come alive with plants.  Plants make all the difference!

pink dogwood

You can’t help but notice this beautiful pink dogwood tree in my front yard.  I do believe the Lord put it there just for me to enjoy right now.  It’s so strikingly beautiful and makes me so happy in the spring when it’s blooming it’s little heart out.  It’s the perfect accent to the front yard, along with the cherry tree on the right.

So these are some good shots of the house now and how much things are going to change in the next couple of months, as the house gets painted and the landscaping begins.

front portico

I’m still absolutely in love with my portico and couldn’t be happier with the change it brought to my house.

garage side of house

Garage view of the house.  The painter suggested I paint the garage doors the same as the siding and I think I will do that, keeping the trim white.

back door

Back side of the house, which I hope to get beautified one day too.  We’ve finished the screened porch and I am going to be getting it all cleaned up this week from the pollen, so we can enjoy it again this summer. It sure was a nice retreat last year and we were out there all the time.  That’s my office window right above the grill.  I can look outside from my desk.

back of house

You can still see the aftermath of our projects with the left over wood and sawhorses.  This will all get cleaned up soon as we finish up back here.  I’ll be using a sprayer on that lattice, since we have already started it, we’ll finish it and let the paint crew do the rest.

dovetail paint

I’ve been testing out paint colors and the winner is the top one, Sherwin Williams Dovetail.  It’s a really pretty darkish true gray and that’s what I was looking for.  Trim will be Pure White.  One of the other things I’d like to do in the backyard is to eventually put in a seating area outside my back door.  I would love to add a stone patio from the bottom of the porch stairs over to the back door and add some beautiful new seating that just arrived.  That will be another project for another day, but I can’t wait to share this with you!

polywood chairs

I also want to introduce you to a new company that I just heard about and am working with.

POLYWOOD is a company who makes outdoor furniture out of recycled plastic.  Yes! All recycled plastics, like milk cartons are used to make these heavy duty outdoor seating pieces.  They have so many great items to choose from and mine are club chairs.  They arrived all packed up in boxes and using a handy tool provided (Allen wrench),  (with the help of my roommate) we put them all together using long metal screws.  These furniture pieces are very heavy and should stand up to the weather very well.

Did you know that today is Earth Day?!  It is, so recycling goes hand in hand with this day.

polywood furniture

For now they are sitting under my backyard trees and I couldn’t help but dream about how pretty it will all look one day when I get that patio in outside my back door.  The club chairs are very substantial, heavy and sturdy.  No problem with them blowing away in the wind!  I was very impressed with how they are made and put together and I can see them lasting for years and years.

polywood table

The little side table will be perfect for drinks and snacks.

The cushions on the chairs are very heavy duty and sturdy too. There’s nothing skimpy about them at all and they fit the chairs perfectly.  I chose this blue and green stripe and the fabrics are by Sunbrella, so you know they can withstand weather.  I will more than likely keep my cushions inside for now, but once I get my patio set up, I can leave them out during the summer months at least.

The back of the chair has slats and fits inside the slot, leaning back slightly.

These chairs are very substantial and sit very well.  I can’t wait to try them out more.

Beautiful and sturdy, these POLYWOOD products using recycled plastic are so unique and perfect for the outdoors.  I won’t have to worry about the frame on these at all, this plastic can withstand anything that comes along.

Interesting fact about POLYWOOD (and Earth Day) it takes approximately 500 recycled milk jugs to make one of theirAdirondack chairs.  I think that is pretty cool, keeping those milk jugs out of the land fill.

Here’s exciting news for all of YOU!

I really like your choice of paint color for your house. Have enjoyed following your decorating journey. What is the lower level in your house that is to the left of your front door? Can’t wait to see the finished project.

HI, Sandra, thanks, that is my downstairs den to the left. I’m hoping to get more windows put in that room to brighten it up more. Soon I hope!
