Framing Botanicals

I had a group of blue botanicals that I framed a few years ago. Using frames from Hobby Lobby and having mats cut myself, I saved a ton of money over custom framing.  Not surprised at that, are you?  I love to find frugal ways to do things around the home.

blue botanicals

So, when I moved in my new bedroom, those blue botanicals just seemed a little stale and I really loved the idea of some brighter green botanicals, so I hunted some down at Scott Antiques one month.  I paid $10 a piece for these vintage botanical bookplates of ferns.

original botanicals

Here are all 3 of the originals.  I love their vibrant colors.

But, they were a tad too small for my frames.  In talking to one of my décor friend, Maureen, she knows a thing or 2 about enlarging prints, so I scanned them and sent them to her and just that fast, she had them enlarged and sent off to print on some nice paper. I was so excited at how they turned out.

take off the backing

To install them, I took off the paper backing.  Don’t really need it anyway, it’s not shown once hung on the wall.

And then simply take off the old print and place the new one on, taping it around the back.  Add the cardboard backing back on and staple it in and they are ready to hang up again.

green botanicals

Tada!  New green botanicals.

frame close

I used a standard 16×20 frame and then  had mats cut to fit my prints and these look nice and custom.  I love these frames from Hobby Lobby, although I don’t think they carry these anymore.

master bedroom

I really love my bedroom, did I mention that?  It’s such a peaceful place for me.

master bed

So glad to have a nice big bedroom too.

pillows and art

The colors make me happy.

And that’s the little update on my new green botanicals.  It’s really easy to change things out like this, so this is something anyone can try.  I’ve always loved the look of botanicals, they are classic and timeless.

Do you like botanicals too?

Rhoda, I’ve decided to buy some of those wood blinds thanks to you and your bloggers comments regarding how good they look. However my question is do you think I could install them myself? I know you Dad helps you a little but do you think you could of done it all by yourself or would a novice DIY need help? It will make a difference on when I can order them.
    Love your ideas.

HI, Judi, I installed all my blinds by myself, no help from my dad, so YES, you can do it too. Just requires putting some screws up with the metal bolts that come with the blinds.

I want to make or buy some picture matting to custom size without the custom price. Where do you get yours?

Teri, I get my mats cut at Hobby Lobby for the most part. They are reasonable.
