Feature Friday: Eclectically Vintage

Today’s Feature Friday is one that I shared years ago, but it’s time for an update. Older houses are so much fun to explore and we have a fun one today.  Kelly Elko from NJ lives in a 103 year old house in NJ and you will love the features and transformations in this home. Her blog name was Eclectically Vintage but she changed it to her name a few years ago. I’ve got brand new pics to share today so I hope you enjoy.

Before House

Here’s the house when they bought it.  Pretty, right?  Nothing wrong with the exterior at all, but they got busy and made it even better.

Wow, here it is now!  Gorgeous, isn’t it?!

Swoon!!  I totally adore this front porch and door, so pretty and welcoming. In fact, Kelly’s front porch was my inspiration for adding the front porch on my old house. This was before she painted it navy. I love the new navy!

Foyer with her cute dog, Sushi to welcome guests.

The living room.

Kelly’s love of mid-century modern and vintage is evident inside with her choices and mix of furniture and accessories.

The dining room is warm and cozy too, with a red rug and warm olive walls. I love the pair of lanterns hanging over the table.

How about the red stove and range hood with that stunning marble backsplash.

Kelly’s pride and joy is the renovated kitchen, with white cabinets, and marble countertops and herringbone marble backsplash.  Wow, is it gorgeous!!  A dream kitchen for many of us. Kelly’s complete kitchen tour is here. She has a wonderful and interesting mix of vintage accessories all around the kitchen.

And the wine bottle lighting, how cool is that choice?

Cute breakfast area. Check out the map light.

She even has a cute mudroom.

And a sunporch complete with cozy seating.

Family room

Love her gallery wall on the TV wall.

Master Bedroom

Cute colorful rug leads to the guest room.

What a cozy space this is with the exposed brick wall.

Outdoor seating on a beautiful bluestone patio.

Great place to spend time outdoors during summer.

Hope you enjoyed Kelly’s beautiful eclectic home.  It’s certainly evident that Kelly has taken pride in her home and made it a wonderful showplace and she should be very proud of the outcome.  Hope you’ll stop by and visit Kelly, I know she would love that.

I was dismayed to see the gutter and downspouts painted in a very dark color (in the exterior “after” photo). Why call attention to something necessary but ugly? Wouldn’t painting these items the same color of the house made more decorative sense?

Hi, Janet, you know I didn’t even zone in on that feature, but I’m sure they had a reason for doing it. Why not add something nice instead of just pointing out negatives? After all, it is a beautiful 100 year old house.

      Hi Janet,
The gutters are not painted, they are a bronze color and we chose them to mimic the look of copper downspouts.

Those gutters are classic European style and are meant to be highlighted as an architectural feature. When you pay extra for something such as that (and they are quite a bit more costly than average gutters,) you certainly would not want to camouflage them by painting them the same color as the rest of the house. We have these on our house, and the day they were installed I thought they just looked like big snakes hanging off the roof. But once the house was finished, I loved them – they add so much to the overall look of the house.

I had already seen Kelly’s dining room with the vintage wine bottles displayed in front of the window. I thought that was unique and clever. What I really love is her kitchen! I live in an old house, and I’m dreaming of an updated, bright kitchen like hers. Loved the lights and the old drawers on the counter. And she’s created such a wonderful space for the kiddos to do their homework.

Great job, Kelly! Your home is stunning and cozy and fresh and happy and…every other good adjective you can think of. I stumbled on it a while back somehow and I think I went on a pinning spree that day.

O.M.G. that front door – Wow, Wow, Wow! I love it (can you tell?). Everything inside the home is beautiful, but that’s probably the most welcoming front door I’ve ever seen.

    Rhoda & Kelly,

Thank you for sharing this Jersey Gem! (I am always happy to discover another Jersey Girl blogger as well as another much loved vintage home!) I am swooning over the kitchen renovation (down to your choice of latches and handles!) and storage space in the mud room. I like the copper gutters and rain spouts. They frame and add contrast to the exterior.

    Your Friend,
    Deborah

    Rhoda,

So wonderful to see Kelly’s absolutely gorgeous home featured here tonight! You see, she’s one of my blog friends …

… we bonded over our shared Jersey connection (I was bred there … she now lives there) …

And have amped up blog- sparked friendship since our first crossing paths in December.

So happy for you Kelly. You are having quite the whirlwind week. The belle of the ball, if you will …

    🙂

    xxoo

Let me just say… the entire house is gorgeous inside and out. The gutter/downspout comment is purely my own comment. Personally, I prefer those items to be the same as the house color. Now that I know why the owner made this choice I do like it better.

Oh wow! Where to start? There is something beautiful in every single room! My favourite features have to be those wine bottle lights (genius) and that incredibly beautiful marble backsplash!
