Feature Friday: Sweet Shady Lane

This is a repeat Feature Friday, but so good this time of year. Enjoy Sweet Shady Lane all over again! This was originally published in 2018.

*********************************************

Happy Friday friends!  It’s an extra special Friday for us as we are leaving tomorrow for New England. A week on Cape Cod!  I’m just about giddy with excitement, since this is my first time visiting this beautiful area of our country. I’ve always wanted to go and now I get to experience it with Mark. He’s been 3 or 4 times and loves it, so I’m sure it’s going to be a favorite destination for both of us after this trip.

Speaking of New England, today’s Feature Friday is influenced heavily by Nantucket style with nautical influences, which makes sense since she lives on a lake. Meet Heather with Sweet Shady Lane. I first saw her on Instagram, discovered she has a blog (which isn’t really updated in awhile, she spends her time on Instagram), and I just love her style! If ever there was a style that I would want to emulate, it would be the vintage, classic style of Nantucket and New England.  That style is my most favorite and I definitely have an affinity for classic and traditional mixed in this way.  Lots of blue and white, antiques, vintage collectibles, just a beautiful way to live.  I asked Heather if I could share her home with you and she agreed, so I’m so happy to feature her today. You will fall in love with her home, named Mona Bina, meaning Home for all.

Heather has truly created one of the most beautiful homes I’ve ever seen. The exterior of Mona Bina is just breathtaking, sitting on the shores of a lake in Minnesota. Her blog documents the extensive renovation of the house and grounds, which was shared back in 2013 on her blog. It’s a gorgeous renovation, as you will see below!

I don’t know all the history on the house, but it’s a gorgeous setting on the lake with classical architecture and beautiful surroundings. The landscaping and entire home are absolutely stunning. I’m not going to try to describe it all, just enjoy these amazing pictures from Heather’s home.

Heather was just interviewed for another online site, Cafe Design, so you can learn more about her there.

I know you are as blown away by Heather’s home as I was.  I truly love her home more than any other home I’ve seen lately. The classical design, vintage finds, water views, and the way she has woven her home stories on her Instagram page are very inspiring.  I could only hope to emulate a part of this beautiful Nantucket style myself, but Heather will definitely be an inspiration to me as we continue with our house story as well.

Have a great weekend, friends! I’ll be back with LOTS of photos of Cape Cod to share with you after our vacation.  I’m so excited about this trip and cannot wait to experience it myself!

I discovered Heather’s Instagram page about a year ago. I agree: hands down the prettiest home out there!! She has absolutely impeccable taste. Impeccable. Every time I see her kitchen it makes me want to go clean mine-and the rest of my house-ha! 🙂

I am just wondering how do people keep up with these homes. The older I get the more I realize it takes time and money to keep up houses. I feel like I am drowning to keep mine up and I don’t nearly have the size of that home. Just wondering a little on the reality of that.

Hi, Lynn, as with any home, they have to be maintained, so I’m sure they do it just as any of us do. Large or small, houses take upkeep. It sure is beautiful.

Yes it is a beautiful home , and I’m sure they have help for the upkeep, most of us can’t afford. I would rather spend my extra money on travel to the beautiful parks in the USA and have my little home to come back to.

Gorgeous home! I’d love to emulate it as well! Rhoda: You should go to Cape Cod in the summer! Hope it’s not too cold for you up there now. I’m sure the hydrengeas aren’t in bloom right now, and Cape Cod is definitely known for all the hydrengeas! Have fun anyway!

Hi, Uta, we will miss the hydrangeas, but hoping there is fall leaves turning and that will be just fine.

Enjoy Cape Cod! We went for several summers watching 2 of our boys play summer baseball while they were in college. Many fond memories!

As a New Englander, her house is very much the style of high-end houses on and near the water! So welcoming, love it!

Love the Cape especially out at the end. Beautiful beaches and shops. If you guys have the opportunity, spend a day in Newport, Rhode Island and visit the amazing mansions!

Enjoy your trip to our neck of the woods!! We live in a suburb of Boston. (Feel free to stop by to see my 15 year in the making kitchen renovation!! 🙌🙌) (wait, call 🤙🏻 It’s as the rest of my house looks like a tornado 🌪 hit it from the reno!!😬.) Anyway, you will hopefully see some beautiful fall colors. Usually they are past by now but not this year. My 30th wedding anniversary is 10/28. I was out with my daughter (backsplash shopping ☺️🛍) this week and mentioned how for my wedding the leaves 🍂 had fallen but this year there are still tons of green so more beauty 🍁to come. Enjoy our beautiful state!!! I can’t wait to see posts. ( btw you must drive up rt 6A much prettier than rt 28 on the cape!!) enjoy!!

Hi, Colleen, good luck with your kitchen renovation! We are so excited for this trip. Was hoping that the leaves would still be pretty, so maybe we’ll see some of them between the rain showers. I’m taking my rain coat and we will make the best of the weather!

This home is just beautiful. I usually look at posts and run through in my mind what I would have done differently but this house is perfect. In the northeast we are not having the best fall – both weather and leaf wise so I hope that you have sunshine and breathtaking foliage. I lived in Vermont and New England can be spectacular in the fall. You should enjoy how different the coast is from Florida where you have vacationed. Have a great trip.

Wow, I never thought I’d be so incredibly jealous of two dogs but I am! They get to live in that gorgeous home and I…don’t. And they didn’t lift a paw to decorate or pay for it.

The circular ceiling area filled with books is to die for.

There’s barely a wall in those pics that isn’t covered in custom mill work. That’s what really sets this home apart. The best interiors always seem to be white, and mill work makes good white interiors a cinch. Gloriously beautiful, all of it, inside and out.
