Feature Friday: Master Bedroom Makeover

Picture 013

My friend, Debbie, finally got her bedroom done.  She’s changed out the linens in here a couple of times in the last few years and finally found something she wouldn’t get tired of so fast.  I think it turned out fabulously.

Picture 007

She will ask my advice on decorating projects, but then again, she has a good eye too and knows what she likes.  She finally settled on this pretty robin’s egg blue bedding, found some fabric for drapes and shams and got it done.  Picture 028

She found the comforter set, I think at Belks and then added her own fabrics for a more custom look.  The paisley with the rusty red tones really accent the blue fabric.  Picture 010

We went shopping one night looking for drapery  hardware and I told her we should try Lowes.  Lo and behold, these pretty coppery rods were on clearance for around $12 each, if I remember right.  Great price on hardware and the copper tones pick up the red in the fabric so well.  Debbie made these drapes all by herself and she is not an expert seamstress (or so she tells me).  I was totally impressed by how they came out, lined and everything.  That’s not a separate topper, but it’s sewn together with the main fabric. Picture 009

I love the contrast of the greeny/gold walls (Sherwin Williams Harmonic Tan) with the fabrics and it was already here from another variation in this room.  Luckily, it worked out great with the new fabrics too.

Picture 011

We found a pretty piece of artwork, an original oil, that has all the colors of the room in it.  She’s going to paint the frame a darker color to work better.   All the furniture is new to the room too.  This painted chest is a good accent piece. Picture 014

This is all Broyhill furniture and I helped her pick this out too last year.  It’s got some rustic charm, but still traditional (and it’s dark, dark brown not black).  I just heard her say she almost wishes she had not bought a set of matching bedroom furniture and gone the eclectic route.  That’s OK, we have other rooms to work on, Deb.  I’ve had to gently lead Debbie into the world of vintage finds and she didn’t come along all that easy, but I think I’ve finally convinced her of the beauty of vintage and painting old pieces.  🙂  She even said she wants to go yardsaling with me.  Now, that I’ll have to see to believe! Picture 012

Debbie styled the top very nicely. Picture 015

And has fallen for the birds like so many of us have.

Picture 029

The Pottery Barn Nest pillow was a present for her 50th birthday, from her kids, I think.  It’s perfect in here! Picture 021

And the bathroom got a makeover too.  That soft blue-green made it to the walls in here.  This is Sherwin Williams Quietude, one shade darker than my Rainwashed.  Lovely color, huh?Picture 020

She repainted the cabinets too and added a little glaze. Picture 022

Along with a vinyl saying over the window, appropriate for this space.

Picture 024

All ready for a soak in the tub.

I hope you enjoyed Debbie’s master bedroom makeover.  I thought it turned out so great and wanted to show it off for her.  We’ve been friends now for 4 years and love hanging out together.

I showed you their farmhouse here and here,  if you’d like to go back and see those pics. They live out in the country with other family members nearby and have a beautiful piece of property with a pond in the backyard.  A true Southern farmhouse style in an idyllic setting.

I’ve got a few more updates of Debbie’s house that I’ll show you later.   She used the beadboard wallpaper in a powder room AND my thrifting habits are rubbing off on her finally. 🙂

This is a gorgeous bedroom. It is hard to get away from sets of furniture and matching everything. My parents bought our bedroom set as a gift. It is traditional and lovely but I may break it up and move some pieces into other rooms in the future.

Wow, Debbie’s bedroom turned out beautifully! I love the fabrics, the wall color, the birds, everything! Love Love Love that black furniture too.

Debbie, I’m like you…it’s hard for me to go with vintage things. Don’t know why except that I don’t have the patience to wait and stumble across things. 🙂

This is beautiful. I really need to get some more of my rooms to you so I can finish up our house. Our decorating has been kind of slow though. But this room above is certainly enough to inspire me to get started again.

Very beautiful makeover! I especially love the paisley fabric seeing that I just purchased a yard to make some accent pillows. The colors are so rich and elegant. Thanks for sharing…can’t wait to see more of Debbie’s house.

What a gorgeous retreat! I love all the colors together. That blue is beautiful. And I adore that Nest pillow from PB. I ordered several new pillows recently and they were all out of it. I was so disappointed!

Hi Rhoda! Oh, you did a great job helping Debbie with her lovely room. I love the bedroom and the linens are so pretty! She did a fab job on the curtains. I need to redo my bedroom. I’m coveting just a bit! 🙂
    Be a sweetie,

The bedroom is beautiful! She did a great job with the window treatment. I am curious about the “greeny gold” color of Debbie’s bedroom. I have a similar color in my living room. My color is Winter Garden, and I think it’s a Behr paint.
I have a moss green sofa and a pale gold chair and matching ottoman in my space. My artwork is abstract with reds and oranges in each piece. The focal point is the abstract canvas, “Warmth,” from Ballard. I didn’t like my wall color at first, but it works with the furnishings and art work.

I’m wondering about the paint color of Debbie’s room. If it is the same color I’ve used, I am surprised that blue works so well with it. I guess it’s more of a neutral than I realized. Would you be able to find out the name of the paint color she used? Thanks, Rhoda!

Wow. If you hadn’t told me you purchased the linens I would have sworn they were high $$ customs. I LOVE that. I am starting to think about redoing my master too and will be on the lookout for simple linens that I could match up with some gorgeous fabric. The whole room is gorgeous, but the linens are inspiring (too me anyway)! Thanks for sharing.

Joyce, I just added Debbie’s paint color in the post. She told me yesterday it is Sherwin Williams Harmonic Tan. I wouldn’t have thought it would have worked so well with the blue, but it certainly does.

Rhoda, I want to redo my master bedroom and bath, and I was thinking about the Robins Egg Blue shade. Now after seeing these colors brought together, i’m convinced that’s what I want. I wish we had a Belks store near us. I went back to the earlier post showing Debbies house. It calms my soul just looking at those pictures. “Thank You” for sharing all the great ideas with us. I enjoy your blog a lot. God Bless you!
