Home Grown Veggies

It’s the first ‘mater sandwich of the summer of 2008…..need I say more??

First tomatoes from my parent’s garden, ours aren’t in yet. It was fabulously good. The END.
When I was home last weekend, my mom packed up my car with fresh veggies from their garden. They have always had a garden as long as I can remember and there is just nothin’ like home grown veggies. So I came home and fried up some okra last week. For those of you in other regions, you probably don’t fry okra, but I’m tellin’ you, it’s the best. This is the only way I’ll eat okra, well except for a little in vegetable soup.
They also grow potatoes and these are perfect for mashing.
Sauteed squash and onion….yummmmmm!
With a pork chop on the side…that’s some good eatin’!! Don’t you just love this time of year with all the fresh veggies and fruit? We sure do….hope you’re all enjoying the holiday weekend with some great food of your own.

    Hi Rhoda

We’re home from the lake today. Going back tomorrow. Hoping to find some “real” tomatoes! We have a couple of Arkansas tomatoes we picked up at the super market that are pretty good, though. We found a market at the lake that sells from the Mennonites. Maybe we’ll find some “maters” there. Your sandwich looks yummy, as do all those other wonderful homegrown veggies!

    Have a great week!

Your vegies look wonderful. I’ve never tried to grow a garden of veggies before but maybe I’ll try someday. Our family biz is a fruit and veggie biz. Have a wonderufl week.

Wow – this looks yummy! I want some. All our garden is producing is prickly Chinese cabbage and tiny but overgrown carrots.

There’s nothing better than a ‘mater sandwich. Our tomatoes are late coming in this year. I can’t wait for fresh ones from my very own garden.

This is another reason I miss my parents. They use to have a garden every year. Tomatoes, green beans, onion, squash etc.. all fresh and better tasting. How lucky you are.

Girl you are speakin’ my language! I may live in the midwest, but this girl’s got a 100% southern mother. I grew up on mater sandwiches. I eat one about every day for lunch.

And it doesn’t gett much better than fried okra!

Yes, that’s my stomach you hear growling, and it’s only eight in the mornin’!
