Today’s Feature Friday is a fun one and something different than I’ve shared before. Â Did you catch that title above, H20 Bungalow. Â Â You know what that means, right? Â Water Bungalow. Â A cute house on the water. Â Yes, indeed! Â Meet Wendi from H20 Bungalow. Â She and her hubby and family downsized from a big Texas house in 2012 and bought a small 1950’s bungalow home on a barrier island on the west coast of Florida. Â It was a mess when they bought it, but with a lot of work and effort, Wendi has turned it into the cutest house on the block.
And the views, y’all….the views are to die for! Â This makes me rethink retirement and where I might want to end up. Â It looks like such a dream lifestyle for sure. Â Wendi says she has decluttered, gotten rid of most of the extras and they are living a much simpler life. Â Sounds good to me! Â Wendi painted the house herself to save some cash.
Dolphins on the house greet guests. Â You know you’re near the coast when you see dolphins. Â I love the color Wendi chose.
Wendi built this headboard bench for her front entryway.
And an aged copper patina front door was a DIY project. Â Wendi is really talented in the DIY and design arena.
Inside the front door, her office/studio is in full view. Â In a small house, you have to maximize every square inch and it looks like Wendi has done that.
The home was opened up at some point to a more open floor plan.
A reading nook is on one end of the living area.
Love these rustic shelves that Wendi added in here.
The dining area is small, but cute and functional.
The kitchen as nice wood cabinets and while not huge, very functional and gets the job done.
Wendi made a pantry and decked it out to be pretty too.
A small half bath got a major facelift too and this bath is off her office space.
The main family bathroom (it only had one when they moved in) was also renovated with slate and glass tile. Â Such a fresh space now.
There’s a tub in this one.
Wendi just completed a master bath addition and it is very warm, textural and spa-like.
An open vanity with glass sinks add a lot of interest to the space.
And the walk-in shower with wood look tile and stone pebble floor is so pretty.
With the open floor plan, the back of the house is almost all windows and doors, which works well in this house. Â Because, the views! Â The views out back are amazing.
Can you imagine walking out to THIS every morning for coffee? Â Yes, I could!
Dock with seating and those wonderful Florida coastal views.
Sunsets have to be glorious back here! I love that  Wendi and her family have created such a wonderful home and even though they downsized, they are still living large.  Stop over to H20 Bungalow and say hello to Wendi. I know she’d love to hear from you since she has worked so hard on this house.
What a fun place to live! I love it!
Oooo my goodness. I’m a tiny bit jealous. That’s a little slice of paradise.
Rhoda, Wow! It’s fun to look at my home through someone else’s eyes:) Your lovely post made me realize how far we’ve come. There is still lots left to do like baseboards and landscaping the yard. Thank you for seeing the pretty in my house and including me in your Friday Home Tour!
Oh-whoa! Just having returned from the coast…it never gets monotonous. Where do I sign up for this retirement vista?
very pretty.. but I do have a question.. I keep see the word de-clutter being thrown around.. and it seems to be from the same people who endlessly shop for more at yard sales and thrift stores.. seems like a double edge sword here.
Well, as a declutter-er myself and one who loves to shop thrift too, I have had to slow down and not shop as much anymore. I think most of us who have downsized and decluttered are in this boat. I still love the thrill of the hunt, but can’t bring home more stuff,so I tend to not shop nearly as much as I used to.
I had the absolute pleasure of meeting and talking with Wendi at Haven last year, and couldn’t wait to check out her (cOOl name) blog! I want to move THERE! Just beautiful–all of it!
Catherine
I noticed all the baseboard were missing in all the rooms except the bathrooms, is there a reason for this? The house is amazing minus them though!
She mentioned on her blog that they haven’t finished all the little details yet.
BEAUTIFUL!!
WOW! Did not expect the indoors to look like that! What an incredible makeover. I’ve stayed in some bungalows like this throughout Florida when we were kids on family vacations and they were pretty boxy and boring. This home is anything but that. Very open, relaxing, and welcoming. Good job!
Absolutely love this and that view!!!!! I’d love to know which barrier island she lives on. The whole southwest coast of FL is breathtaking! We are actually heading down to Longboat Key tomorrow. Such a pretty area. Thanks for sharing this coastal home with us.
