Stealing Magnolias: Tales from a New Orleans Courtyard

{Giveaway is Closed}

Blogging has had some wonderful perks for me and one of them is that I get asked to do book reviews on beautiful books. Books that I might never come across otherwise. This new book, Stealing Magnolias: Tales from a New Orleans Courtyard, recently landed in my mailbox and it is truly a beautiful and inspiring coffee table book that I think you will love.Especially if you enjoy visiting New Orleans.  I’ve been to that historic city a handful of times and always enjoy the architecture, food (can you say beignets?), and ambiance.

Author Debra Shriver is an Alabama native, who now splits her time between New York City and a historic old home in New Orleans.  She’s an admitted Francofile, and avid photography collector, a devotee of jazz, and a passionate preservationist. Whether it’s food, gardens, decor, decoration, architecture or design, this book engages the reader to experience every element of one of the world’s most romantic cities.  Debra shares pics of her own Vieux Carre home in New Orleans that she has lovingly collected for and decorated.

Readers will find themselves enthralled by exploring a unique and lavish compilation of original works by more than twenty photographers and artists who share her vision, such as George Rodrigues (known for his Blue dog paintings)and best-selling author and “Queen of Junk” Mary Randolph Carter.

You can find copies of the book here, if you’re interested in purchasing.

I’ll be going to New Orleans again in just a week for the first time since Katrina hit.  My niece is having a wedding shower down there.  She moved there last summer, after getting a job and apartment and promptly got engaged to a guy she went to law school with and has been dating for well over a year.  Her wedding is coming up in March and she will settle with her new hubby in New Orleans.  I’ll definitely be sharing the wedding details with you too.

This truly is a beautiful book that you would be proud to own.  The editors are offering ONE of my readers the chance to enjoy your very own copy of  Stealing Magnolias (retail value $60).

All you have to do is leave a comment!  Have you been to New Orleans before and what did you enjoy MOST about this historic city?

I love the beignets and can’t wait to sit at Cafe Du Monde nibbling on those delicate treats and a creamy cup of coffee.

My father was born and raised in New Orleans…I have such fond memories of visiting my grandparents, aunts and uncles and cousins. New Orleans is a magical place, with amazing food, and an ambiance unlike any other city. Thank you for the chance to win a little reminder of this beautiful city.

Ms. Rhoda, been to New Orleans numerous times and I love it now just like I did the first time I was ever there.
There is absolutely nothing that I don’t like about. The culture there is so wonderful. There are some things I guess
people are leary of, but you have to look past that. We are planning to attend Mardi Gras, and thats another one of
    their experiences/cultures that we enjoy.

I love New Orleans, the people, food, shopping, entertainment, beautiful old homes, street cars, ghost stories, cemetaries – it’s just a wonderful Southern gem. Oh, and my roommate from college lives there so I get to see her too!

Rhoda- Lovely review of the book. It looks wonderful.

We were in New Orleans a while back around Christmastime, and I remember a trip on the river the most. And the food. Yum!

I love New Orleans. My husband and I live in Louisiana so we go often. We are planning a trip there in April. I love the whole city but some of my favorite things about visiting this city are the French Quarter, the food and music, and attending Saints Games!

New Orleans is my mothers favorite city. She was born and raised in South Louisiana but now resides in Texas. She is always talking about New Orleans and how she loves it. I would love to give this book to her to enjoy and bring back some memories.

I love to visit New Orleans. I grew up in South Mississippi and whenever we had out of town guests, they wanted to go to New Orleans and wander the French Quarter. I have a good friend who is living down there now and I can’t wait to go see her.

I live only 70 miles West of New Orleans in Baton Rouge and when I say that driving such a short distance and being in a completely different world is always beyond amazing to me…..I heart New Orleans for so many reasons. My sister is a police officer there and has truly weathered the storm from her home in Lakeview. You ask my favorite thing of the city: I would have to say the Tenacity of the entire city, you can truly FEEL it in the air.

New Orleans was my first introduction to the south as we drove from our former home in San Diego to our new home in Huntsville, Alabama. Like you, I love the beignets at Cafe du Monde, photographing the beautiful decay of the French Quarter, strolling down Magazine Street and swooning over the gorgeous homes and lush landscape. I enjoyed touring Lafayette Cemetary Number One and exploring the different neighborhoods — each one is so unique and story-filled. We only had 24 hours in New Orleans and I can’t wait to go back.

    Rhoda,

This is the one historical city I have not been to…yet. (I had planned to go the year Katrina hit.) This book looks like a treasure filled with elegant, romantic decor and architecture. What a generous giveaway. Thank you for including me.

    Your Friend,
    Deborah
