Today’s Feature Friday is blogger, Brooke, from Farmhouse 1820, She’s been blogging for a few years now and documents the renovation process of her family’s old 1820’s farmhouse. She and her family live in NY state in a real live farmhouse.  No copying here, it’s the real deal!
It seems that most old farmhouses are white with black shutters and this one is too. Â It certainly is pretty, but Brooke says it took them 9 months to buy and close on the house and that they had to do a whole lot of work and cleaning on the inside just to make it livable.
They now enjoy the fruits of their labor and have been in the house for more than 5 years. Brooke is a major DIYer who makes over and paints furniture, upholsters and more. Â The kitchen fireplace is a real working fireplace.
The kitchen and all the moldings and doors got fresh coats of white paint.
Making it all cozy and pretty.
I love this kitchen island.
She talks about renovating an old house and how you have to deal with what you have. Â Brooke notes that this is an old ox yoke light fixture that was made 50 years ago. Â She would love to move it over her prep table, but with plaster ceilings, it’s a big job.
Brooke actually installed this brick wall in her dining room for some architectural interest and she shares the how-to on that on her blog.
Love this green, black and white combo, very fresh.
Brooke notes that their den was an add-on along the way and had hardly any windows.
So she went looking for a big old window to install and found this beauty, which now lets in plenty of light and gives them a beautiful view.
Her office space is nice and cozy with a chair and work table and is part of the living room.
A powder bath got a makeover too and she has lots more to do in the house, including the master bedroom and bath.
Speaking of the master bath, it’s finished and it’s gorgeous!
Her daughter’s room with bright colors.
And a cute bedroom for her son.
Guests must feel very cozy in this room.
Outdoors, they have wide open porches to enjoy and I can imagine how nice this is.
I love a good porch!
Open backyard with plenty of entertaining spaces off that big back porch is extra special.
They have beautiful raised bed gardens as well as a chicken coop.
Brooke’s beloved garden shed is a charmer.
And lastly, they have a pretty red Americana barn!
I hope you enjoyed this fun tour of Brooke’s farmhouse and be sure and stop over to her blog, Farmhouse 1820 for lots more details!
I love the idea of using straw bales as occasional tables and extra seating! Genius for the country and the perfect size. They also won’t blow over in the wind we have so often at my house. Once the summer entertaining is done, the straw can be spread over my strawberry bed for winter mulch. Great way to recycle.
What a beautiful home….and yes, the fruits of their labor shines brightly in their wonderful home both inside and out!..Great feature. Have a great weekend.
Thanks for another lovely feature. I love the outside of their home and really love the fireplace in the kitchen and the brick wall.
