Feature Friday: A House in Uptown New Orleans

While we were in New Orleans, I did find one house to photograph in Uptown New Orleans, which is close to the Garden District.  My sister has an old friend who lives there, Clint, and he let us come over and see his house and take photos.  From the exterior, it’s a traditional looking French Quarter type house, but inside, Clint has transformed in into a contemporary and modern space, since that is his aesthetic.  Some of you may enjoy this modern touch in New Orleans, so enjoy the house.  It’s really pretty and when he bought the house 30 years ago, it went through a lot of transformations.  In fact, 2 renovations have been done over the 30 years that Clint has owned the house and the latest one is very modern.

exterior

The exterior is a charming house that you would expect in New Orleans.

exterior 2

Shutters and iron gate are very much in keeping with the style of the city.

balcony

Shutters and lanterns on the balcony.

courtyard

And a charming courtyard in the front yard is a nice welcoming entryway.

garage

Lots of balconies in New Orleans.

front door

A red door is vibrant on the soft yellow exterior.

doggies

Inside the door, Clint’s 2 fur babies are waiting.

foyer light

You can tell this is going to be a contemporary house from the entry lighting.  Pretty colors!

staircase

The stairs going up to the upper two floors.

pool table

To the left is the pool room, with modern art and rock and roll memorabilia.

rock n roll memorabilia

Clint has a nice collection of guitars owned by some world famous musicians, like Jimmy Hendrix.

wine cellar

It’s obvious Clint loves his wine and built a bonafide wine cellar.

wine cellar 2

Looks like hundreds of bottles are housed here in this cold space.

great room

The great room has an open soaring ceiling with lots of white and a black leather sectional with black and white striped pillows.

greatroom fireplace

More modern art and instruments.

bar

A bar area with 2 modern stools is off the greatroom.

dining room

The contemporary dining space is to the right of the greatroom.

powder room

A small powder room is equally modern and sleek.

powder room waterfall

This is a waterfall in the small bath.

face statue

Modern art, this is glass made up of faces and it turns and changes colors on the pedestal.

pool

Right off the greatroom is the backyard pool.

pool seating

Nice place to hang out on a hot summer day and New Orleans does get some heat.

pool2

Perfect pool for dipping and cooling off.

kitchen

The kitchen cabinets are not really this color, but he has lighting around the upper and lower cabinets that change color.

kitchen 2

You can see it changing to red here and the dog is a blur as I snapped this pic.

kitchen 3

Back to blue. The countertops are a glass material in a pretty shade of blue.

kitchen 4

Blue and white kitchen combo.  You can see he likes sleek in everything.

kitchen 5

More changing colors.

glass tile floor

The tile floor reminded me of terrazzo, but it is actually a glass tile.

breakfast table

The breakfast room right off the kitchen.

breakfast area

More modern art and contemporary lighting.

office

Upstairs is Clint’s office and he has perfected the gallery wall well in here.

laundry

A long and sleek laundry room is upstairs.

stairwell

The metal railing and contemporary art.

guest room

Upstairs guest room in a vibrant shade of coral red.

guestroom2

Pretty room.

guest room bed

Guest bed.

guest bath

Guest bath.

master suite

The master bedroom suite.

master bedroom

master bath

And the master bath with slate tile on the floor.

master tub

A very modern tub and tile work.

chair in master bath

There’s a chair in the spacious bathroom.

man cave

On the top floor is the man cave, a perfect space for the men to hang out and watch sports.  He has 3 sons.

mancave 2

Lots of sports memorabilia here too.

man cave 3

Pretzels, popcorn and more.

man cave 4

Framed jerseys and a bar area.

So, that’s a tour of a contemporary home in Uptown New Orleans.  It’s so fun to see how other people live and I enjoyed seeing Clint’s house in person.  From the exterior, you’d expect a traditional home, but once inside, it’s a surprise.

I love seeing how people live with their collections and what is important to them. What an enviable art collection, a really fun post! Though he clearly loves lots of teams, he must be a Pittsburger…a Steeler blanket in the master!! Love the soaring ceiling in the LR, and the pool, counters and flooring all caught my eye.

Good eye, Rosie, he is from Pittsburg and plans to build another house up there sometime in the near future.

I am from Pittsburg too, and it really calls to us when thinking about retirement….we just feel at home there! What fun that Clint will build another house!

I love the master bath tub! Jealous. And what a nice man to let his friend’s sister come in and photograph his entire house! 😉

Yesterday’s drama got me thinking to how much and WHY I really love your blog, Rhoda. I read it almost every morning with a cup of coffee. Why is it part of my routine? Because it inspires me to get moving and try to get my house cozy and clean for my family and friends. You are helping other women bless their families–not a small thing at all.

What are the 2 items on the hearth? The one on the left looks like it can hold wood.

What a great art collection Clint has! A good contemporary finish is not easy to accomplish, but it has certainly been done here. Thanks for letting us have a look, Clint and Rhoda.

The exterior is fabulous. The interior is not my style, but boy you can tell that someone fun lives there. I love the face art.

I love the front patio area and the pool. Is that a small guest house off the pool area?
