I’m back with a couple more outfits to share with you, showing the 2 new pair of booties that I got recently. Booties have been really popular for the last couple of years, but I’ve just decided to get on that bandwagon and this year, I added a couple of pair to my wardrobe and I’m really enjoying them. These are great with ankle length pants or jeans and they can also be worn with bootcut pants too. Most of the younger girls are wearing them with no socks (or hidden socks), but I think they can work with tights too. With my black booties and black pants, I did wear tights (or black dress socks would work too) with them for a long lean look and solid black always works.
So, if you decide to try some booties, there are a couple of options to wear them. I tried them sockless and with socks. Either can work.
These are the first booties I got. Black suede from DSW shoes and they are by Vince Camuto. They are around 3” high and that’s about the max I can go these days.
So, let’s talk about shoes. You will not see me wearing really high heels anymore. Those days of wearing spiky heels are over for me. As I get older, my feet can’t tolerate super high heels anymore and even though I love being stylish, I still try to be practical too in my shoe choices. So 2 1/2 to 3” is about my max for heels these days. And I won’t wear them all day long anymore. These are good for about 4 hours, then I’m ready to take them off. They are actually pretty comfortable and I added some foam inserts to make them even better. I developed bunions on my feet about 10 years ago after working retail for a few months and being on my feet for hours in heels. Worst thing for your feet! So, even though I understand why lots of women go for comfort in shoes, I still am not ready for geriatric shoes.
I want style and some comfort too! We do have to take care of our feet. I like the wedge heel on these shoes, they are still easy to walk in.
My first outfit is skinny pants (by Calvin Klein, found at TJ Maxx), my vintage coat, and a gray wool sweater I also found at TJ Maxx. These were found a couple of years ago. I wore black tights under the pants and my black booties, making a long lean look with all black. These outfits were all from my trip to the Grove Park Inn.
The sweater skims over my hips and hides enough that I feel comfortable in the form fitting pants. These pants are very comfortable and have spandex in them. I love that I can wear them tucked in boots or out with heels. They are made like jeans with pockets and are similar to riding pants. They say Calvin Klein jeans on the tag inside, but are made from cotton/poly/spandex. You should be able to find something similar out there.
I mentioned I’m really getting into wearing my gold jewelry again and opted for that mix with this outfit. The gold bracelets are from Wrist Soiree and I wrote about them already (see them close up below). Love the blingy gold bracelets. Those chains around my neck, I’ve had for years. The tassel one is from the old Premier jewelry line. Remember them? They were a home jewelry business years ago and I had lots of their jewelry at one time. The black and gold chain I don’t remember where I got it, but I have had it a long time. I’m glad I saved the gold jewelry, it’s been fun wearing it all over again. I don’t mind mixing jewelry, however, and often mix gold and silver. Most of my rings are silver these days and I love chunky rings and big fashion watches.
Another outfit I wore was the same black Calvin Klein pants, tucked into my flat boots. I wore a light gray Ann Taylor long sleeve top that I found at Goodwill for $5. I do love finding things at Goodwill occasionally. You can find some bargains and nearly new clothes if you look. The long black sweater is one I picked up from TJ Maxx and is a good piece for layering.
I layered my gray and black scarf and added my shell jewelry.
Here’s another way I wore the booties, casual look with jeans. These are Berlin by Rock and Republic skinny jeans from Kohls.
Cody is checking out the fashion show inside the door.
I copied the younger gals on this one and didn’t wear socks or tights. You can find socks that hide if you want to wear them under your booties for comfort. I’ve seen some girls wearing thicker socks and letting them peek out too between the booties and the jeans, so that is something to experiment with and you can find a look and feel that you like. Most of the girls I’ve seen wearing booties also turn up their jeans like this in a little cuff and I liked that look too.
This longer cable sweater is a Ralph Lauren from TJ Maxx too. I find a lot of good basic pieces at TJ Maxx that I have added to my wardrobe over the years. The faux leopard fur vest was passed on to me from my sister. She gives me things she no longer wears, so I have a few things from her closet too. I’ve enjoyed this vest a lot. It’s fun to wear during the winter months and is toasty warm.
My fave trio of bracelets to stack, the blingy stone and link tassel bracelet are from Wrist Soiree (had a giveaway with her awhile back), and the black and gold bangle bracelet is from C Wonder, which I’ll share more clothes from them later.
I layered my gold bracelets again with the gold necklaces and this is a boyfriend watch that I got from the flash sale Facebook jewelry site, Everyday Icing. If you sign up for their emails, you’ll get notice of all their sales and they have some good things. These are 2 pair of gold earrings I’ve recently added to my collection. The rings are from Saks Fifth Ave. outlet and the lower pair from the Country Living fair. I do not spend a fortune on my jewelry, but love a variety of chunky jewelry.
I like the longer sweater and it covers enough with these jeans. I definitely would not wear this sweater and vest with skin tight leggings though. I always wear longer tops with leggings.
As you can see, I’m definitely a jeans wearing girl. I have always loved jeans and they can be dressed up or down by what you put with them.
This is my 2nd pair of booties I recently got and these are a khaki suede from American Eagle Outfitters. I opted to wear socks with these and had a pair in my drawer that match these perfectly. They are a sweater sock and the same color as the booties. I sort of scrunched them under my jeans. These are the same Kohl’s skinny jeans from above. I just ordered another pair of these jeans in a bootcut. I love my cowboy boots too with bootcut jeans. I’ll show you those later on.
Excuse these pics, they are not the best since I did them with my tripod and timer. It’s hard to focus on something and then jump in the picture.
The booties up close. They have tassel zippers on each side of the boot and they are comfortable too.
This sweater is from TJ Maxx too and I’d love to find more like this one. It’s fairly long, but also longer in the back than the front. It’s a Calvin Klein brand. I added a pretty scarf that I found at Steinmart, in black, khaki and cream. That chunky brown leather cuff bracelet, I bought from my friend, Lucy who has an online jewelry store, Lucy’s Inspired, selling her vintage treasure collection that she makes herself. Love her things!
Here’s another look at the booties with my socks peeking out. I’m really like this look and the socks are great for chilly weather.
So, that’s a look at how I’m wearing my new booties and a few ideas on putting things together.
Have you tried any booties yet? I’ve got 2 pair of them, so I’ll show you more ways that I’m wearing them later. I’m really enjoying adding them to my wardrobe and they make me feel very stylish. No reason why we over-50 ladies can’t wear the booties too!
By the way, since I’ll be doing lots more fashion posts this year, I added a new Category at the top for Fashion, Beauty and Fitness, so anytime you want to see all the Fashion posts, click the Categories menu at the top and click on it!

