How to decorate a store bought cake, embellishing it and personalizing it inexpensively. Have you done that before? Decorated cakes can be so expensive and I took a cue from Lauren on how to decorate a store bought cake and make it as cute as can be. Let’s look at what she did! I was so impressed with Iris’s birthday cake when I saw what she did that I wanted to share with all of you. I think you’ll love it too!

Here’s the birthday cake picked up from a local grocery store with Happy Birthday Iris on top.

She bought a few of these cake decorations that are edible along with some cute garden theme items from a store like Michaels. She was doing a fairy garden theme so bought a few thing to try out.

Not the best pictures but you get the idea. Stores like Michaels and Hobby Lobby should have plenty of these type small items.

And here’s how it turned out. I love the tall birdhouse, the teapot, little house, pond, gnome, fairies, and those cute icing flowers. The trees were the finishing touch. With candles and the 5 candle it was so cute!

Iris was so cute when we sung Happy Birthday to her and her little friends were watching as she blew out those 5 candles! Happy Birthday Iris!

Isn’t it the cutest woodland fairy cake? I loved how it turned out and she can reuse these pieces for other cakes down the road.

Hope you enjoyed this little tip on decorating a plain store bought cake inexpensively using a few items from the local craft stores. Please pin for later!

I didn’t have a fashion post today, so I’ll try to get back to it next week.

This turned out so cute! What a great idea. My sister is doing something similar for my niece who is getting married for the um, 3rd time. (Gasp!) HaHa! Anyway, she ordered a cake with Best Wishes to the Bride and Groom and is going to embellish it with edible seashells and flowers. I can’t wait to see how it turns out.

I love the cake and love the idea too! She can play with the little fairy garden in her own yard too. My granddaughters have some of the fairy garden pieces they play with up under a tree.

Such a cute idea! The party looked like a lot of fun for the kids and adults, I’m sure you all enjoyed it. Will you show us pictures of Lauren’s home once the painting is finished? I’d love to see it. I’m also looking forward to seeing your sister’s building process.

Big Lots also has miniatures at some fantastic prices and when the sales hit are even better.

I’ve kept quiet about this long enough. You need to hirean editor. Typos, grammatical errors and just plain terrible writing!

Lynne, here you are again just stirring up trouble. Since some have already commented to you, I’ll leave your comment up. And look, you made spelling errors yourself. How about that! I don’t even know why you read my blog, you are the most disgruntled person I think I’ve ever come across.

You should keep quiet, a little longer! If you don’t have anything nice to say…..

And I’m sorry some people have to be so politically correct and even make a mistake in their message.

That cake is precious! Brought back fond memories of my children’s birthday parties. Money was tight and I did the same thing! If a was hosting a small party, I used the frozen Pepperidge Farm cakes….. put it on a beautiful cake stand and voila! I decorated the cakes and table with new toys of what ever theme which double as their gift too!

So glad you spoke up for yourself concerning that comment. It was not necessary. I have been reading your blog for years for inspiration and enjoyment. You have been so sweet to welcome your readers into your home as well as you your family! Goodness some people just have to point out that speck in your eye….

This has been one of my favorite tricks as a mom over the years! My boys always wanted something unique that wasn’t easily accessible or fit into the party budget 😉 We have used graham cracker haunted houses and figurines for Scooby-Doo cakes, disassembled tiki lights for Hawaiian luau cakes, and we may have even decked a few with nerf bullets! Definitely the best way to get a custom cake that really fits the personality of the recipient! Thanks for sharing!
