This post is sponsored by Houzz, but I happen to love the platform and look forward to introducing you to Houzz if you haven’t met them yet.  Finding a professional is so necessary when we are looking to improve our homes and Houzz is a top go-to for finding professional help as well as finding beautiful inspiration photos for each room in the house.

Where do you go for home inspiration?  As a fellow decoraholic, I’m sure most of you can relate to loving all things home.  Where do you go when you are ready to redecorate or you want to start a remodeling project?  Projects require planning and to plan correctly you have to know where you want to end up so that’s why it’s so important to get inspiration photos ahead of time so you can decide where and how you want your project to go.

Our homes are our haven and we really should surround ourselves with furnishings, color, and accessories that make us feel the best.  Home is where we relax and live with our families and our house should envelop us with warm comforting arms every day!

Before starting any project, it’s important to know how you want the room to look and feel, as well as how it will function once you finish your project.  It always helps me to look at pics of finished rooms and pull out the elements that I love and want to emulate myself.
My personal style has changed and evolved so much over the last 10 years since I started writing this blog.  I really try to stay away from super trendy home decor ideas and stay with classic and timeless style.  That seems to be what works for us at this stage in life, so those are the inspiration photos that draw me in the most.
One of our favorite things to do is go through local home tours and see design ideas in person.  Mark and I both enjoy strolling through houses getting ideas to take home with us.

What’s your style?  Farmhouse, modern, cottage chic, traditional, Boho, eclectic or a mix of several of these?

There is a lot of inspiration out there nowadays, but one of my favorites for home renovation, decor, and more is Houzz.

There are so many different styles of rooms to look at and you’ll get ideas for so many spaces in your home.  Searching by room and style is easy with page after page of beautiful Houzz images right at your fingertips.  In fact, Houzz has the largest database of home design photos  and ideasof any site out there, with over 15 millions pics!  That’s a lot of inspiration!
We’ve been doing so many projects around our house, several of which require professionals.  There are many projects that we don’t want to try to tackle and we know our limitations.
Did you know about Houzz and their Find a Pro service?

If you’re looking for an interior designer, architect, contractor, landscape professional and more, Houzz has a directory that lets you find a professional in your area, complete with portfolios and reviews on their expertise and performance.  I love reading reviews about anyone I plan on working with, so this would be a big help.

One project we will be looking for a professional on is a screened porch that we hope to add to our home next year.  We will get estimates before we decide to move forward on any project of this magnitude and we’ll be looking on Houzz for ideas and reading reviews on contractors we are considering.  In fact, one company that is coming out to give us an estimate is on Houzz already, so it was nice to see what projects they’ve completed in my area.

Screened porches are such a nice addition and a wonderful extra room on a house and I enjoyed my last screened porch so much that we hope to have another outdoor room in our new house.  But first we’ll compare costs and get several estimates for the job to see if it’s feasible to do.

Houzz really helps you see so many ideas and inspiration all in one place, with professionals listed who did the project as well as costs and details on the finished project.  If you find an inspiration pic you love, just click on it to find out the company who did the project and lots more about the project. You can even start your own ideabook and save all the inspiration photos you find.

If you haven’t stopped by Houzz yet, I would highly recommend it (Houzz has a free app for iPhone, iPad, and Android too).  I’m on their email list and always enjoy going through their newsletter to see what’s new and inspiring on the platform.   There are stories about renovations and lots of beautiful photos of real life homes to give you so many ideas on what you can do in your own home.

That always inspires me as I’m looking to get ideas for our new house!  We’ve got several more projects to do around our new house.

What are you working on and what rooms do you need inspiration for?

I love Houzz! I have an Idea book there & save all my inspiration. It has helped me a lot in the past with paint colors and ideas. I was just looking there before jumping over here. I would love to paint the brick outside a neutral color but since we are selling in the next year and a half I don’t want to add to anything that a buyer might see as extra maintenance. So I just stare at my inspiration. LOL! Your porch will be great I am sure & so enjoyable.

We wanted a screened porch but it just wasn’t feasible. Our deck is in the corner ell and they all said it would be the same as adding a room to the house having to come off two roof’s. I was disappointed but accepted it. 🙁

Nita, that very well may be the case for us too. I’m definitely not willing to spend a huge amount on a screened porch, we have to look at not over improving for the house and neighborhood, so we will see how the estimates look and if it’s feasible. If not on the top deck, I’d love to add stairs to the grass and then do a screened porch below the deck. That would satisfy my need for an outdoor room too.

Houzz is a great resource. When we were renovating the exterior of our 30-year old Colonial, I found the perfect front porch design on a beautiful home outside Chicago. I even contacted the architect who provided me with sizes and dimensions. We were able to adapt that design to our house. I also found a “garden house” design and used that for inspiration for our garden shed. I add reviews of any professionals I have used in my area (Richmond, VA). You are adding wonderful design elements to your new home, Rhoda. Love your blog.

Hi, Linda, that’s great to hear. Oh, a 30 year old Colonial sounds so stately. Thank you for reading, we’re having fun with this house too!

Hi Rhoda, Through the Houzz “Find a Pro” service, I found an interior decorator here in Rome, GA who has helped me find space to expand my master bath and renovate my hall bath and kitchen. She has such great ideas and I am very pleased with her level of professionalism. I’m very pleased with her!