You look Mah-vel-ous! You really do! I enjoy your house posts – okay so I’m a little jealous of all the freebies you get as a major blogger and I suppose I could also hate you for looking so darn good for your age- but I don’t! You are a sweet person who has a good soul (it’s your lovely parents to thank for that/love them too!) and you are just to nice to not like! I have been following you for years and I think you are the real deal- sharing your personal trials and tribulations over the years so honestly. And always so grateful for all that you have- you truly are an inspiration to rising above evil. I in particular LOVE these fashion posts! I will be 59 next month (when did THAT happen?) and I enjoy seeing how my contemporaries are dressing. It sort of makes me step out a bit and walk a bit on the wild side! And by THAT- I mean why yes! I have a pair of short booties and I love them- feel like I am a big hot deal in them too! I think you have a classic sense of style that is just so attractive- you are still a head turner, I’ll bet! I would actually love to see even more of these posts- maybe even another blog? THAT would be amazing and you would have a built in following for sure! And then I’d really hate you!

Hi, Joanne, thank you so much, I loved your comment! Thank you for taking time to share that with me, y’all are the reason I do this blog and I still love every bit of it. Fashion seemed to be a natural new path for me to take with this blog and I promise I’ll do more and more fashion on here too. It’s been a big hit already and I’m happy about that. I can’t promise I’ll start another blog….that would wear me out, but I promise I’ll add plenty of fashion posts in this year. It’s something I love and I know it’s a popular topic, so glad it’s been well received by so many of my readers.

Oooh, I love this fashion post. I esp love both the scarves you’re wearing. I’m always late to the fashion show and just bought ankle boots this year. My daughter wears booties, but I haven’t seen any made by Clarks. Those are the only shoes I can wear with my plantar fasciitis. I’ve been looking for some long sweaters with no luck. I’ll check out TJ Maxx when I go out this weekend. Thanks for all the inspiration.

Love your fashion posts & I want to tell you that you look fabulous! I am almost 66 & I wear skinny jeans, love my jewelry, & sometimes heels (but usually up to 2 inches.) I worked as a nurse for over 35 years on 12 hour shifts & my feet are terrible so I have to be careful with the styles. I also have rheumatoid arthritis which can deform your feet but I try to stay in style & make the best with what I have. You have given me some great ideas on clothes to buy not to mention diy projects. I admire your attitude & how you forge ahead in life instead of complaining (like some people we know.:) You encourage me & I look forward to all your posts.

Rhoda, hope you will continue to do the fashion posts. Would also love it if you could do more posts about your fitness and diet regimen!

Rhoda, love your fashion posts! You look great and like the others have said, you do a great job at keeping your look current and age appropriate! I’m trying to navigate that myself these days. I’m not as young or small as I used to be, but I still want to look cute! You’re totally nailing it!

Love the post and hope you will do more!

