Feature Friday: Jenna Sue Designs

I’m back today on Feature Friday with another blogger who I’ve recently discovered. There are so many bloggers who are new to me out there and I am blown away by the talent of these bloggers I keep running across. Today’s feature is Jenna Sue from Jenna Sue Designs.  Jenna Sue is living her dream and started her Etsy business in 2011, selling her own graphic design prints. It has been so successful she quit her day job later that year and is now blogging and selling on Etsy full-time.  Love seeing all the successes out there!

She’s not really new and has been blogging since 2010, but I recently saw her 1970’s house renovation for the first time.  Mind blown, y’all!  I love my 70’s renovation, but her’s is truly amazing. You have to go and see the before pics to really appreciate it all, but she and her husband have done an outstanding job on this California house in the hills.  There ain’t nothing 70’s about this house now!

house exterior

The exterior pic is the Before photo and I didn’t see a new one, so maybe it hasn’t changed much, but the inside sure has.  If you love rustic farmhouse, you are going to love this one.

foyer 2

Inside the front door, they added planked walls and lots of neutrals.

foyer door

Jenna Sue painted all her interior doors black and they were plain hollow core doors.  She made them all over with thin veneer plywood which made them look old.  Amazing transformation!  I have these same hollow core doors and painted mine dark brown, would love to have the energy to do what Jenna Sue did, but I don’t think I do. I may come up with another plan for adding molding to the front of the doors, but her method required moving doorstops and rehanging, so that isn’t going to happen at my house.   You have to see how she did this closet door makeover too, so cute!  I don’t think I’m that industrious though, but I sure love the result.

foyer3

Love her foyer light from World Market and the little shelf on the inside.

family room

The rock fireplace soars all the way to the ceiling, a very dramatic look.  This room looks like it gets tons of light.  Love the update and the planked ceiling and beams.

family room sofa

family room windows

You can see that a lot of light comes in here.

family room throw

family room chaise

Such a cozy and inviting living area.

familyroom furniture

Jenna Sue has a wonderful way with vignettes and displays.

kitchen

And get a load of the kitchen renovation.  Holy cow, that’s beautiful!  She’s got a whole post on the kitchen breakdown.  I love seeing how much people spend on kitchens and theirs came in at $28K.  It sure is beautiful!

kitchen sink

kitchen oven

kitchen shelves

Love the subway tiled wall and open shelves.

kitchen open shelves

There’s an adorable bench seat in the kitchen too, as well as a banquette.

kitchen table and chairs

With a rustic table….

kitchen table

So, so cute!  I just love everything that Jenna Sue has done.

kitchen butlers pantry

This feels like such a livable space, so calming and relaxing.

master bedroom

The master bedroom has built in closets on either side.

master closet and beams

Great idea for a small room.  I think I read these are from Ikea.

master closets

Looks great flanking the bed with the planked wall in the background.

master tv

So many fun details in this house.

master view

And the views….oh my, at the views in this house!  California rolling hills.

home theater

Downstairs is a media room.

back deck

And one more shot of the deck space and those scenic vistas again.  Don’t you love this?

back deck view

I can just imagine entertaining out here with the sunset over the mountains.

back deck cart

A beautiful bar cart, all set up for entertaining.

Didn’t you love Jenna Sue’s house? I was agape the whole time I was looking at her house tour. I knew you’d all love it too, such a fantastic 70’s renovation!

flourish

Painting furniture is such a great way to refresh and renew an old piece that you’re not in love with anymore.  Stop over to my latest guide at Ebay and see all the ways I’ve renovated many of my old pieces of furniture.  Click the pic!

Hello Rhoda , this redo reminds me of your redo of your beautiful home. Today this somewhat of a different post from me to you. Going through your divorce ( and yes I have followed you from way back then ) I sent in several post tellin You I was praying for you and giving you scripture along the way to encourage you . One of the things I love the most about you is your love of The Lord. So today I would like to ask you for your prayers for our daughter. She became engaged to a guy she dated in high school. He went to the navy in California. The engagement was on New Year’s Eve and this past week he broke that engagement stating he was about fun and having good times and she was neither of those. No kidding Rhoda this was his reason. In the time since high school she has matured into a lovely woman she works comes home and pays her own bills. He told her he was not ready to be a husband. She of course is numb from the hurt and I felt that you could understand a little of what she is going through and felt compelled to ask you for your thoughts and prayers. If in your quiet time you would lift her up in prayer it would mean a lot to me. Her name is Allison she is beautiful but he has reduced to a mess right now and I would appreciate your prayers. Thank you Carole

HI, Carole, I’m so so sorry to hear this about your daughter. Life is so hard sometimes. I know she can’t see it now, but perhaps this is for the best for her. If he is not the man she needs to marry, it so much better for it to end now and for her to find out who he really is. I know her heart hurts, but one day she will see it more clearly. I’ll be praying for Allison! God most definitely has a good plan for her life and if she trusts Him, she will find it.

Very pretty and fresh–now I really can’t wait to get started on my daughter’s new house (the one that I posted on FB). After they take care of some issues outside with a retaining wall and trees around the pool, we’ll start with the painting. Such good inspiration! Just have to remember to take lots of before shots to really appreciate it!

This home is gorgeous. Of course I’m partial to the wall where the fireplace is because I have the exact same wall. Small world indeed.
