After being in our house for 8 years now, it was time to make a few updates and changes in our family room. I brought things I had from my previous home and we bought a couple of swivel chairs to round out the mix in here those first few years. Last year, I got rid of the thriftstore end table and another I got from a brand deal to update those with something more to our taste and this year brought the addition of a new sofa, since the old one was 10 years old and the cushions were failing badly. With all the changes, Mark decided we needed a bigger TV in here, since this is our primary TV watching spot and I didn’t argue. I don’t mind a big TV either, but that meant that it was time to update the TV console that I had for 10 years (one from Homegoods that I also got back then in my old house working with them on a collaboration). Mark never liked that TV cabinet all that much, but I thought it was quirky and fun, but I started looking for a replacement and found one that wow’d us both. So come along for the continued evolution of our family room. I think I’m done for the time being and it feels comfy and cozy. A house is almost never done, but I do tend to keep things a long time!

Here’s a reminder of where we started after moving in. I had done a collab with Arhaus and got that coffee table and the end table on the left, as well as the navy ottoman. The old tables served us well, the one on the right was a painted by me thriftstore find from Ethan Allen.

The teal zebra rug was a gift from Shaw Floors when I moved in my previous house and it was quite a colorful room, but it has evolved a bit since this look. We were both ready for some changes.

Two years ago now, I got the new rug (from a warehouse sale at Jaipur Rugs), and replaced both side tables and lamps. I’m really happy with how it looks now. This year brought the new Wesley Hall sofa, ordered through a design friend of mine who has an account with them. I decided to go darker on the sofa, since we have a dog and that lighter sofa had taken a beaten. I’ll link everything I can at the bottom of this post, in case you’re interested.

I got the floral pillows on the outside with my sofa purchase and I ordered the other pillow covers from Amazon. I also hunted down fabric locally and got the Arhaus ottoman recovered, which was a big savings over buying a new one. I loved the size and shape of this one and was happy to keep it. The blue leopard print was just what I wanted for it and I found that fabric at Fabric & Fringe warehouse here locally.

All the fabrics.

So this room isn’t huge, but it’s where we spend a lot of time and this arrangement works well for us. The neutral swivel chairs were purchased from a furniture company out of NC at Scott Antiques market right after we moved in here.

This sofa is extra deep and much more comfortable than the old one.

Over the fireplace, I wanted to add a landscape giclee painting and I found just what I was looking for on Etsy.

It’s really pretty and soft colors and I just love it. I found those blue lanterns at Dillard’s online, but they aren’t in stock right now. Maybe they will bring them back.

The last big addition is this pretty TV console to hold that new bigger TV. I was happy to find this one and it’s by Classic Home and I found the best price when I ordered from Bed Bath and Beyond.

Here’s a look at the old TV cabinet I had in here. It was definitely time for an upgrade to something more elegant and classic.

It’s quite the presence in the room and after moving a few pieces of art, we left 3 above. It’s very clean lined and I love how it looks in here.

The curves keep it from being too boxy and in the way and the doors offer plenty of storage behind.

I also added a couple of different pillow covers in the chair pillows. And that’s a look at how this room has evolved over the last 8 years. I think it’s done now for the time being and we are enjoying it very much. I’m linking everything I can link below in the picture widget:

beautiful room!
Looks great. All my favorite colors! Very inviting!
Love your ottoman fabric. I have a large ottoman as well and have it on casters. It is easy to move around the room as needed. They are so versatile. Have a good day and thanks for your postings.
I love the new changes and refresh. I’m going to suggest possibly rounding out the room with a bit of softness with drapery panels flanking both sides of the blinds. I feel it’ll soften and treat Elegance in the room.
Just beautiful, Rhoda! Your new TV console is perfect. The bamboo on the doors is really nice and so different! Also love the picture above your fireplace. Enjoy your new surroundings.
Hi,Rhoda, the refresh of your family room is beautiful. Hard to believe your have been in your home eight years.
Rhonda, the new updates look great!!! Who did you get to upholster your ottoman?
Hi Angela, I’ve been using the same guy for a few years, Glaber Upholstery on Canton Rd. He’s always good and less pricey than others.
Looks great….love the ottoman! Also love the gray blue color of the sofa and print in the ottoman. Perfect!
Such a Great refresh…. Always Love you chooses…. Now enjoy!
Thanks, for the info, Rhoda!!!🤗
I enjoy reading your blog posts, Rhoda. I tend to like blue and blue green colors that you use alot in your decor. I am wondering if the peacock blue chair in the area off of your kitchen was purchased like that. It looks like it could have a slipcover. Any information you can give me about it would be appreciated. It is such a cute chair. Thanks!
Thank you, Diane, I worked with Birch Lane 10 years ago and got that chair from them then, but it looks like it is discontinued. It was called the Shepard chair, but I don’t see it anymore. It’s been a good one, my morning coffee chair. They have different fabrics to choose from and I chose the blue/teal color.
Rhoda: The new furniture and other updates are eye pleasing without being too trendy. Funny, your new sofa is a twin to my 15 year old piece. Same style with the smaller rolled arms, etc. Mine is a Clayton Marcus, and has needed to be replaced for over two years, but I could not get happy with the styles. Pleased to know I can get a replacement almost exactly like my current one. May I ask how long yours is? We are in a smaller house now, and hoping to find one a bit shorter. AND your t.v. console is exquisite! The new painting over the fireplace is a beauty. Best wishes from the ‘Ham.
Hi, Becky, these traditional styles are still out there. Mine is a long sofa at 92″ long, but you can get them shorter too, they have lots of configurations. Thank you for stopping by, we are loving the updates too.
Beautiful room! Do you have a link for the TV?