I have been following your blog for a long time thanks to my friend since childhood, Pat at Backporch Musings. I am not into decorating and most definitely not a do-it-youselfer but I enjoy your posts. I have commented to Pat many times how much I like your clothes and style so I look forward to your upcoming fashion posts.

It is all very cute but….some of us cannot go near the sweater look you are modeling. Think Paula Deen before weight loss! I do dress like Paula Deen and Martha Stewart. The rule is if you are a bit chunky in the middle don’t wear anything clingy or adds bulk to that area. I vote you get a short lady with a butt and hips. Yes, I will model for you!
Rhoda says
Hi, Jan, I hear ya! I do have some friends who have different shapes than I do, so I’m hoping to persuade some of them to model for me too. We’ll play dress up!

Love booties ! I had one pair of riding booties that I have had for about 5 years, but I added 3 new pair this year since they are so readily available. I have really enjoyed wearing mine. My favorite have turned out to be the black patent booties, they go with so many things in my wardrobe. You can see my 3 choices here……http://goodlifeofdesign.blogspot.com/2014/10/unbelieveable-cute-and-comfortable.html
KATHYSUE says
Holy smokes I just read the 69 year old’s comment. Shooties are when the boot is below the ankle. You called what you are wearing by the correct name, booties. Not sure why she would want to wear leg warmers, since they have not been in style for decades. Rhoda, I am proud of you for expressing your individual taste and always trying to be the best you can be at any age. Style and fashion will always be objective. Enjoy this stage of your life and I will be reading and commenting!!!
Debbie says
I love your fashion posts! Please keep them coming! As an over 50 woman (actually over 60), I also want to look fashionable and love reading your ideas! Of course, I enjoy your decorating posts too. Your blog is a favorite for sure!
Gayle says
You are so cute! So trim and stylish, too. When you go shopping do you have an idea of what you are looking for or do you just buy and then find something to go with your new purchases? I think everything you wore in this post is very well coordinated. I love new personal posts, keep them coming. But to be honest, I don’t like parties. I don’t like looking at outfits of people I don’t follow. I don’t do house decor parties either. I like finding new bloggers but usually find them from recommendations or comments on blogs I like. Am I alone in this dislike of parties?
Rhoda says
HI, Gayle, I know bloggers like the parties, because it usually gets people coming to their blogs. But I can see why readers might not like them. I don’t do a lot of parties, only occasionally. Thanks on the fashion posts! I am really enjoying adding this to my blog and looking forward to more of it this year. I’ll definitely do it on a regular basis.
Sometimes I do have something in mind when I go shopping (Like new pair of jeans, or something), but often I will find things that I know will work with my wardrobe and will buy things that will mix in well. I know the colors that look good on me, so I gravitate towards those colors. I need to do a post about colors, that is interesting to talk about too. And colors can enhance or not enhance certain people.
Lynn Rechsteiner says
Thanks for sharing this fashion post, it inspired me…now I have a reason to shed a few pounds to earn that sleek look you mentioned. Secondly , got to get out and get some nice boots…they should be on sale now since the holidays are past. Love your style, keep inspiring us! Hugs.

Rhonda,
You look amazing and I agree on the heel height. I have been following your blogs daily now for a while and enjoy them. I have connected with Marc “Consigner” through your blog and enjoy his posts on FB.
I am a fashion blogger and at times add photos on my home decorations (just recently my Christmas decor). So, it is fun to see someone who is doing the opposite. Blessings to your 2015!

You have been a huge encouragement! Once I hit 50 my wardrobe took a dive because I always wanted to be age appropriate and didn’t know what that meant. My daughter just cleaned out my closet and bagged up 4 bags of outdated clothes to give away. I am waiting for my ‘no spending’ January to end so that I can head to TJ’s. I love the booties. I think I may try them first before I plunge into the knee highs! Thanks for posting and reminding us over 50’s that we can still look in style!
Rhoda says
HI, Joi, I love hearing that, thank you!!
Torey says
I’m 38 and I think you look adorable. So many women over fifty wear sweats/sweatshirts/tennis shoes where I live. I only hope I’m half as stylish as you are by the time I’m your age. I’m not even close right now. 🙂
teddymom says
Rhoda,
I’ve followed you for years, exulted over your joys, wept over your heartaches, and admired your style along the way. I’ve never commented, but on this post I just had to …you’ve never looked so attractive and just …. happy in your skin. Your face is glowing and your hairstyle is so polished! Everything you are doing is appropriate for a vivacious, energetic, young-at-heart woman of ANY age. Keep on being an inspiration for so many of us!
Rhoda says
Thank you so much! That is exactly how I’m feeling at this stage of life and I’m looking forward to expanding this part of my blog to include fashion and beauty posts. I’m so glad it’s been well received!
