Fresh Ideas from Tobi Fairley: Traditional Home

I’ve always admired the talent of Little Rock designer, Tobi Fairley.  She has  fresh and beautifully detailed designs that never fail to catch my eye.  She’s done it again with this recent feature in Traditional Home.  You can click that link for all the details on this home. She’s the cutest thing too! And not afraid of color.  I love that!  Monotone need not apply in Tobi’s designs.

After being named by readers at the Arkansas Times as the state’s Best Interior Designer, Tobi was asked to design two rooms in an energy-efficient charity showhouse near Hot Springs.

She enlivened the master bedroom and attached sunroom with a tangerine-and-turquoise color combo, using a mix of new and recycled furnishings, organic fabrics, and low-VOC (volatile organic compounds) paints.Notice that she does keep the backdrop walls neutral and keeps those pops of color in furnishings and accessories.  Looks like a natural fiber rug on the floor. Those blues and tangerines play together so nicely and even if this is not something you’d like to duplicate at home, you can see that mixing colors that are opposite on the color wheel will work every single time to infuse excitement in a space. This is a beautiful shot of coral tulips just splashing some energy on this side table and notice the orange book too.  So pretty!  Those drapes and lamp are yummy too.

Now, here’s a great idea that we all could do at home.   Take those mis-matched frames and paint them all out a vibrant color, hang them on the wall strategically and wow, what a pretty wall.  I’ve seen this done in blogland too.  Inexpensive and fun!

Did you get some inspiration from Tobi and some ideas for your home?  I so enjoyed this feature from the talented Tobi Fairley.

I love painted furniture. I want to redo my living room into an art studio, and I would love to have some brightly painted shelves in there. The room is lovely. Thanks for posting about Tobi’s pretty room!

*love* this post!! while my colors are a bit different, i’m hoping to transform my living room in a similar way. i *love* that the walls are neutral, which has sooo many applications for folks like me who rent and/or are somewhere short term and don’t want to invest time/energy/$$$ into painting, but into things they can walk away from the home with.

    brilliant! thanks for sharing! 🙂

That is one of my favorite color combos, along with turquoise and red! And why haven’t I done that anywhere in our house? Tobi did an excellent job of course, and I want that room!

Having grown up in the 50’s & 60’s, I lived thru those combos before. I love shades of turquoise to aquas. But I will be glad to see orange die away. Hate orange, but it is probably because of my sister’s bedroom color choice after I married. The over style of the room is nice. Glad to see the use of the neutral walls with punches of color in other ways.

Hi Rhoda, I love those frames, and the drapery fabric is pure heaven. I enjoy seeing old pieces painted and reused. I hope you have a very Merry Christmas, Carol

Oh my goodness, I looove this! Its weird because I am just putting together a color scheme for our guest room and have decided on light blues, neutral beiges, and pops of deep coral, so similar to this! Thanks for sharing the photos – great inspiration.
