I first saw Heather on Instagram from The Decor Fix (again, where I’m seeing so much talent these days!) and she has been blogging since 2011.  I love that she is a former teacher, but after finding blogs and getting inspired to start her own, she then morphed into a design coach and has her own e-design business, helping women all over the world get the homes they always wanted.  I love that the internet and social media has opened so many doors for women of all ages to do what they love to do.  That’s a pretty incredible thing!  I’m going to let Heather introduce herself and you can get an idea of her personality and what she has to offer on her website. If you’re looking for online decorating help, Heather is a good one to look at.  I used to do online consultations, but just don’t have the time now.

Heather and her sweet family live in this 1940’s cottage in Springfield, MO. Â They have just found out they are going to be moving back to her home state of TX soon, so will able saying goodbye to this beauty, which I know will be hard. Â It had me at this gorgeous front entry. So charming!

Take it away, Heather!

The Decor Fix is where I share client projects, decorating tips, and peeks of my own journey to create an intentional home. I truly believe everyone should have a home they love that tells their story. But sometimes we get stuck and feel limited by our own abilities (or budgets) to do so.
As someone who has always cared about my space, I found there were a lot of emotional barriers when it came to decorating my first home. I knew what I liked when I saw it, but felt helpless to really translate that style into my home.

Through the process of blogging, I was able to deal with the perfectionism trap and the fear of getting it wrong and learn to create a home filled with meaningful beauty…not just pretty stuff. (Also I dealt with a little thing I call “Pinterest Paralysis“.) That creative journey was transformative for me and eventually led me into a career in design.

I started blogging back in 2011 under the name The Lovely Cupboard. Then I was blogging about all things home…recipes, crafting, entertaining, and decorating. In 2010 we had just bought our first home, and my husband traveled a lot for work. I would sit for hours and read decor blogs (like yours!) with a bag of chocolate and glass of wine.
I have had the decorating bug since I was a little girl and got my hands on my grandmother’s copies of Southern Living. Decorating blogs were a whole new world of inspiration to me. Eventually I decided to give up on the bags of chocolate and start blogging about my own adventurous in DIY and decorating. (Ok, so I never really gave up the chocolate.)

After a couple years blogging, friends and family saw my work and began asking me to help decorate their homes. I was still a full-time teacher but had summers and weekends to work on my little side business. I was super busy and at times it was crazy, but I loved every minute of it.

After two years teaching full-time, blogging, and running my side business I came to a fork in the road. I was increasingly resenting my day job and having to turn down design jobs because of my schedule. My husband and I were expecting our first baby, and I knew that I couldn’t continue everything I was doing and add a baby to the mix. So with the encouragement of my husband, I quit my teaching job and jumped into business as my full-time gig.
Now I work with some local clients, but most of my work is done virtually with clients all over the world through a process I call Decor Coaching. I help women discover their style and give them guidance on things like color schemes, floor plans, furniture choices, and styling. It a much more collaborative approach than traditional design in that while I provide guidance, the final decisions are put in my clients hands. (Turns out even though I left the classroom, I am still a teacher at heart.)

I’m also really excited to have launched my first online decorating class that tackles a topic most people find very tricky…bookshelves. So many of my decor coaching clients struggled in this area (while dreaming of those beautifully styled shelves on Pinterest!) So I came up with a tried-and-true method to help them achieve a bookshelf that’s both functional and beautiful.
I teach that method in The Bookshelf Styling Class, a 90 minute e-course. In the class, I teach you how to use your existing pieces, shop smart, and get a great result no matter what your decorating style. (Oh, and I even made cheat sheets and templates for stress-free styling!)

There’s no other work I’d rather be doing than helping others find purpose and peace in their homes. I feel so blessed to be a part of peoples’ lives in that way…And to think it all began when I decided to start a blog on a whim. Isn’t life funny that way?

I hope you enjoyed seeing Heather’s home and her journey in blogging. I’m so happy for her that she is able to stay home with her precious girl and work from home. Â And I can’t wait to see what she does with her next house! Â Hop over to The Decor Fix and check out Heather’s blog and her services too!

Thank you for the lovely introduction. I am inspired by all of the lovely designs.
Are the drawer units for your desk from IKEA?
Love your cottage; I’m in the midst of getting mine ready for sale/retirement
Hi Cathy! Yes, they are the “Alex” drawer units.
Such a sweet home! Thanks for introducing us to a new blog friend. It should be fun to follow Heather as she makes the move back to Texas.
Happy Easter to you!
Thanks, Leslie Anne!!
Terrific . …thanks for introducing us to Heather!

I just love your sense of color. Your color combinations are a perfect eyeful and are so unique. That vanity and stool are to die for. Do you remember the source?
What a beautiful home. Thanks for the introduction. I am off to browse through her blog.

I am sorry to see you leave Springfield, Heather. You came out to my patio home & gave me so many ideas on improvements that I could make. I am happy to say that I have incorporated most of them & am very happy with how it turned out. Thanks so much for your ideas that helped me keep it from looking like a ‘grandma’s house’. Lol
