(Giveaway is Closed)

In recent years, the “slow movement” has been making a comeback. Have you heard about slow food, slow textiles, and other slow movements? It’s the opposite of how many of us are living now: glued to the latest technology, fast-paced lives, hurried and frenzied days. Sound familiar? Well, the slow movement is all about slowing down and remembering how things used to be. Before we all got into this hectic lifestyle. And slowing down is really a good thing for families.
According to author Shannon Honeybloom, it all starts at home. In her new book, Making a Family Home, she shows readers room-by-room how to cultivate an enriching shelter, one that encourages children to learn and imagine.
Combining the mindfulness of modern homemakers with an understanding of childhood development, and an attention to universal truths such as love, goodness, and beauty, Honeybloom outlines simple steps towards creating a beautiful and nurturing home.
“Anxiety-driven over-parenting has reach a peak, and parents everywhere are yearning to get ‘back to basics’ at home and with their children,” says Honeybloom, a parent and former educator. “In the end, it’s not about enrichment classes, educational videos, multiple after-school activities. It’s not about spending a lot of money or buying a lot of things. It’s about creating a calm, beautiful, and healthy home for our families. Such a home is the foundation for happiness and success in the world.”
It’s a soft-cover book with full color pictures and lots of good and practical ideas on making your home a haven for your children. She addresses all the rooms in the house, as well as outdoor spaces and her ideas are specifically geared towards nurturing a comfortable and creative environment for the kids.
I received a free copy of the book to review for myself and they are giving away 3 copies of the book to my readers, so all you have to do is leave a comment here to be eligible.
Giveaway will be open until Sunday evening at 6 pm Central time.

I’ve become so busy with my every-day life, I’ve kind of lost track of what it means to be able to come home to a nuturing, welcoming place. Maybe this book will get me back on track.
I think this is great, I cannot wait to read and see the wonderful ideas inside this book!
Sounds intriguing! Thanks Rhoda, for the opportunity to add this volume to my

I also have been trying to live the slower life as well. This book is a great idea.
Sounds like a great read – thanks!
This is so needed now! I am married to a minister, do alot of volunteer work and sometimes my life just gets crazy..even if you are doing good things, you still need to slow down and catch your breath. (see, I am in such a hurry, look how long that sentence was…LOL) would love and need a copy of this book. Your blog is so refreshing (we lived in your area for 5 years and our children still do)– God bless you!
Sounds inspiring! Thanks:)
I have three grown children and 6 grandchildren. Some friends and I were visiting about how fast life is now with all the technology and choices in life. What happened to long sit-down Sunday dinners where you really visited and talked to one another. Now it’s hurry, hurry, we have to get here or go there. Life flies by without us always taking the “fast” lane in life. I would love to read this book. Thanks for the giveaway!
Yes, home should be a haven. Please sign me up.
I would love to win this book…what a great reminder for us! At least once a day, I have to remind myself that my kids will not be 6 and 2 forever, so I better enjoy it while I can.
This sounds very exciting. I have recently come to realize that I personally need to start slowing down. Any ideas, thoughts, suggestions to help me achieve that would be very welcome.
Sounds like an interesting read. Thanks!
Hi Rhoda,
I can’t believe your mentioning this movement my step daughter, Elise has just been telling me about it. In Australia we actually have a couple of slow communities. Elise has voluntered her time at one of these, to learn all about how it works as both her and I just love the concept. I would love to win the book for her.
Still loving your blog thanks for all you give of yourself in it I benefit greatly.
Regards,
From Theresa down under.
I need a reminder to slow down…I have 3 boys that keep me very busy. This book could help me out tremendously I’m sure of it! Thank you Rhoda! 🙂
This sounds like the perfect book for me at the time in my life! Thanks for hosting this Rhoda!
Would love to win this and pass it on to my daughter who along with her husband is raising 3 little ones. This has been my
mantra for the last year or so. I just want to “be” and not “do” all the time. Thanks for sharing!
I love reading any books or blogs that give me ideas about making my house a home. After 25 years of being a wife and 24 years of being a mother (I have 6 children and 1 grandson) I never tire of the subject. I even wanted to major in Home Ec. Go figure!
I would love to read this book. I have grown children and I am also a former teacher. I wholeheartedly agree that families desperately need to slow down and have more quality family time. I believe children today have lost that sense of security that children used to have when mother was home when they left for school and there when they came home. Families sat down at the dinner table at night and had a nourishing meal together. I would love to read more about “the slow movement”!
