I’ve checked your blog daily for a long, long time, but will now be removing from my list. I loved your home decor/reno type posts, but am tired of the fashion and, even more so, these constant commercials. I understand you are making a living at this, but you’ve forsaken what made you wonderful and popular. I’ll move on to others who stay true to what we all came to know and love them for. Best to you. It’s just not for me anymore.
Rhoda says
Thanks, Gwen for sharing what you feel. But, I do think I have stayed true to who I am, even though yes, I do have to make a living. I try to only do one sponsored post a week, which means I do 4 that are not. Some weeks I don’t do any. It’s hard to put yourself out there and not get judged for every little thing you do, but that’s part of the territory. I can’t redecorate my house every week, but do still share all the things I’m doing around here, as well as sharing some of my friends projects. It boils down to….I can’t please everyone all the time.

Awesome! Thank for sharing. I actually ordered a fishing shirt for a summer coverup!

Thank you Rhoda! This is awesome!!

I have to agree with Gwen- your posts are changing and it is obvious you are running out of house and home things to blog about that are going to keep up the numbers you need to see to make this venture profitable for you to continue. While that is understandable I suppose if it is your bread and butter, it leaves me missing the old days when even if a post wasn’t spectacular, it was nice to check in and see what you were up too. Remember when you did this for fun and the numbers didn’t matter? There was no doubt about whether you liked an item you posted about, because it was something you spent your hard earned money on. Now it is obvious you are getting items gratis or with a bonus kickback from the sponsor. I have to question whether you really like something or whether it helps your bottom line to talk about a particular item. Before it was like a friend making a suggestion; lately it is more of an advertisement and I have decided I will go back to making my own decisions about what I spend my hard earned money on. It was nice while it lasted.

Ouch, Joanne. Even if I try to craft a response to this post, it will just sound like I’m defending myself. So, I’m not even going to get into it all. I think most of my readers know that what I put out there is something that I either have tried and like myself (whether I got it free or got paid or not) or it’s a website/product I think my readers would enjoy. Everyone will have to make their own choice on continuing to read or not. I certainly can’t beg people to read my blog.

Rhoda, please don’t be discouraged when someone disconnects, since it is impossible to please everyone. Since this is how you make your living & with the increasing competition within the blog world, you have to do what you have to do in order to attract the sponsors you need to survive. I follow several bloggers, & when someone blogs about something I am not interested in, I simply only concentrate on the ones I do find helpful. I personally was glad to get the name of a new site where I can find more fashion & home decor. This was a new one for me. Thanks. Also, I especially like the ones you show of the different sites, gardens, etc. that you have visited. I can add them to my ‘must see’ list on my way to Fl.
Rhoda says
Thank you, Linda, it’s readers like you that keep me going!

Hi Rhoda – I have been especially enjoying your fashion posts, so I hope you keep doing those. You have impeccable taste, and it’s so nice to have style inspiration aimed at baby boomers who aren’t ready to look old yet don’t want to look like we still think we’re 18. As far as the ads and product posts, well, that’s just part of making a living! I have never once doubted that you still give us your honest opinion. Thanks so much for sharing!
Jeri says
Keep up the good work Rhoda! I look forward to hearing all you have to say and if there is something I am not interested in I move on. You are a very talented lady.

I have to agree with Gwen and Joanne, but I wish you the best! The blog is so different now!

I love your blog b/c it’t not just decor! Actually your southern attitude is part of the reason I am moving south & your polite responses prove your upbringing ; ) I’m ordering 5 items from this site, trying to be cute in my 40’s, like u, lol! I learn alot from you, keep up the good work. Noelle Prov 15:1

Cute things, and super good prices on bedding. Thanks for the share.

I love your blog, especially since I’m 54 and there are so many bloggers out there much younger and I can’t always relate to their tastes/trends. Sometimes, sometimes not. To be honest, I’m not a huge fan of sponsored posts on anybody’s blogs, but yet I totally get it and don’t hold it against anybody. Keep being you, as many of us totally appreciate it! Have a blessed weekend!
Rhoda says
Thank you, Lisa, I appreciate that!

Rhoda, I love the evolution of your blog and very much look forward to reading. I like the ‘lifestyle’ aspect…keeps it on a very personal level…you are sharing what you know and do. I have to agree with the sentiment about not being able to please everyone every time. Stay true to who you are, for that is what appeals to me and I’m sure many other readers. I especially love your fashion posts! Looking forward to reading Southern Hospitality for a long time 🙂

I was catching up on your blog this morning and saw the negative posts. I am still enjoying your blog very much and feel a connection with you because you are in your 50’s (as am I) and have great ideas! The suggestions you give are great and I enjoy checking out the other sites you mention. I don’t expect to like everything, but you always give me ideas of ways to decorate, landscaping, places to check out, & fashion. Luv your style! I enjoy your more personal posts about your family too.
Take care and keep writing!
