Outdoor Curb Appeal: Lowes $100 Giveaway!

{GIVEAWAY IS CLOSED}

The winner is:  #262: Chelsea Duncan!

Our Lowe’s challenge this month was to spruce up an outdoor area and give it more curb appeal. I knew instantly what I would do and that is, change out these pitiful light fixtures. Lowes has some really nice ones for not a lot of money.

Lowes lights

I picked out these two beauties and they were $40 each. Not bad at all for adding that curb appeal.

007

This pretty little black lantern will go over the front door.

008

I got out the ladder and started taking down the old fixture. If you have been following my blog for awhile, you know that I am not afraid to tackle light fixtures and changed out every light fixture in my old house myself. It’s not hard once you get the hang of it. I’ll show you more on that below.

012

The old one came down.  YAY!

021

And the new one went up. Look how cute it looks with my glass front door!

022

It’s very simple and elegant with seeded glass.

Here’s are simple instructions on DIYing your own light fixtures.  Someone asked me this and YES, turn OFF the power to your lightswitch by turning off the breaker.  I will confess, that I sometimes just make sure the switch is in the OFF position on the wall and that stops the power from coming through too, but that is not the proper way to do it.  Do as I say, not as I do.  Be safe!

015

Here’s the back porch fixture. I thought I’d show you how easy it is to connect these. Black wire to black wire and white one to white. Wrap the copper ground wire around the little screw that is marked Ground. Screw the plate in and line up the bolts. 016

The base of the fixture has holes that the screws slide through and then the cap nut goes on top.

024

Much better, don’t you think?

025

Beautiful and simple Craftsman style fixture and now the porch will look SO much better. I can hardly wait to get on this porch to enjoy it all!

And Lowes is giving away to ONE of my readers a $100 giftcard to help you out with a project of your own!  What will you spend your giftcard on if you win?

Do you have an outdoor project you’d like to do soon?  Tell me in the comments and I’ll choose a winner in a few days!

Note:  I received a Lowes giftcard to complete my outdoor project.

I need to replace a light fixture outside my basement door that has seen better days. Love your new fixtures. The one at your front door is very similar to the two I put up last year at my front door. Thanks for the opportunity, Rhoda.

I totally agree with you. I would use the gift card to replace horrendous outdoor lighting. Lowe’s has great PB knock offs for SO much cheaper! My kind of store!! Lori Lucas

Love those fixtures! They look so much better!

We just got a new garage door put on and now we need to paint the garage. The white door sure does show how faded the rest of the paint job is! 🙂

I would love to purchase some new patio furniture. My husband works 2nd shift and enjoys spending his mornings in the sun. With some comfy patio furniture, I just might join him! =)

I like those fixtures!! Nice choices. I’ve got indoor lights from Lowe’s, good deals and everyone loves them. If I won, my wheelchair needs new textured outdoor paint to keep it safe and some paint for the rails, too. Kudos again on your choices. Big difference.

Just the post that I need!!!!! As well as new outdoor lights. I need something to go by my garage that my basketball playing son and his friends cannot break!!!!! We have been looking at outdoor lights for the last couple of months and I really like the 2nd one. It looks like it can stand up to teenage basketball playing boys.

    Several things:
A large wrought iron hanger to hold my new bird feeder, and some colorful new patio cushions to replace my dull, faded ones.

I really need to change out the light in my foyer. It’s original to my 1950’s house. Time for a change.

Love your new lights! I am working on adding shelving in my laundry room. Right now it has one tiny wire shelf so if I won I would go all out and buy a pretty white cabinet to put my laundry detergents in 🙂 Thanks for hosting this giveaway!

My son’s high school graduation is soon and we are trying to fix up the house for a party. A Lowe’s gift card would come in handy!
I guess I would use it for paint or brick pavers. Tks so much!

Gosh, I sure wish I was doing a fun outdoor project this summer – unless you consider deck staining and driveway resurfacing fun. A Lowe’s gift card would sure help with either project!

We lost a couple trees over the last 2 winters and I would love to replace them. Trees are few and precious here on the high plains! 🙂

Front and back light fixtures look about as bad as yours did. I need to replace both of those.
