Feature Friday: Maurie’s Basement Reno

I have seen some fantastic basement renovations at the Street of Dreams homes before, but when I saw this real life one from new blogger friend, Maurie over at Gracious Interiors, it really caught my eye.  Talk about taking the basement look out of a basement, they have done the trick with this one.  Maurie is a wife, mother/grandmother, and homemaker from Pennsylvania and I certainly think she has missed her calling.  She could definitely be a designer! Marie tells all about her renovation that took place 2 years ago,  in this post and says that they did the full scale remodel after their kids were grown, had kids of their own and they quickly realized that they were out of bedroom space for them to come back and visit.  So, their goal was to build a media room, small kitchen, bedroom, bathroom, and exercise space.  After a lot of tweaking on the plans and ideas from designers and builders, a plan was formed and work was completed.  She highlights a lot of the decisions they made along the way and mentioned that the extra foot on the ceilings that she insisted on when they built the house, really was a life-saver when it came time to do this renovation, since there is always ductwork and other things to work around in a basement space.

You can see all the attention to detail that Maurie executed in her basement renovation and how beautifully it all came together.

The media room is really a focal point and don’t you just love that huge banquette/sleeping alcove there next to the fireplace and flat screen TV?  What a fantastic space, Maurie! You and your family must really enjoy it now.  It certainly does not look anything like a basement now.   The rock on the wall adds so much texture and interest too, as well as the hardwood floors. The guestroom is serene and calming. And the bathroom is just dreamy with the natural stone floors and shower wall.   What a beautiful space.

Maurie, thank you for letting me share your basement renovation with my readers.  I just know they will enjoy it as much as I did!  I hope you’ll all go over and introduce yourself to Maurie, if you haven’t met her already.  She’s a talented lady!

What a truly fantastic basement renovation.

Many basements suffer from damp which makes it nearly impossible to create any kind of living environment that’s safe for human health. But the problems of damp can be completely removed by installing basement waterproofing.

Installing a DPC can be a difficult procedure so it’s best to get expert help or advice. The process can involve removing sections of the wall and installing the DPC. Therefore it’s a good idea to get in the experts.

What a beautiful, inviting space. LOVE that quartet of tufted chairs. I can just picture all the grown-ups lounging and chatting – while the grandkids fight in the background over who gets to sleep in the alcove bed tonight!

This is a fantastic renovation…..beyond fantastic!!!!!!

She really outdid herself on that job!

Doesn’t look anything like a dark, dank and scary basement.

It’s light-filled and comfortable and elegant.

    What a joy!

    Hugs,
    Lana
