Meet Marty from Marty’s Musings, a sweet blogger from NC, who is a wife and homeschooling mom. She’s passionate about making her house a home and with the help of her DIY loving hubby, they’ve worked on every part of their home, making it a cozy retreat for their family. Marty says her house is modest, but they’ve made it their own by DIYing and taking the time to personalize each space. Hope you enjoy meeting Marty and reading her sweet story. She loves shopping thriftstores and yardsales, repurposing many things along the way. She’s also a woman of faith and I love connecting with other Christian bloggers.
Marty’s home from the exterior.
Marty’s living room which is cozy and warm. Check out the coffee table made of an old window and scrap wood by her DIY hubby.
I’m sure there are lots of family gatherings in this space.
A large entertaining red sofa is perfect for TV watching. And a gallery wall of family is warm and inviting.
Marty’s dining room hutch has been given a transformation with chalk paint and hard work.
Her hubby came up with a unique backsplash for the kitchen, these rustic planks. Love this idea!
And check out how she repurposed an old chandelier with mason jars. Too cute!
Another chalk painted sideboard.
A cute chalkboard on the kitchen walls.
Now this space really makes me jealous. I’d love to have a whole room dedicated to paint supplies and crafting.
This ribbon organization is great, it’s all right in front of you to choose from.
Her daughter’s teen bedroom is so cute and vibrant.
With a scripture verse on the wall and turquoise pompoms, what a cheerful space.
One of Marty’s favorite projects is updating a bathroom, with a rustic vessel sink and those aqua baskets for organization. With a larger family, it’s important to stay organized.
I’m sure her hubby built this pieces and it’s very cute and quaint, with open shelves for baskets.
Hope you enjoyed Marty’s home tour today and I would love for you to stop over and meet Marty. She’s a sweet gal!

My question is this…how do you keep the sofa/chairs/loveseats from sliding on laminate (wood look) flooring without a rug under them? I want to do away with my rug in this area and so far, the only thing that minimally works is cutting up squares of that rubberized mesh material called a carpet grabber and placing them under the legs of the furniture. Any other ideas? Thanks so much. 🙂
Marty Walden says
We’ve never had any problems with the sofas sliding around on the wood flooring (they’re hardwoods in the living room and Pergo flooring in the den). We have had many pets over the years and doing away with carpet was the best option for our family.

I love the back slash and the bathroom sink ! I also would love to watch a football game with a whole gang of people while relaxing on the gorgeous red sofa!
Marty Walden says
The red sofa is the best! We’ve never had a sectional before but we love it! There are 8 of us when everyone is home and we cram into the den together!
Martha says
All of Marty’s hard work to make her house a home paid off. It looks like a warm an inviting place…one we’d all love to visit!

Marty, I found you while trying to figure out how to do Twitter! I love Rhoda’s blog! What a warm and welcoming home and your husband sure is talented with wood! Love so many things about your home. Your daughters room with the bible verse is divine, the plank back splash, gallery wall in the living room and the mason jar chandy. Very cool! Love how you made your space your own. Wow! Your craft room is really something! So neat and organized. Also, thanks Rhoda for your feature Friday’s!

Our home is a blessing! I completely believe a home doesn’t have to be new or large to be a wonderful place for family. Thank you for commenting!

This picture is so funny now because we had the trees taken down in front and it’s all bare now, waiting for a deck to be built!

I looked at these photos and was surprised with organization of colors here and there… Red sofa is a wonderful family idea. And I enjoyed the craft room and chalk desk in kitchen. It seems to me that Marty is always ready to create something impressive and adorable within her house.

Marty:
As a homeschooler myself I marvel at how well you have used your space. Once question though – where do you school the kids? Do you have a separate room in the basement, or do they just take over the dining room table. Where do you put all the books, projects and papers?
You house feels real to me, and that is what makes it so appealing. Praise the Lord for the wonderful gifts He gives to us.
Rhoda says
HI, Mandy, I don’t think Marty will see this question, but if you want to click over to her blog and leave a message, I’m sure she will answer you. THanks!
