One of my sweet friends in blogland is Holly Mathis of Holly Mathis Interiors. In fact, we go back to that original decorating board from the early 2000’s I’ve talked about before and she’s one of the first people I ever knew featured in Better Homes and Gardens back in 2005. That was exciting, to see someone I had interacted with online be on the pages of one of my fave magazines. Now, it’s every month I see a blog friend in a magazine and that is really cool.
Holly is one talented gal from Texas, with a sweet outlook and fresh look at design. She really has a great eye for putting all the details together and I admire her design aesthetic a whole lot. You’re going to love her house if you haven’t seen it yet. It’s a 1941 cottage in Texas and she has made it into a beautiful home for her family, which includes her hubby and 2 adorable boys.
She had her home professionally photographed by Natalie Lacy Lange and they are beautiful!
Holly has an easy on the eye style with a mix of Traditional and cottage. It’s hard to pinpoint styles these days, but I know I love Holly’s relaxed and comfortable home.
With a white slipcovered sofa, the pillows look warm and inviting and that gallery wall is gorgeous. Those blue framed prints are the original blueprints to her older home.
The dining room is equally warm and inviting with the rustic table and chairs and painted sideboard/hutch. Holly has a thing for white dishes too! I love her choice of lanterns too.
And the kitchen is completely wow with the black and white floors, all white cabinets and touches of color here and there. Just look at how all that texture brings her space alive. Love, love!
Another view of the kitchen.
I just love how pretty and inviting it looks, it just draws the eye in. She took off cabinet doors to make them open shelves.
A chalk board door leads upstairs on numbered stairs, what a whimsical and cute thing to do. I will always love a black and white floor too.
Another look at the corner cabinet with open shelving.
She has a serving area that is skirted next to the kitchen. Love this space too!
The master bedroom is soft and pretty with lots of comfy linens.
Holly has a wonderful mix of antiques and found things throughout her home, which really makes for an eclectic look. Mixing it up is the way to go.
Check out the back porch with brick pavers and all that rustic wood and wicker. I imagine some fun times are had out here beating the Texas heat.
It’s a beautiful space! Covered porches and patios are so necessary in the South and Holly has a wonderful one. I sure enjoyed seeing Holly’s home tour and I’m sure you all did too. Stop by and say hello, I know she would love to meet you. She also does decorating consultations by email, so you can check out those services too.

I have to say I’ve been gravitating toward white, beige and black in as a base for everything (in my imagination’s decorating exercises). Love how Holly uses it here. Loving your blog for it’s stable, rational, yet refreshing feel.

Oh yes, yes, yes — a whole lot of yes! 🙂 I love her style, and actually gasped (in a good way) when I got to the pic of the back porch. I do wonder about having a ‘suggestion box’ in the kitchen. 😉 (Love that, too!)

I know it’s all about ‘styling’ the photo-shoot, but when I saw the eight pillows on the slip-covered sofa I had to laugh. My husband would go nuts. I have three throw pillows on my sofa and whenever we have company, they always end up in the floor or on a chair across the room. 🙂 Like the dough bowl on the dining table holding the crayons. Gonna pass that idea on to my daughter.

A very relaxed style definitely. I do love the idea of the chalkboard panels on the back of the door, very clever.

Holly’s style is incredible! We “met” years ago through an online bb and I’ve always admired her style. In my mind I pictured her home like it was featured in Better Homes and Gardens and it was fun to see her updates.

Rhoda thank you so much for featuring my home. So nice to see Paula and Deb and Diana and so many others here i have know for so long from bulletin boards online or blogging.. God is so cool and I so thankful for this blogging and decorating journey and to have met so many wonderful women!
I had to laugh about the “8 pillows on the sofa” comment..i agree its nuts but i have to confess that pile of pillows is covering stains caused by the combo of 2 little boys and white slipcovers..pillows cover a mulitude of sins!;;;
